Chapter 125 My Word Is the Evidence

They are about to go at it.

Most of them were not particularly worried-just eager to watch the drama unfold.

Zane’s expression stiffened. “Mr. Graves, if you’re accusing Andy

of interfering with an investment deal, surely you have some

evidence?”

Lucien’s lips pressed into a line. His gaze turned icy. “My word is the evidence.”

Zane frowned. “Andy, are there any major changes in personnel lately?”

Andy shook his head. “No. Everything seems normal.”

And Zane was not the only one confused-Andy, too, had no idea what this meeting could be about. There were no major investments scheduled and no internal reorganization plans.

By three o’clock, all the directors were seated in the boardroom.

Lucien opened with a brief overview of a few ongoing merger and acquisition projects. His tone was calm, almost routine. But then his gaze shifted toward Zane-his own elder brother.

Even in front of family, Lucien maintained a strictly

business-like demeanor.

“Mr. Zane Graves,” he said coolly, “I received a report that your assistant, Andy, may have interfered in our merger negotiations with Ease Electronics. Are you aware of this?”

Zane’s heart dropped. “Lucien, who told you that? That’s slander. Andy’s been with me for ten years. He would never do something like that.”

Lucien’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. “Please refer to me as Mr. Graves. We’re in a board meeting.” His tone was razor-sharp.

The other directors straightened in their seats.

Here we go.

Julian kept his head down, not daring to look up.

Then he heard Lucien’s voice-soft, almost amused, but laced with unmistakable chill. “How thoughtful of him. Going out of his way to warn you.”

Lucien leaned back. “Alright, I understand. Go handle your work.”

Julian timidly looked up-only to see Lucien’s face completely clouded over.

Someone’s definitely going to suffer for this.

Just as Julian reached the door, Lucien’s voice called out again, calm and distant. “One more thing, Julian. My wife likes to keep things private. She doesn’t want people to know about us. You understand what I mean?”

Julian nodded so fast his head nearly bobbed off. “Of course, Mr. Graves. Don’t worry. I’ll take this to the grave-won’t breathe a word to anyone.”

He stepped out of the CEO’s office and froze.

Wait a minute. Did Mr. Graves just say “my wife”?

Is Ms. Domont actually his wife?

That afternoon, Lucien suddenly called for an emergency board

“Someone? Another one of our own?” Lucien’s voice was quiet but sharp.

Julian hesitated. After all, last time, a classmate of Luna’s had been dismissed just for meddling with Kaia-trying to “help” and causing more trouble. Ever since, no one had dared cross that line again.

But this time, the meddler was none other than Lucien’s own older brother.

Julian chose his words very carefully. “Yes, Mr. Graves. I heard from Mr. Miller that Mr. Hanson went to speak with him personally.”

He still remembered when Andy had indirectly suggested making things difficult for Kaia. That was when Julian accidentally uncovered the secret—that she was Alden’s ex-girlfriend.

Julian hesitated again. Should he tell Lucien?

“Mr. Graves, there’s something else I haven’t mentioned.”

Lucien raised one eyebrow, cool and sharp. “What is it?”

His instincts told him it would not be good.

Julian took a breath, lowering his head. “When Ms. Domont came to the company for negotiations, Mr. Hanson asked me not to give her any special treatment. Mr. Hanson told Mr. Miller that Ms. Domont had broken up with Mr. Alden Graves.” 3/6

As he stroked her snow-white fur, he murmured, “Tell me, one. Your mom’s hiding something from me. How should I punish her?”

Molly kept her head down, diligently focused on eating her food. Obviously, she had no answers to such philosophical questions.

Lucien chuckled, lips curving into a faint smile, “Alright, I’ll wait for the wedding day. I’ll deal with her then.”

The next morning, Julian was summoned to the CEO’s office bright and early.

“Mr. Graves,” Julian said as he entered. “Frank said you wanted

to see me.”

“Take a seat,” Lucien said, gesturing calmly. “It’s nothing serious. I just heard something in passing. Someone from Vanguard Law Firm was suspended a while back?”

Julian’s heart skipped a beat.

Here it comes.

He cleared his throat carefully. “Yes. I noticed someone was missing from Vanguard’s legal team, so I looked into it and found out that Ms. Domont had been suspended.

“But they didn’t give us any details. I reached out to Mr. Halston and found out someone talked to their head about her.” 2/6

Kaia froze.

He didn’t know? So it really was Julian-probably doing it for Jude’s sake.

She replied, “It’s nothing. I’ve already been reinstated. No big deal.”

She clearly did not want to talk about it any further.

As for Zane’s involvement in her suspension, she saw no point in telling Lucien. After all, Zane was his older brother, and naturally, their relationship was closer.

But Lucien was not so easily brushed off. His gaze sharpened slightly. “You didn’t answer my question.”

In response, Kaia casually picked up another piece of fish and dropped it into his plate. “Just eat. I have a court case tomorrow morning, and I need to prepare for it in the study after this.”

Lucien’s brow furrowed even deeper. He clearly noticed her evasiveness but chose not to press.

After dinner, they each headed upstairs to their own studies.

Lucien watched her walk away and stopped at the door, looking deep in thought.
