have to enjoy it with you.”

Kaia pressed her lips, trying not to let the warmth of his tone affect her.

Fine. That was fair.

As expected from him-he always said the right things with just the right tone.

Still, she wished he would be a little less forward sometimes. What happened in the kitchen was pushing it.

Back at the table, she picked up a piece of fish with her fork and placed it in her mouth. After a moment, she looked up, her tone casual but clear. “About my suspension, you asked Julian to talk to Mr. Miller on my behalf?”

Lucien’s hand paused. “Suspension? You were suspended? When did this happen?”

“There,” he said with faux solemnity, releasing her hands. “All

done.”

Kaia could not even look at him. She muttered something under her breath-something that suspiciously sounded like “shameless pervert”—then turned and fled the kitchen.

Jason happened to be walking by and blinked in confusion when he saw Kaia emerge with a visibly red face. “Mr. Graves, is Mrs. Graves okay? She looked flushed. Could she be coming down with something?”

Lucien smiled faintly. “She’s fine. Thanks. You and the housekeeper go ahead and eat.”

Jason and the housekeeper had their own private dining area, and the two tactfully left the main room to the newlyweds.

To them, the couple was clearly in the honeymoon phase. After all, they had managed to get all flirty and wrapped up in each other for a full ten minutes in the kitchen.

Upstairs, Kaia stared at her reflection in the mirror, cheeks still burning with embarrassment. She rinsed her hands, but the last thing she wanted to do now was face him at dinner.

That was when his voice came from outside the door. “Honey, come out. Dinner’s ready. Let’s eat together.”

With some reluctance, Kaia opened the door. Her ears were still pink. She gave him a sideways glance. “You go ahead.”

Lucien’s voice was soft, coaxing. “Nope. You made this Just fo4:08

“No,” Lucien replied with a smirk. “You tied a double knot.”

His tone was playful, edged with something darker. “Maybe raise your arms-I’ll just take it off for you.”

“No need,” Kaia mumbled, a little flustered. “I’ll just ask the housekeeper to help me untie it later.”

Lucien raised an eyebrow, amused. “Why bother? Is the housekeeper more capable than your own husband?”

Before she could react, his hand suddenly caught her wrists and lifted them above her head with gentle but irresistible force.

“Lucien!” Kaia gasped, startled. “What are you doing?”

Ignoring her protest, he used his other hand to hook the edge of her apron and slowly began rolling it upward. His voice, low and rich, brushed against her ear. “Don’t be nervous. It’ll be over in a

second.”

Kaia’s face turned crimson, and every nerve in her body went taut. Her gaze dropped as she watched his elegant fingers lift the hem of her apron inch by torturous inch. Her heart thudded wildly.

She hissed, “Can you hurry up already?”

Lucien let out a deep chuckle. “Alright. I’ll go faster.”

He said it, but his fingers moved just as leisurely as before. Finally, when her cheeks were flushed redder than a ripe apple, Ré Stopped teasing and pulled the apron up over her head in one

He wanted to hear what her voice sounded like when she missed

him.

Kaia realized he had misunderstood, but honestly, she did not feel like correcting him.

“Can you move? I need to wash up,” she said.

Lucien did not budge. His brow lifted, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Need a hand? Your hands are covered in oil. I could untie your apron for you.”

Before she could answer, he stepped closer. One of his broad hands gently tugged at the knot on her back, turning her body with practiced ease.

His cool fingers brushed down her spine, sending a shiver along her skin. His voice was low, rich, almost whispering into her scalp. “Do not move.”

His lips were so close, she could almost feel them against her ear. Heat rose in her cheeks.

Kaia stiffened, arms hovering awkwardly in the air, her back straight as a board. She could not see his face, but his presence surrounded her.

Suddenly, she remembered how he had looked the last time he had been drugged-how that deep hunger had flickered in his

eyes.

“Are you okay now?” she asked cautiously. 2/5

The housekeeper peeked out. “Mr. Graves, dinner’s almost ready. Mrs. Graves made it herself-just ten more minutes!”

Kaia was too focused on the food to notice the intense gaze aimed at her from the dining area.

She carefully opened the steamer, garnished the fish with scallions, and a dash of hot oil. The fragrance filled the kitchen.

“Could you help me serve it?” she asked the housekeeper.

After plating a couple more side dishes, Kaia finally finished and turned to clean up.

Lucien stood quietly behind her, still in his sleek suit—an elegant contrast to the casual warmth of the kitchen. His presence felt too composed, too polished, for this domestic

scene.

Kaia’s hands were still covered in oil. She held them up, palms out. “Oh, you’re back. Dinner’s ready. Go wash your hands and

eat.”

Instead of stepping aside, Lucien remained right where he was, blocking her path. His eyes dropped slightly, the look in them dark and unreadable. “I heard you missed me today.”

Kaia blinked. “Who told you that?”
