Chapter 116 Not Love at First Sight

Kaia had paused at that final line too. She looked up, reading something like quiet anticipation in Lucien’s deep eyes.

After a long moment of silence, her pink lips softly whispered

the words, “We promise to honor these vows today. I will always love you.”

Lucien set down his vows and leaned in to brush a gentle kiss across her lips.

“Alright, honey, time to hand out tips.”

Lucien pulled out another fat wad of cash from his jacket, shoved some in her hand, then grabbed her other hand and started giving money to everyone they walked past.

Staff members got tips. Other couples getting their marriage licenses got tips. Even the cleaning lady got a tip.

Everyone’s faces lit up with huge grins.

“Congratulations! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness!”

“You two make such a gorgeous couple–a perfect match!”

Lucien handed that person two fat stacks of cash.

When it was finally over, Kaia was still in a daze. She looked at

him all confused, “You prepared tips for this?”

Is that even part of the process?

She’d never heard anyone mention this before.

Lucien nodded seriously. “Of course. That’s what everyone does when they get married. You can ask around if you don’t believe me.”

Kaia’s mouth twitched. She didn’t know anyone who’d gotten married. What was she supposed to do, wait until Alden got his marriage license and ask him?

“Fine, if you say so.” Kaia shrugged.

Lucien took her hand and slipped a ring onto her finger, then placed his ring in her palm. “You put mine on.”

Kaia fell silent for a moment. “Okay.”

They’d agreed this was just a marriage of convenience, but now, he was making such a big deal out of it.

Kaia slowly slipped the ring onto Lucien’s finger, her palm sweating from nerves.

Lucien laced his fingers through hers, lifted their joined hands, and snapped a photo with his phone.

“Alright, let’s go home. Time to help you move, Mrs. Graves.”

By the time Kain got back from the bathroom, Lucien had already posted on Instagram. The photo showed his hand wearing the wedding ring, holding their marriage license.
