“Did you find anything?” Alden shot his assistant a cold sideways glance.

“Mr. Alden Graves, not yet. We haven’t found any evidence that Ms. Domont has a boyfriend. But there’s something else…” the assistant spoke hesitantly.

Alden frowned. “What is it?”

“Well, it seems your father found out that Ms. Domont was involved in Ms. Thorne’s infringement case. Your father sent people to Vanguard Law Firm to have a word with them. Ms. Domont has been suspended.”

“What?” Alden’s eyes widened in shock. “How could Dad be so stupid!”

That explained everything. If Kaia found out Zane was behind all this, she’d never speak to him again.

“Set up a dinner meeting with Alex,” Alden growled.

The assistant scratched his head. “I just called Vanguard Law Firm. Mr. Miller is on another business trip. He won’t be back for at least three days.”

“Then get him on the phone!” Alden snapped.

But Alex was already on a call with Julian.

“But Mr. Miller, our investment department projects have always reported directly to Mr. Lucien Graves. Mr. Zane Graves doesn’t have authority over us.”

They were all smart people, and Alex got the hint from that well–timed warning.

“Mr. Rhodes, of course everything goes through Mr. Lucien Graves. Did we do something wrong? Please let us know.”

Julian sighed, “I’ll be straight with you. This merger case doesn’t have to go to Vanguard Law Firm. Everything depends on Mr. Halston and his team. You understand what I’m saying, Mr.

Miller?”

Alex knew how to pick sides. Between Zane and the real power behind Graves Group, the choice was obvious.

That afternoon, Kaia got the call that she was being reinstated.

She’d been ready to go all out and pull some strings through Lucien, but somehow, this had worked out even easier.

“Jude, you saved me again.” Kaia felt genuinely relieved.

Jude waved her off. “I didn’t do anything. Mr. Rhodes put in a good word for us. You know what? That guy’s actually pretty decent. I heard he was singing our praises to Mr. Miller.”

Jude continued with a laugh, “Come in tomorrow. And get moving. We saved your spot on the merger project!”

Tobias looked pained as he said, “The board approved the stock transfer agreement. Just sign it.”

Kaia skimmed through the document, checked the terms, then signed her name without hesitation. “Dad, get the tax and business registrations changed ASAP. One day should be enough, right?”

Tobias‘ heart skipped a beat, “Sweetie, the tax paperwork

doesn’t move that fast. Tell me first. Did you and Lucien get your marriage license or not?”

“You transfer the stocks, and then I’ll get married. How fast things move is totally up to you!” Kaia sneered.

Tobias hadn’t expected her to be so patient.

Isn’t she worried about losing Lucien?

“Fine! By the day after tomorrow at the latest. Wait for my call, and the second the stock transfer is done, I need to see that

marriage license.”

Alden’s eyes narrowed. “Who’s helping her?”

This was perfect. He was dying to find out who exactly was backing Kaia.
