Tobias‘ face darkened. “Absolutely not. Kaia, 30% is too much! That would give you more shares than I have!”
Kaia let out a cold laugh. “Oh, I see. Well then, I’ll just tell Lucien the wedding’s off!”
“Wait!” Panic and anger surge through Tobias.
Now that he knew Kaia was actually dating Lucien, he seriously worried that Kaia might just dump him again with how she always acted without thinking.
After all, she’d already rejected the Graves family once before!
Tobias had no idea how she’d managed to hook up with Lucien, but he couldn’t let her mess this up.
“Kaia, don’t scare me like that. 20% is already my limit. If you don’t marry him, plenty of other women would kill for the chance! You think Lucien is like Alden, someone you can just push around?” Tobias said through gritted teeth.
Kaia’s eyes flashed with cold amusement. “Oh really? Want to test that theory?”
She steeled herself and dialed Lucien’s number. “Hey, Lucien.”
“Hey, Kaia. What’s up?”

Tobias‘ throat tightened when he heard Lucien’s voice.
“Lucien, about getting our marriage license tomorrow–maybe we should call it-”
Before she could finish saying “off“, Tobias snatched the phone away and hung up.
“Kaia, are you insane? Do you know who he is? You’re actually going to mess with Lucien?” he snapped.
Tobias felt a chill of fear. If he hadn’t acted fast just now, his crazy daughter would have thrown away the marriage deal of a lifetime. And he would’ve regretted it forever.
“Well, I’ve shown you. I’m not afraid of anything.” Kaia knew she had to go all in to get what she wanted.
Tobias‘ face went through several shades of red and white as he ran the numbers in his head.
“Fine, 25% max. Kaia, no more arguing about this. That’ll leave me with only 34%.”
34% would still make him the largest shareholder. And since Kaia was his daughter, the other shareholders wouldn’t see the transfer as a threat.
Actually, Kaia was expecting 25%.

“Deal,” Kaia smiled. “We’re doing this today. Dad, I’m getting the marriage license with him after the paperwork’s done.”
Then, Kaia walked out without looking back.
Tobias realized Kaia was exactly like him after all–just as cold–blooded, ruthless, and driven by profit.
He sat on the couch thinking for a long time, then sent Kaia a text: [I’ll start the share transfer process this afternoon. We need a shareholders‘ meeting. The earliest we can finish is the day after tomorrow. That work for you?]
Kaia: [Works for me.]
She smirked when she saw the message.
See? You had to be ruthless to get what you wanted.
She sent Lucien another text: [It’s nothing. I just wanted to know when to meet at City Hall tomorrow.]
Lucien stared at his phone, deep in thought, his fingers tapping the screen. [Eight–thirty. We’ll go as soon as they open. We’ll be the first couple to get our marriage license.]

Kaia wore a simple white blouse and put on light makeup today She arrived at City Hall right on time.
Lucien was already there, also wearing a white shirt, one hand casually tucked in his pocket. She had no idea how long he’d been waiting.
He walked over to her, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “You’re here.”
In his pocket, his hand was trembling slightly.
Kaia smiled back, “Let’s go
inside.”
They filled out forms and took photos. When Kaia held the marriage license, it still didn’t feel real.
I’m actually married now. It seemed a bit rushed.
Lucien stood by the window and pulled out his phone to take a picture. Then, he slipped the marriage license into his pocket and approached Kaia with calm, measured steps. “Come on. Let’s go to the oath platform.”
Kaia hadn’t researched the process and didn’t realize this part wasn’t required.
Lucien grabbed her wrist and led her to the platform. He switched his phone to video and smiled nicely at the staff

member. “Mind filming this for us?”
He pulled out a fat wad of cash from his wallet and handed it over politely.
The staff member looked stunned. “Oh no, you don’t need to do that. You’re being way too generous.”
“It’s just a little thank you,” Lucien smiled.
The staff member quickly nodded. “Absolutely, I’ll make sure to get some great shots for you two!”
10 thousand dollars was more than generous–he’d definitely
take it!
Kaia watched in amazement as Lucien walked confidently to the platform and picked up a copy of the vows. “Let’s read these together.”
Kaia hesitated for a moment. “Okay.” She reached for the other copy sitting on the platform.
Lucien lowered his eyes and smirked, “You don’t need to hold one. Just repeat after me. I’ll say a line, then you say it. Sound good?”
Kaia nodded mechanically. “Okay.” Her mind was honestly starting to feel a bit numb.

Today, Lucien’s usually cool voice had become incredibly gentle. “We voluntarily take each other as husband and wife.”
Kaia’s throat tightened as she echoed him, “We voluntarily take each other as husband and wife.”
“From this day forward, through good times and bad, whether rich or poor, in sickness and in health, through youth and old age…”
Kaia looked up and met his bright eyes. Her voice blended with his as they spoke the words together.
When they reached the final line, something flickered in Lucien’s eyes. “We promise to honor these vows today. I will always love you.”
As those words left her lips, Kaia felt her heart skip a beat.
