Chapter 200 Too Much Money
Kaia frowned.
Could this card come from Allen?

Kaia held the black card between her fingers, feeling a creeping unease. Without a second thought, she headed to Graves Group.
But the moment she arrived, she realized she might have come at a bad time.
Just as she was about to call Lucien, she ran into Julian.
“Mrs…” Julian caught himself immediately, noting the looks cast by passing employees. He quickly corrected, “Ms. Domont, you’re here. Come with me.”
At Graves Group, the only ones who knew about her relationship with Lucien were Zane, Julian, and maybe Lucien’s assistant.
Kaia quietly followed Julian into the elevator.
“Mrs. Graves, we’ll switch to the executive elevator on the third floor, Mr. Graves is still in a meeting, but you can wait for him in his office.”
Kaia nodded lightly and made herself comfortable inside.

Lucien was just like his office, with sharp lines and clean
contrasts.

He was disciplined to the extreme.
Maybe the only irrational thing he’d ever done in his life was marry her, his nephew’s ex–fiancée.
She reached for a magazine off the shelf at random. The cover showed a man who looked calm, mature, and proper to a fault.
Only she knew how that same man burned like a house fire at night, consuming and relentless.
Across the conference table, Lucien raised his eyebrow at the man who was almost ten years older than him.
“Mr. Vane, don’t you think this is a bit much?”
Malcolm, with his infamous temper, huffed. “What’s too much about it? I’m ready to invest five billion dollars. Just send me the account, and I’ll wire it over today.”
Lucien had never seen anyone try to close a deal like this, blunt and absurd.
He gave a hum. “Yeah… no.

“I just saw an ad this morning. It says if someone offers you free money, it’s probably a scam.”
Malcolm fell silent.
“Come on, Lucien. Why are you being so difficult?
“Are you giving me the account or not?”
Lucien shook his head. “No.”
This wasn’t a playground. And five billion dollars wasn’t pocket change. The Vane family might have some pull, but Lucien barely knew them.
The truth was, the Vanes had kept such a low profile
domestically over the years that hardly anyone even knew they
existed.
“Ten billion dollars. That should be enough for you, right?”
Lucien’s temple twitched. He seriously considered throwing Malcolm out.
“Mr. Vane, if you keep this up, I will call the police,
“If that money turns out to be dirty, accepting it could put us in legal jeopardy.”
Malcolm’s eyes bulged. “The Vane family runs a clean business

now!”

Sure, they hadn’t always been clean, but after decades of effort, they had gone from black to white.
Eventually, Malcolm stormed out in frustration.
Lucien left the meeting room, only to learn that Kaia had arrived.
He strode quickly back to the office and turned to Frank. “If anything comes up, call me. Don’t come in.”
He almost said it out loud that nobody should disturb his private moments with Kaia.
Frank’s mouth twitched. “Understood, Mr. Graves.”
Kaia was half–asleep on the office couch when she felt warm breath brush her cheek. “You’re here. Did you miss me?”
She opened her eyes. No matter how many times she saw that flawless face of his, she still felt like she’d hit the jackpot.
“Yeah. Your meeting’s done?” she asked, sitting up to clear her head.
“Yes. Just finished.”

Kaia pulled out the black card from her purse. “Lucien, this was among the wedding gifts. I checked the balance. It’s got a hundred million dollars in it.”
Lucien’s brows drew together. “Was it meant for you?”
Kaia paused. “Not sure. We mixed all the gifts together that day. But I doubt it was meant for me.”
She automatically assumed such a big amount was meant for Lucien.
If it had only been a few million, she wouldn’t have been so shocked.
“Do you know who sent it?”
She shook her head. “The registration only had a last name— Vane.”
Lucien fell silent.
Vane again?
Lucien’s expression turned grave. Kaia caught it. “You know them?”
“No,” Lucien replied coolly. “Never heard of them.”

But he had a hunch.

No one would casually gift a hundred million without a name, especially not quietly. And certainly not at a wedding.
With that thought in mind, he suddenly asked, “When are we visiting your mother? Have you picked a day?”
Kaia blinked. She hadn’t expected him to bring it up himself.
“This Saturday. What do you think?”
She was free, and it happened to be Lillian’s birthday.
There weren’t many people left in the world who remembered her mother’s birthday.
Lucien nodded. “Alright. Saturday it is.”

Malcolm returned to his hotel room, frustrated.
He called Desmond. “What’s wrong with Lucien? Is he insane or what? I offered to invest five billion, and he turned me down.”
Desmond fell silent for a while. “What project?”
“That new resort development.”

“Malcolm, Graves Group is never short of money. When you throw around billions like that, it doesn’t look like an investment. It looks like you’re asking for trouble,” Desmond said helplessly.
Malcolm was speechless.
He just wanted to give his niece a little support and let the Graves family know she had powerful people behind her. And she wasn’t someone they could push around.
Turns out, giving money was hard.
If he’d known, he would’ve just put all five billion into that black card.
Back at Graves Group, Lucien studied the file in his hand, his eyes sharp.
The man who’d offered five billion earlier turned out to be Lillian’s older brother.
So… he’s Kaia’s uncle.
