Lucien held her by the waist and drew her in, their faces so close that if he lowered his head even slightly, his lips would brush her delicate nose. He murmured, “I’m not done eating.”

Kaia squirmed in his arms. “Then go back and finish-”

But before she could get the words out, Lucien’s shadow fell over her, and his lips captured hers, cutting her off mid-sentence. That final word “your breakfast” was swallowed entirely by the

heat of his kiss.

The deep kiss left Kaia completely defenseless. Her body gave in, melting into his burning embrace.

Lucien finally pulled away from Kaia’s lips, clearly satisfied. His thumb grazed her now-flushed mouth as he said, “I’m full now. Go on, get to work. Drive safe.”

Kaia wasn’t even sure how she made it out of the villa. Even as

she sat in the driver’s seat, her heart was still racing.

She had to admit that Lucien really knew what he was doing. She didn’t stand a chance against him. Even though he claimed he’d never dated before, it was impossible to believe women hadn’t pursued him.

Kaia couldn’t help but wonder if she would be able to hold onto

herself and walk away from this marriage unscathed, or if she would end up swept into another beautiful illusion built on lies.

Meanwhile, Lucien, now well-fed and content, headed out to the office.

Jason watched the two of them leave one after the other, smiling to himself as he cheerfully returned to clear the breakfast table. At this rate, we’ll be hearing baby news before the year’s out.

At ten o’clock, the villa welcomed a guest. Allen burst into the living room and sank onto the couch. He took in the transformation around him-the stark black, white, and grey scheme had given way to softer, feminine touches.

He turned to Jason with a pointed look. “She did all this?”

Jason, not daring to offend him, answered carefully, “Mrs. Graves did add a few touches, yes, sir.”

Allen made a face. “So, they’re planning to treat this place like

their marital home now?”

Jason replied, “That seems to be the case.”

With his hands behind his back, Allen slowly made his way upstairs. When he spotted several of Lucien’s clothes in the guest room closet, his tone turned snide. “What’s this, they’re still sleeping in separate rooms?”

Jason nervously rubbed the bridge of his nose and replied, “Mr. Graves said he’s waiting for the wedding. He’ll move back into the master bedroom after that.”

Allen scoffed, “Oh, how gentlemanly of him.” Then, with a snort, he added, “As if nobody knows he’s a damn wolf in a suit.”

A real gentleman, he thought, wouldn’t be pursuing his own nephew’s fiancée.

Still, what was done was done. Allen had no choice but to let it go. Right now, getting a grandchild was the bigger priority.

He muttered, “You should talk some sense into him, Jason. He’s thirty-three already. It’s time he considered having children. Never mind, I’ll deal with him myself.”

Shaking his head in frustration, he strode out of the villa.

Lucien studied the ring that had arrived earlier that morning. It sparkled brilliantly under the light, and he was fairly satisfied with it.

He said, “Frank, clear tonight’s schedule. And I don’t want anyone calling me for anything after five.”

Frank understood immediately-Lucien obviously wanted total privacy tonight.

Kaia arrived early at the law firm, only to be summoned into Jude’s office for questioning.

“I’ve been thinking, Kaia,” Jude pressed. “None of this makes sense. You have a marriage license, but where was the wedding? Did he provide a home? What did he do for you?”

Kaia shifted uncomfortably under his scrutiny. “The ceremony hasn’t happened yet. But he already has a house, and all the wedding arrangements are settled. There’s nothing to worry

about.”

Sometimes, she felt Jude was more like an old-fashioned dad than a boss. But she couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth.

However impressive Lucien might be, Kaia knew that if Jude realized she’d married just to gain leverage from Lucien, he would likely disapprove.

So rather than have Jude worry, she figured it was better to keep him in the dark. No need to trouble him over her own choices.

Jude wasn’t too happy with such a vague answer. He let out a sigh. “Don’t blame me for nagging, but marriage isn’t something you rush into. If you don’t like a job, you can always quit. But if you end up with the wrong husband, the cost of leaving will be way higher.”

“I understand, Jude. Really, I do,” Kaia said. “Right now, he’s everything I could ask for, and I’m happy. If that changes, then you can help me find a good divorce lawyer.”

With a slight frown, Jude chuckled helplessly, “You and that mouth of yours. Come on, don’t jinx it. The wedding hasn’t even happened yet.”

Kaia finally relaxed a little when she saw him smile.

That afternoon, Jude stopped by Graves Group and ended up chatting with Julian for a while in his office.

Julian asked, “What? You ran into Mr. Graves the other day?”

“Yeah, Mr. Rhodes,” Jude replied. “You’re surprised too, right? Turns out Mr. Graves is actually pretty approachable. He even joined us for dinner.”

Naturally, he didn’t mention the clash between Lucien and Gilbert that had happened that day.

Julian, sharp as ever, picked up on something. “You must think highly of Ms. Domont, Mr. Halston. Not everyone would bring someone along to a gathering like that.”

Jude waved it off, though he was quietly wondering why Julian

seemed so interested in Kaia.

So, Jude deliberately said, “Oh, it wasn’t anything like that. I was trying to play matchmaker. I know a young prosecutor who’s single and figured I’d set them up. But what do you know? My apprentice went and suddenly got married.”

Julian gasped, “Say what now?”

Jude said, “Exactly what you heard. I mean, can you believe it? Young people nowadays are something else. They hardly even know each other before they rush into a marriage. And to think she hid it from me!”

He then added with a pointed smile, “But I can’t blame the guy. She’s beautiful, smart, and capable. Of course, he would want to lock her down. Don’t you think so, Mr. Rhodes?”

Julian answered carefully, “Absolutely. Totally understandable. Did Ms. Domont mention what her husband does?”

Hearing that, Jude almost rolled his eyes. Still not giving up, huh, Julian?

So, Jude replied with a flourish, “She didn’t say, but he must be doing pretty well. The house and the car are both in Kaia’s name. I heard the wedding gift was generous too. Her dad is over the moon, that’s for sure.”

Hearing that, the man standing just outside Julian’s office had a

very interesting expression on his face.

So, this is what she has been telling people? She talks me up

that?
