Chapter 109 He Was Serious?
This was becoming a pattern. How many times had Lucien called him dead in the night?
“Got a question. Why don’t women text back?” Lucien asked.Landon’s sleepiness cleared up a bit.
“What the hell?”
“I said, why don’t women reply to messages?” Lucien repeated.
Landon chuckled.
Great, Prince Charming’s got his heart broken again.
“Well, generally speaking, when women don’t text back, it’s usually because they find the guy annoying. You get it, right?”
Landon couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, is someone not texting you back?”
The line went dead with a beep.
Damn! This guy wouldn’t even give me a chance to mess with him.
Meanwhile, Zane saw Alden’s missed calls as soon as he got off the plane. “Alden, you were looking for me?”
Alden rubbed his forehead. “Never mind, Dad.”
After getting slapped earlier, he’d completely lost interest in the whole trending topic drama. His assistant had already texted him that the hashtag was dying down anyway.
“You sure everything’s okay?” Zane asked suspiciously.
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
Zane wasn’t buying it. Twenty–something missed calls couldn’t mean everything was fine.
A few minutes later, his assistant handed him his phone. “Mr. Zane Graves, it’s about Ms. Thorne. She’s been accused of plagiarism. It was trending for five hours. Maybe that’s why Mr. Alden Graves was calling you?”
The wedding was coming up, but nobody was giving him any
peace.
Zane called Luna directly.
“Dad, it’s so late. Did something happen?” Luna yawned.
Zane let out a heavy grunt. “You’re asking me if something happened? Don’t you already know?
“Luna, I’ve always treated you like my own daughter. Not just me–your brother and your mother too. We don’t expect

anything in return for how good we’ve been to you, but don’t you think it’s better to avoid things that damage the Graves family’s reputation?”
Luna’s heart clenched. “Dad, did you see the trending topic?”
“It’s been five hours. How could I not see it?”
Luna could hear the anger in Zane’s voice. “Dad, someone set me up. I really didn’t plagiarize.”
“That’s not the point. Luna, you’re about to marry Alden, and after that, you still want people to gossip about you every single day?”
Luna bit her lip, dug her nails into her palms. “Dad, someone’s trying to hurt me. I don’t know why Kaia is targeting me like this.”
She just found out Jimmy hit up Kaia and figured she was getting back at her. She was about to run to Alden when Zane’s call came through.
“You’re saying Kaia got someone to frame you?” Zane’s voice was low.
“Yeah. But why is she treating me like this? She and Alden used to get along so well.” Luna put on her innocent act.
“Alright, I get it. But you better think about what I said today.

After you get married, family should come first. Stay away from the entertainment industry!”
After hanging up, Zane frowned and checked the time. “Alden’s company works with Vanguard Law Firm, right? Tomorrow, go ask Vanguard if this is how they treat major clients.”
His assistant nodded. “Yes, Mr. Zane Graves.”
Looks like Ms. Domont is in for some trouble.

The next day, Kaia still didn’t know what to say to Lucien when Kayla called.
“Kaia, did I wake you up?”
Kaia had barely slept all night. She’d been in and out of dreams for hours, but couldn’t remember what any of them were about when she woke up.
“No, I’m awake. What’s going on, Kayla?” Kaia asked.
“I thought you usually slept in on weekends.” Kayla let out a soft laugh, then got serious. “Kaia, there’s something I didn’t tell you. After we split up that day, Calvin came to pick me up, right? I told him about the Jimmy case because I wanted to see if he had any ideas. But then he went and called your boyfriend.”
“My boyfriend?” Kaia raised an eyebrow.
Kayla sounded apologetic. “Sorry, I didn’t know he’d call. Mr. Graves found out about everything, and I saw yesterday’s trending topic. That whole Luna thing was probably Mr. Graves‘ doing, right?”
Kaia’s heart skipped a beat.
So he’s the one behind this. He did it to help me?
She bit her lip and asked, “Does Lucien know Jimmy too?”
Kayla paused, then laughed. “Oh, honey, what are you thinking? If he knew Mr. Graves, he wouldn’t have come to me, right? Mr. Graves is definitely standing up for you.”
Kaia’s mind went completely blank.
He helped her out way too many times. And those kinda intimate messages last night made her realize she needed to figure out what was really up with her and Lucien.
If this were just mutual benefit, Kaia could use his help without feeling bad. But what if he was serious about her?
Kaia couldn’t fall in love with him that quickly. What could she possibly give him back if he actually liked her? Her mind raced through all these thoughts for a while.

“Kaia, can you hear me?” Kayla asked.
Kaia snapped back to reality. “Oh, Kayla, I get it. I just remembered I have something to do. I’ll talk to you later, okay?”
Kayla stared at the phone after the call ended abruptly. She wondered if she’d done something wrong again.
Meanwhile, Kaia pressed her hand against her chest and took a deep breath. She stepped onto the balcony, breathed in the fresh air, and dialed Lucien’s number.
