Saskia watched Enoch seated in the car with a puzzled look, noting that he seemed to be around Harlan's age. Yet, Harlan was about to call him "Uncle!"
Lilith also called out, “Uncle Enoch.”
Enoch glanced at Harlan’s mother, fully aware of how Saskia had been blatantly overstepping her bounds in front of Drusilla.
He addressed Harlan, “Seems like you weren’t too pleased with how I handled things last night. Smart of you to have your mother confront Drusilla on your behalf, huh?”
Harlan’s face darkened as he hurried to clarify, “No, no, Uncle Enoch, you’ve got it all wrong. I had no idea my mother was coming here.”
Enoch retorted, “You had no idea? I don’t buy it.”
Harlan insisted, “It really had nothing to do with me.”
If Enoch were to pin the blame on him, he’d have no way to defend himself!
Enoch remained silent, his distrustful gaze fixed on Harlan.
That silence, that stare, made Harlan even more anxious.
Harlan subtly wiped away sweat from his brow, glanced at Lilith, and pleaded, “Lilith, could you please explain to Uncle Enoch? We truly had no clue about this.”
Lilith joined in, “Uncle Enoch, Harlan really didn’t know. We only found out just now and rushed over here.”
Saskia stood by, observing her son and daughter-in-law tread carefully around the issue, as if she had landed them in hot water.
Enoch’s intimidating presence made her hesitant to speak up.
Enoch finally said to Harlan, “Take your mother home. Come over to my place tonight, and we’ll discuss this properly.”
Harlan, resigned to his fate, nodded in agreement. “Okay.”
