Chapter 244 Isn’t He Adorable?

She asked, “Lucien, are we heading to the Graves Manor first?”

It was only proper. After all, they’d just returned to the country. It made sense to visit the elders first.

Lucien nodded. “Yeah. I told Dad we’d be there. He’s really happy.”

And why wouldn’t he be? Lucien had run off halfway across the world for love, not caring one bit about the family business. Now, he was finally home again.

Lucien had always pampered Kaia like she was made of glass. At first, Allen hadn’t quite understood it. But over time, even he had started seeing how good Kaia was and how much Lucien

doted on her.

Love by association came naturally.

And this year had been full of good news.

First, Alden gave him his first great–grandson. Then Alyssa got pregnant, and they’d soon welcome their first great–granddaughter.

And if Kaia got pregnant too… that would be a triple blessing.

Kaia had no objections to going to Graves Manor first.

Next to her stood Landon, looking exasperated as he tried to convince her to calm down.

Kaia didn’t even look at Lucien pushing the cart behind her. She just ran straight to her bestie. “Alyssa!”

“Kaia!”

“I missed you so much!” Kaia wrapped her in a big, careful hug and immediately reached out to touch her belly. “My godson’s getting huge.”

Landon frowned. “We’re having a girl.”

Godson? Please. He had zero interest in having a boy. If some other man wanted to deal with a little gremlin, be his guest.

Lucien watched as his wife flew off like a little bird straight into someone else’s arms. His lips pressed into a thin line.

So much for the six months he spent with her overseas. It was like his efforts meant nothing. Maybe he should’ve just stayed away. At least then she might’ve missed him more.

Then, correcting Kaia, he added, “Honey, that’s not your godson. Technically, that’s your grandnephew.”

Kaia and Alyssa were both speechless.

That family tree was getting way too complicated. Kaia wasn’t even thirty yet, and somehow, she already had a grandnephew. She couldn’t take it.

Kaia gave Lucien a dramatic glare. “You know what? You getting old is your business. But marrying you is aging me too!”

Lucien visibly stiffened. If there was one word he hated, it was “old“. The older a man got, the more allergic he became to the

word.

Landon burst into laughter, absolutely delighted. “She’s got a point. Poor Kaia’s going through hell being married to some old guy.”

Lucien gave him a side–eye that screamed, “Do you want to die today?”

The two besties walked ahead, leaving the ridiculous welcome sign and the luggage cart in their husbands‘ hands.

“Got it,” Landon mumbled.

Lucien let out a quiet snort. At least Kaia didn’t make him look ridiculous in public.

The two men, like schoolboys, started bickering at the back.

“Lucien,” Landon said smugly. “I’m gonna be a dad soon.”

Lucien didn’t even blink. “Yeah? So?”

Landon grinned even wider. “Nothing much. Just saying. You’d better get moving. I heard that the older you get, the worse your swimmers get.”

Lucien didn’t bite. “You want a girl, right? Did you check the gender?”

Landon shook his head. “Nope. But I just know it’s a girl.”

Lucien’s smile was slow and distinctly wicked. “Then I sincerely hope this one turns out to be a boy.”

Landon was stunned. Why did that blessing sound so strange?

Kaia asked, “Alyssa, how have you been feeling? Is it hard being pregnant?”

Kaia had never been around anyone going through this. Alyssa was the first. Kaia didn’t even have friends who were moms yet.

“A little,” Alyssa admitted. “It’s tiring, but manageable. I just feel like I look awful. Kaia, be honest, did I get really fat?”

Kaia gave her a good once–over. “What? No way. Gaining a little weight is totally normal when you’re pregnant. Your face is still super cute and small. Don’t overthink it. Once you give birth, it’ll go back down.”

She gently squeezed Alyssa’s hand. “Don’t stress. Just take it one step at a time. Your baby’s going to be healthy, sweet, and absolutely beautiful.”

Alyssa smiled, “I really hope so.”

Landon was behind the wheel, Lucien riding shotgun.

The two girls were in the backseat, chattering away as if the men didn’t even exist. Kaia started telling Alyssa everything that had happened abroad over the past year–stories, frustrations, fun moments, and cultural shocks.

The car soon rolled through the gates of the Graves Manor.

Kaia stepped out with a soft, graceful smile. “Allen, Zane, Joanne. I’m home.”

She was holding bags filled with gifts she’d picked up abroad.

Allen looked genuinely pleased. “Good. That’s all that matters. You’re finally back.”

She had chosen a designer handbag for Joanne, a vintage collectible for Allen, and a luxury watch for Zane.

The gifts were very appropriate and tasteful. Of course, the card that paid for them all was Lucien’s.

Joanne accepted the gift with a smile, but inwardly, her emotions were complicated.

Luna hadn’t given her a single gift. And now she was the one stuck helping take care of the baby–even if the child was technically her grandson.

The more Joanne thought about it, the more bitter she felt.

“Kaia,” she said with a deliberate tone. “You’re going to have a grandnephew. Want to go upstairs and take a look?”

Kaia had no particular interest in the child. But out of respect for Allen, she nodded and followed Joanne upstairs.

Joanne beamed as she pointed at the baby, “Look at him! Isn’t he adorable? Like a little doll, don’t you think?”

Kaia’s brow furrowed. Her expression turned subtly strange.
