“Yeah. You stay and look after them. I’ve got something to take care of.” Lucien said casually.

Frank, already tipsy, looked like he’d just been abandoned at

Frank straightened immediately.

“Got it, Mr. Graves. I’ll make sure everything runs smooth. No problem at all. If anything happens to me, just… make sure they call an ambulance.”

Lucien smirked. “Relax. It’s not that serious. Just say you’re on antibiotics, No one will dare force you to drink. Fine–two points this month. But try baggling again, and I’ll take it back.”

Frank’s face lit up like he’d just hit the jackpot. “Understood. Thank you, Mr. Graves. Safe trip!”

Lucien boarded the plane, still mulling over what kind of surprise Kaia might have in store for him.

Lucien’s expression darkened slightly. “What are you doing here? Off to Luna?”

“No,” Alden replied evenly, meeting his eyes. “I came to see you.”

“That’s not it,” Alden interrupted, his tone sharper now. “I want to know–why are you taking Kaia overseas?”

Lucien’s smile vanished. His eyes cooled, brow furrowing. “Who are you talking about?”

“Don’t play dumb,” Alden snapped. “You know exactly who I mean. She’s already taken the DELF exam. How long did you think you could keep it under wraps?”

Lucien seemed to freeze over, icy energy rolling off him as Alden’s words kept looping in his head. “She has already taken the DELF test.”

She took the exam and didn’t even tell me?

Lucien’s gaze turned razor–sharp, laced with menace. “Why would I need to tell you anything?”

“I want the truth right now, Uncle Lucien!” Alden’s tone left no room for retreat.

Lucien’s reply came fast and cutting, “Get lost or I’ll throw you on the next flight out of here, too!”

Meanwhile, Kaia had laid out a full spread of dishes–every single one something Lucien liked.

She even brought out a carefully chosen bottle of red wine and scattered rose petals across the entryway. A bouquet of fresh flowers stood at the center of the table, with a small card tucked inside, written just for Lucien.

There were things Kaia couldn’t bring herself to say out loud. All the words of thanks she wanted to express, she had written down instead.

She sat on the couch, eyes on the clock as the second hand ticked by minute after minute until it finally reached seven.

Kaia opened the front door, but Lucien was nowhere in sight. She checked the flight and saw that it had landed at six. She figured maybe he was stuck in traffic with the evening rush.

She sat there from six o’clock until eight, and Lucien still hadn’t returned. Unable to hold back, she dialed his number, only to

get no response.

Then, around nine, Kaia finally heard the door handle turn. She was so relieved that she ran out barefoot.

Lucien stood there with his suitcase in hand, not saying a word. His brow was tightly drawn, and that familiar crease between his eyes was deeper than usual.

“Yeah,” Lucien replied.

He had spent two full hours cooling off outside before coming back in.
