Chapter 110 Suspension Notice

He picked up after just two rings.

“Hello.” His voice came through low and rough.

“Hey, Lucien. I just woke up. I was asleep last night and just saw the texts.” Kaia felt guilty as she explained.

“Alright. I figured you were sleeping,” Lucien said flatly.

“Mm… Lucien, you—”

Kaia had barely started to speak when Lucien cut her off. “Kaia, I didn’t sign up for a platonic marriage. When we’re married, we’ll be sleeping in the same bed.

“I know I’m doing this to deal with my father, and you’re doing it for your own reasons, but I’m not sleeping in separate rooms. You get that, right?”

Kaia fell silent for a moment before replying, “I get it.”

As she said it, Kaia felt a wave of relief wash over her. So he was only marrying her to handle Allen. Obviously, she’d been reading too much into things just now.

The question that had almost slipped out-“Do you like me?“— she swallowed back down. Thank god she hadn’t said it. That would’ve been embarrassing.

“Good. So do you want to come test out the bed next week?” Lucien asked.

“No thanks. You can handle that yourself.” She couldn’t bring herself to say “test the bed” out loud.

“Alright then.” Something in Lucien’s voice sounded

disappointed. “Well, I’m hanging up now.”

“Wait, Lucien.” Kaia almost forgot why she’d called. “Grandma’s mourning period ends next Saturday. When can we get the marriage license?”

Lucien’s frown finally turned into a smile. “I’m not sure yet. I need to check my schedule with my assistant first.”

“Okay, let me know when you find out. And Lucien—thanks for handling that trending topic mess.”

So she knows about it?

Lucien’s smile deepened, carrying a warmth she couldn’t see through the phone. “No problem. Isn’t that what husbands are supposed to do? I promised to back you up. Can’t let you lose now.”

Kaia smiled softly, “Thank you. See you next week.”

“Mr. Miller, I know Mr. Halston really values his team, but no matter how much he thinks of Kaia, he can’t let her get away with this.”

Miles turned his laptop toward Alex. “Look, this is Alfly Entertainment’s new talent they’re promoting. And Jimmy, the guy accusing her of plagiarism, contacted Ms. Domont here at our firm.”

Alex’s brows furrowed. “You’re saying Kaia took on Jimmy’s case against Alfly Entertainment under her own name?”

Miles scoffed. “Mr. Miller, it’s worse than that. She referred Jimmy to Catalyst Law Firm. She sent a client to our

competition to cause trouble for one of our biggest clients! Can we really let that slide?

“Here’s the thing, Mr. Miller. Mr. Zane Graves‘ assistant tipped me off about this. Ms. Domont clearly messed with the son, and the father comes looking for answers.”

Vanguard Law Firm wasn’t just Alfly Entertainment’s legal counsel. They also handled merger cases for Graves Group.

There was no way they could take Grave Group’s money and then work against them. That was a cardinal sin in this business.

Alex looked deep in thought, his expression gloomy. “Mr. Zane Graves‘ assistant called you over something this small?”

“You don’t believe me? I can show you our chat log.” Miles patted his chest.

“Mr. Miller, this wasn’t a big deal originally, but we got unlucky. The new talent that Alfly Entertainment is pushing happens to be Mr. Alden Graves‘ fiancée, and they’re getting married next month!”

Alex took the phone and sighed internally. No wonder.

His two right–hand men had never gotten along, and now, Jude’s people had been caught red–handed. He had to be fair about this.

Alex nodded. “I understand the situation. I’ll make sure Alfly Entertainment and Graves Group get a proper explanation.”

Miles left satisfied. When Ophelia saw him coming out of the office, she stepped forward and asked quietly, “What did Mr. Miller say?”

Miles smiled confidently, “It’s handled.”

“Will they punish Jude?” Ophelia raised an eyebrow.

Miles shook his head. “Probably not. At most, they’ll discipline

that Kaia.”

This might not be enough to bring down Jude completely, but at least they managed to get his most trusted lawyer in serious trouble. That was still a pretty good win.

They’d secured the headquarters merger contract, which should have made Kaia a shoo–in for the next non–equity partner position. But after this mess, all bets were off.

She’d basically taken a winning hand and completely blown it.

Ophelia followed Miles back to his office, and the moment the door closed, she pressed up against him. “Miles, so what do you think? Can I get the non–equity partner spot next time?”

Miles‘ eyes flickered. “Focus on getting your mid–level certification next month first. I’ll figure out the non–equity partner thing.”
