“Until we sign those divorce papers, you're still my wife,” Enoch declared. “Dr. Lawson, I hope you are aware of your duties. I didn’t marry you to be just a pretty face around the house.”
Drusilla looked at Enoch, unsure why, but his words made her reconsider her stance.
She was supposed to be just a bargaining chip, right? When did she sign up to be a servant?
Yet, she found herself fetching him a glass of water.
It wasn’t that she was scared of him; she just couldn’t stand another minute of his nagging over something as trivial as a glass of water.
She placed the glass on the table in front of him, saying, “You know, I prefer not to listen to endless chatter before I start my acupuncture session. It messes with my focus. If I get distracted, I might mess up your treatment.”
“Are you threatening me?” Enoch looked at her, incredulously.
She had the audacity to use that as a threat!
He was on the verge of exploding!
“Exactly, Mr. Taylor. Glad to see you’re not completely clueless,” Drusilla retorted, a smirk playing on her lips. She enjoyed this little verbal spar more than she expected.
With that, she turned around to continue her sterilization process.
Enoch watched her busy herself, a stark contrast to her previous tears. It was baffling how her words could be so infuriating yet so captivating.
Unlike Odette, who always tiptoed around him, eager to please and terrified to offend, Drusilla was a breath of fresh air.
Odette was like a shadow, constantly guessing his likes and dislikes, without a thought of her own. Drusilla, on the other hand, was different. Polite where it mattered, but never overly eager to please.
Ironically, she was the one his grandfather had originally chosen for him.
If it weren’t for her past divorce, she might have been the perfect wife.
But the idea of marrying a woman who had already been married was something he just couldn’t get past.
