Indeed, when Hestia heard about Drusilla and Enoch getting married, her voice brimmed with joy. "Though Enoch's got a bum leg, the Taylor family’s a solid bunch. Y'all make sure to live well. I'll give your dad a heads up."
With that, Hestia hung up.
Staring at her phone, Drusilla pondered, with the news of her marriage to Enoch out, surely Odette would come back!
Odette was a total mama's girl, spoiled rotten by her mom. She’s grown yet couldn’t spend a day without her mom fussin' over her.
Hiding away because of Enoch’s situation must’ve been hard on her.
It was the thought of possibly getting Odette back by marrying Enoch that made Drusilla agree to it.
...
Stepping off the car, Drusilla popped into the local grocery store for a few bits before heading home.
Verena had already left, living a subway ride away, needing to catch the early train for work the next day.
Now, it was just the two little rascals at home.
Entering the house, Drusilla was met with a sight; Colton and Cormac were in the thick of chores, one washing dishes and the other cooking spaghetti.
The stove was a tad high for them, both standing on stools to reach.
Seeing this, a wave of sadness hit Drusilla. She quickly scooped Colton from his stool. “Hey, buddy, I said no messing with this stuff. It’s not safe. What if you burn yourself?”
Colton wriggled in her arms, “Mom, let me go! I’m almost done with the spaghetti. Stop messing it up, will ya?”
Drusilla was flabbergasted. “I’m worried you’ll burn yourself, and I’m the one messing it up?”
“I won’t burn myself,” Colton asserted. “Making spaghetti is easy-peasy, I got this.”
“Colton, how old are you?”
Talking like he’s been around the block.
Colton puffed out his chest, “Four.”
Not a toddler anymore!
