Lilith was in the middle of a lively chat with Blythe when Harlan walked in. She greeted him with a warm smile, "Where did you wander off to this time?"
Harlan took a seat beside her, his voice gentle, "Just needed some fresh air."
Lilith chuckled before turning back to Blythe. "How's Uncle Enoch doing these days? Is he considering trying out that new-fangled acupuncture?"
Blythe replied with a sigh, "His leg's beyond hope, but the doctor suggested we might as well give acupuncture a shot. Nothing to lose, right?"
Mention of Enoch's leg always brought a cloud over Blythe.
Lilith squeezed her hand reassuringly, "Grandma, don't worry. Uncle's gonna pull through. Should I go up and say hi?"
Lilith had always been the apple of the family's eye, especially doted on by Enoch ever since she was little. But in recent years, since his leg started giving him trouble, he'd become more withdrawn, even missing Lilith's wedding.
Today, she was keen on introducing Harlan to Enoch.
"Sure, go ahead," Blythe nodded.
Lilith stood up, with Harlan accompanying her upstairs, straight to Enoch's room.
Drusilla was prepping for the acupuncture session. The mention of Harlan stirred a storm inside her, but she tried to remain calm. She couldn't let that scoundrel distract her from her work.
As she steadied her nerves, there was a knock on the door.
Oberon opened it. "Miss Lilith."
Lilith and Harlan stood at the doorway.
Stepping inside, Lilith immediately noticed Drusilla. "Oh, you're here too!"
Oberon glanced at Drusilla then back to Lilith. "You two know each other?"
