But Lucien nodded without hesitation. “Alright.”

He tapped her gently on the tip of her nose. “If it’s what you want, how could I say no?”
Then he leaned closer, his voice low and teasing. “But if I’m agreeing to all your terms… shouldn’t I get a reward?”
Lucien’s lips brushed against Kaia’s earlobe, teasing and nipping until she lowered her head, face burning, wishing she could just disappear.
“So, do I get a yes, sweetheart?” he murmured.
Kaia cursed him a dozen times in her head but still gave the faintest nod, her cheeks blazing red.
By the time the long kiss finally ended, Kaia was breathless. “You’re such a greedy capitalist.”
All she had asked was for him to help her fake a harmless little act–how had it turned into this?
“Greedy?” Lucien licked his lips, clearly savoring the moment. “Exactly. And I always take my cut–especially from you.”
Before she could respond, he kissed her again, harder this time.

The next morning, Kaia stormed out of the house in her heels, skipping breakfast entirely. She moved like a gust of wind–fast, sharp, and clearly furious.
Jason asked with concern, “Mr. Graves, did you and Mrs. Graves get into a fight?”
Lucien was calmly enjoying his breakfast. “We’re still in the honeymoon phase. Why would we fight?”
He set down his utensils and straightened his tie.
Her car had been taken in for maintenance yesterday–she couldn’t have gotten far.
He didn’t mean to take it that far last night. For real, he didn’t. But then she kept wiggling in his arms, trying to escape…
By the time she realized what was happening, it was too late.
Lucien had already taken over, and her mind was too fogged up
to protest.
Last night was… intense.
Lucien kept his cool, but his strides toward the door were fast.
But when he got outside, he was met with… nothing.
She was already gone.

After taking a few days off for the wedding, Kaia returned to work. She even brought back gifts for her colleagues.
Everyone was caught off guard.
How had Kaia just… gotten married like that?
Only Jude had the chance to attend the wedding, and he was the only one who knew Lucien was her husband.
That night really blew his mind. The wedding pulled in all kinds of big shots from everywhere. Even though he tried hard to keep it cool, he got shook sitting at that VIP table.
And when Lucien came over just to toast him? That said everything.
Jude still had several powerful people’s numbers in his phone from that night.
When a man really loved someone, it wasn’t about the talk. It was about what he actually did–especially for the people she cared about.
Jude was impressed. Lucien, in his eyes, was worthy of Kaia’s
trust.

Of course, for every person offering heartfelt congratulations, there was someone eager to stir the pot.
“Well, I didn’t expect Ms. Domont to marry so young. What a tragic waste of youth,” Ophelia quipped. “You’re so beautiful. You should’ve held out for someone with more… financial upside.”
Ophelia had always been bothered by how close Jude was to Kaia.
She was convinced they had something going on after her divorce from Jude. Why else would he treat Kaia with such care?
Ever since the reality show–where Alex had hand–picked Kaia -Ophelia had quietly added it to her mental scoreboard. Stack that on top of her usual envy, and the resentment had long since become second nature.
The cheerful energy in the room turned tense.
Kaia gave a soft, unbothered smile. “Oh? So you’re aiming for a sugar daddy? I wonder if Mr. Lambert fits the bill?”
The blow landed clean. Ophelia’s face contorted.
That was clearly a jab–accusing her of being a gold–digger.
When Jude walked in, Ophelia had a whole speech prepared― but swallowed it down. She scoffed and rolled her eyes as she

Jude frowned, watching his ex–wife’s retreating back. “What was she doing here?”
“Trying to stir up drama,” Kaia said flatly. “But don’t worry. She’s no threat.”
“She’s really not,” someone chimed in. “Kaia just completely shut her down. You should’ve seen Ophelia’s face!”
Back in her office, Ophelia seethed. At this point, even Kaia’s breathing felt like a personal offense.
Ever since that Graves Group project, Kaia’s status at the firm had skyrocketed. Even Alex gave her top priority now.
Meanwhile, Ophelia–who had ten years more experience—kept getting sidelined.
Why? Why should she be above me?
Miles walked in and immediately noticed her sour expression. “Wow. Who peed in your coffee this morning?”
“Miles, the non–equity partner selection at the end of the year- I’m still in the running, right?”
Miles hesitated, “Hard to say. You know Kaia’s been making waves lately.”

“So what? I’ve been at this firm longer!”

Miles didn’t respond. She wasn’t wrong about her tenure, but partnership wasn’t based on seniority alone.
Performance mattered. So did capability.
He chose to stay silent. Experience had taught him that saying too much would only trigger another one of Ophelia’s tantrums.

At the dealership, Kaia was picking up her car when Tobias called with the “good” news.
“Kaia, Sally agreed to the divorce. So, how about setting up that dinner with Lucien?”
Kaia hadn’t expected him to pull it off so quickly.
“It’s done! If you don’t believe me, I can send you the divorce papers.”
Kaia smirked. “No need. I’ll verify it myself.”
Right then and there, she made a call to a friend, asking for help checking the documents.
Ten minutes later, the confirmation came through.

Kaia stared at the message on her phone, almost in disbelief.
Sally really had gone through with it.
No fight over assets. Just signed and done.
Well then, I guess it’s time for Lucien and me to put on a show.
