Chapter 655
Josephine was speechless. Her fists were clenched so tightly her nails were digging into her palms.
She hated it. Intensely.
Aveline threw that water on her mom on purpose. She was afraid the judge would rule against her, so she had Xavier pressure the law firm.
Seeing Josephine’s furious expression, Gerald’s heart ached. He said helplessly, “Josie, it’s not that I don’t want to stay on this case. But if I do, the firm will definitely try to sabotage me at every turn. I’m afraid it will end up hurting your mom’s case.”
Josephine nodded. “I understand you’re in a tough spot, Gerald. It’s fine. Just find me another lawyer.”
When Josephine got home, she told Courtney what happened. Courtney got so angry she smashed her cup.
“Xavier, Aveline, if that person ever knocks you down into the dirt, I’ll be sure to give you a few kicks myself just to get my satisfaction.”
A look of pure hatred also appeared on Josephine’s face.
Courtney finally managed to calm down. She sat down and said, “It doesn’t matter. We don’t need Gerald to find us a lawyer. I can get someone else to recommend a better one.”
Josephine’s expression turned serious. “Mom, are you going to ask ‘that person‘ to find you a lawyer?”
Courtney nodded. “He’s no ordinary person. He’s having your cousin sue the and Aveline for accusing him of stealing a design. He said he’d get your cousin a good lawyer. I’ll just have that lawyer handle my case as well.”
The next day, Xavier got up early for a run. When he got to the yard, he thought that once Aveline’s foot healed, she’d probably go for an early morning run by the sea too, so he drove out.
He got to the beach near Garden Estate, parked his car, and started running on the sidewalk.
There were already quite a few people, young and old, out exercising on the path. He looked around for that familiar figure, but couldn’t find her.
He had no choice but to jog slowly, thinking maybe Aveline hadn’t arrived yet and would come
later.
He didn’t text her to ask, in case she found out he was here and decided not to come.
As he was running, he heard a familiar voice from behind him, “Mr. Beltran, good morning.”
Xavier recognized Sebastian’s voice. Sure enough, Sebastian ran up from behind him and started jogging alongside him.
Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. “Morning, Mr. Harmon. When did you get here from Kralville?”
Sebastian replied, “Last night.”
“Mr. Beltran, what are you doing running all the way out here?”
Xavier answered, “I stayed at my wife’s maternal grandparents‘ house last night.”
Sebastian chuckled and said, “I just texted Aveline to ask if she wanted to come out for a run. She said she wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be coming.”
Xavier remained silent, his expression indifferent.
He understood Sebastian’s words had a double meaning. One was to doubt he was telling the truth, and the other was to show how close he was with Aveline.
But Xavier couldn’t just stay silent, so he said, “Sebastian, Aveline is a married woman. Stay away from her.”
Sebastian laughed again. “I didn’t realize you were so old–fashioned, Mr. Beltran. Can’t a woman have male friends after she’s married?”
Xavier scoffed. “Sebastian, do I really need to spell out what you’re thinking?”
“Xavier, what do you think I’m thinking?”
Xavier fell silent. As long as he didn’t divorce Aveline, Sebastian could just keep dreaming.
