He wanted to leave, yet he couldn't muster the courage to do so, leaving him no choice but to wait in silence.
Drusilla made her way over and glanced at Harlan before knocking on the study's door.
Oberon answered, greeting Drusilla with a respectful nod. "Madam."
"Is Enoch free now?" Drusilla asked.
"Please, come in," Oberon responded.
After Drusilla was led in, Harlan finally spoke up, "Oberon."
Oberon looked at Harlan as if just remembering he was there and said, "Mr. Taylor is tied up at the moment. I'm afraid you will have to wait a bit longer, Mr. Stanton."
With that, Oberon closed the door.
Harlan was left wondering when he had ever been subjected to such treatment. His legs were starting to go numb from standing so long! He hadn't even been made to stand as a punishment at school, and here he was, enduring this indignity. The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he felt.
...
Upon entering the study, Drusilla found Enoch sitting there, leisurely reading a book. She couldn't shake the feeling that he appeared rather relaxed for someone supposedly busy.
"Aren't you supposed to be busy?" she asked.
"I've finished," Enoch replied.
"Oh." Drusilla said. "And yet you have Harlan waiting outside?"
Enoch raised an eyebrow, "What did you think I had him come over for? To offer him tea?"
Drusilla stared at him and said, "He hasn't done anything to you. Is there a need to treat him this way?"
"Feeling sorry for him?" Enoch gave her a sardonic look.
