Drusilla didn't want to start an argument, so she just nodded in agreement, knowing well she needed his favor.
After leaving the room, she called her friend Verena. "I've got something up this noon and won't make it back home."
Verena inquired, “Oh, what’s up? Is it your dad? Heard he’s been pretty under the weather. How is he holding up?”
“He’s managing.” Drusilla replied, “It’s something else. How are Colton and Cormac doing? Can they come to the phone?”
“They're doing great,” Verena said. “But no phone for now, they’re in the middle of a live stream! Don’t be holding them up from their big moment.”
Drusilla was speechless. “So, wanting to hear my kids' voices is now a distraction?”
“If you want to see your darlings, just hop into their live stream. They’re internet celebrities now, unlike you!” Verena teased, her sarcasm cutting as always.
Sometimes Drusilla wondered if Verena was born just to make snarky comments about her life.
“Alright then, guess you guys can handle lunch on your own. Maybe order some pizza.” she suggested, knowing well Verena wouldn't be cooking at all.
Without Drusilla around, takeout was the only option.
Her kids weren't big fans of takeout, barely nibbling at it, and they always preferred what Drusilla cooked. That was partly why she wanted to be there for lunch.
“Got it, we’re not toddlers, you know. Do your thing, I’m off to play some video games.” Verena quickly ended the call.
Drusilla looked at her phone and signed. She had been worried they’d have nothing to eat without her, but now it seemed like she was the one being excessive.
