Chapter 192 Jude Became Lucien’s Eyes
Sometimes, Kaia honestly wanted to slap Ophelia across the face.
“Ms. Graham, do you ramble like this in court too? Tossing out nonsense without checking the facts?
“My husband might be older, but he’s still younger than you. Maybe you chose the wrong profession. Ever considered journalism?”
Ophelia’s face went stiff and sour, like she’d just bitten into something rotten.
Kaia walked right past her and into the elevator, leaving Ophelia’s high–pitched voice screeching in the hallway.
“Ms. Domont, I was just speaking the truth! Why are you so triggered?” She even had the audacity to follow Kaia back to the office floor.
Kaia rolled her eyes. “Triggered? Please. If you’re so obsessed with comparisons, why don’t we start with something that actually matters? Like win rates. Case volume. Billings. Which one do you want to lose at first?”
Ophelia was stunned silent. She couldn’t touch Kaia on any of those fronts.

After a beat, she finally managed a half–hearted comeback, weak as paper. “What, a Lexus now makes you high society?”
Vanessa and Warren exchanged a look.
“What’s wrong with her now?”
Kaia shrugged. “Nothing. She just saw someone from my family drop me off and decided it was my husband. Made a few snide comments. Nothing new.”
Vanessa scoffed, “What, a Lexus doesn’t meet her royal standards now?”
Jude arrived just in time to catch that last part. “Who?”
“Ms. Graham, obviously,” Vanessa said. “She’s been trying to dig up dirt on Kaia’s husband for weeks. Now she’s acting smug because she thinks he drives a Lexus.”
Jude’s expression twitched.
Lucien… driving a Lexus? That doesn’t sound right.
“It’s fine,” Kaia said smoothly. “She’s just looking for
ways to poke at us because our team’s doing well. Let her keep talking. By the end of the year, she’ll have a lot more to be upset about.”
She didn’t care about the petty digs. What she cared about was

the bigger picture—non–equity partner. That was the real goal.
Back in his office, Jude quietly pulled out his phone.
He’d saved Lucien’s number after that brief interaction at the hospital.
Lucien was in a meeting when his phone vibrated twice on the table.
He typically didn’t tolerate phones in meetings, not even his own -unless it was urgent.
This one, however, came from Jude. Kaia’s direct supervisor.
Lucien‘ raised a hand. “Let’s pause for ten. Take a break.”
He picked up the phone and checked the message.
Jude: [Mr. Graves, were you the one who dropped Kaia off at the office this morning?]
Lucien frowned.
Something must’ve happened.
Lucien: [No, I had a meeting. Sent her with the driver. What’s up?]
Jude replied tactfully, just hinting enough without stirring.

Lucien answered almost immediately.

Lucien: [Thanks for the heads–up. If anything like that happens again, keep me posted.]
And just like that, Jude became Lucien’s eyes inside the firm.
At the firm’s weekly meeting, Ophelia was even more aggressive than usual. Her remarks were laced with passive–aggressive jabs, all clearly aimed at Kaia.
But Kaia’s work was bulletproof. Ophelia’s petty attacks bounced right off her.
Alex, watching the spectacle unfold, couldn’t help raising an eyebrow.
What’s wrong with her today?
After the meeting, he called Miles aside.
“Miles, talk to Ophelia. Tell her to dial it back. We’re all on the same team here, and this kind of infighting reflects poorly on the firm.”
Miles nodded, serious now. He didn’t wait long. As soon as the

meeting ended, he pulled Ophelia into his office.
“What the hell is wrong with you today?”
Ophelia, already fuming from the morning, snapped, “What’s wrong with me? Now you’re siding with her too?”
Miles quickly shut the door. “I’m not taking sides. You want to go after someone, fine, but at least be smart about it. Snapping at everyone like a cornered stray isn’t a strategy, it’s a meltdown.”
Ophelia’s eyes welled with frustrated tears. “You didn’t hear what she said to me this morning! She just humiliated me!”
And with that, she stormed out of his office.
Why is everyone against me? And why did everyone defend Kaia?
Is it because she’s prettier?
Once that thought lodged in her mind, it festered. Obsession twisted her vision until nothing looked right anymore.

Kaia had no idea that she’d become a lightning rod for Ophelia’s fixation.

At lunch, they happened to pass each other in the building’s dining area.
Ophelia didn’t say a word, but the look in her eyes was
venomous.
“Kaia, did you see the way she looked at you just now?” someone whispered. “I swear, she looked like she wanted to eat you
alive.”
Warren nodded grimly. “You’d better be careful. This doesn’t feel like it’s over.”
Something seriously didn’t feel right.
