"Helping those in need is a virtue that runs deep in our culture," Drusilla said calmly.
"I don't need help!" Enoch retorted. "Mind your own business."
"Fine," Drusilla replied. "I'll help you out of your pants, and you can put them back on yourself."
As she moved to assist him, Enoch's irritation flared.
He gripped her wrist tightly. "Woman, are you trying to make me angry on purpose?"
He believed she was trying to humiliate him as payback for a previous offense.
Hearing his accusation, Drusilla said, "I thought you were just physically challenged, Mr. Taylor, but it seems your judgment is impaired as well."
"You're the first woman who's dared to speak to me like that! Do you think I can't live without you? Do you believe that with just one word from me, the Lawson family would be bankrupt, with no chance of recovery?" Enoch's tone was icy.
Drusilla, although not previously acquainted with the Taylor family, knew of their significant influence in Creston City.
Enoch's threats were not empty; he had the power to ruin her family.
"I merely spoke the truth, Mr. Taylor. It seems you're not willing to listen. I offered to help because I saw a need. You didn’t thank me, fine. But now you’re angry? Do you think that's reasonable?" Drusilla challenged.
