Chapter 255 Kaia’s Speculation

“After Kimberly returned to the Martins family, she barely stepped outside. The last time she did was to meet with Luna.”
Kaia frowned. “Do you think Luna said something that pushed her to jump?”
Lucien shook his head. “Not sure. It could’ve just been a normal meetup. But the villa she was staying in–the one owned by her cousin was sold just a few days ago.”
So, the ones who really pushed Kimberly to her death might be the Martins!
Kaia turned to reassure Lucien, “It’s fine. I’ll look into this. Trust me, I’ll handle it well.”
Lucien gazed into her bright, determined eyes, shining with
confidence.
She really has grown. She doesn’t need my protection anymore.
The feeling was hard for Lucien to describe–like watching a baby he’d raised soar beyond the sky he’d once sheltered her
under.
“I know you’ll handle it perfectly. But if you need help, I should be the first one you think of.”

Kaia burst out laughing, “You’re so petty, wanting to be first in everything?”
Lucien pulled her into his arms. “I want to be your top priority.”

With such a major incident happening, the rest of the Graves family quickly found out.
Seeing that neither Lucien nor Kaia were around, Joanne sneered, “Kaia really has nerves of steel. She didn’t shed a tear when her father died, and now she hasn’t even gone to pay her respects after her sister’s death. How heartless.
“The public outrage is raging, and she doesn’t even react. No wonder she could just waltz off abroad for a year without a
care.”
Joanne was insinuating that Kaia was cold–blooded.
Alyssa, who had finally returned to Graves Manor for once, overheard Joanne badmouthing her friend.
She set down her utensils. “Joanne, don’t judge others when you haven’t walked in their shoes. When Tobias favored Kimberly and mistreated Kaia, why didn’t you speak up for her? I won’t let my child grow up with such a warped sense of right and wrong.”
“Alyssa, how dare you speak to your elder like that!” Joanne

Alyssa bent down. “Ouch, my stomach hurts. Grandpa, Landon should be here soon. I’ll head out first.”
Allen immediately grew concerned. “Are you okay? Don’t let this nonsense upset you. Just ignore her. Go rest on the sofa—I’ll call the family doctor.”
Joanne gritted her teeth.
Just ignore me? This old man’s favoritism is blatant.
“I’m done eating, too!” Joanne slammed her utensils down and stormed upstairs.
The meal ended in discord.
Throughout it all, Luna didn’t say a single word.
Alyssa narrowed her eyes at Luna, finding her silence unusually conspicuous.
In the car, Landon noticed Alyssa was lost in thought.
“What’s wrong? Are you upset?” he asked.
Alyssa shook her head. “No. Just annoyed with Joanne. By the way, if a gossip suddenly clams up, could it be because they’re guilty of something?”

Landon ruffled her hair. “Alright, don’t overthink it. You’re due soon—no unnecessary stress.”
Alyssa huffed, but as soon as she got home, she hurriedly updated Kaia.
Kaia was researching online when she heard Alyssa’s account and also found Luna’s behavior suspicious.
Normally, Luna would’ve joined Joanne in mocking Kaia.
“Alyssa, got it. I’ll look into it. Thanks for standing up for me.”
“No need for thanks between us. I genuinely can’t stand Joanne. Is she going through menopause or something?”
Kaia chuckled, “Maybe. Anyway, try not to provoke her too much. It’ll upset your grandpa.”
“No way! If she’s wrong, I’ll just call her out. Don’t worry, Kaia. If you can’t say it, I’ll say it for you!”
After hanging up, Kaia returned to her thoughts.
Luna just returned recently and only met Kimberly once. Could her influence really be that strong? Did she incite her to jump or fuel the situation?
Kaia kept digging into the Martins‘ background, holed up in the

Just as Lucien was about to take Kaia to bed, she received a call
from Gwen.
“Are you asleep? Hope I’m not disturbing you.” Gwen’s voice came through.
Kaia smiled, “Not yet. Is this something important?”
“Yes. Jude mentioned you’re suing for defamation to clear your name. I happen to be free and can represent you in court–if you don’t mind?”
Kaia was surprised. “Of course, I don’t mind. I’m lucky to have your help.”
Kaia could defend herself, but she wanted another perspective to help organize the case.
She worried she might not think clearly at times.
“Good, let’s discuss the details at the firm tomorrow!”
Lucien leaned against the doorway, waiting for Kaia to finish the call before asking, “Ready for bed, sweetheart?”
Kaia shot him an exasperated look. “Just sleep tonight. No ‘extracurriculars‘.”

Lucien raised a brow, leaning down to kiss her lips. “I’m a civilized man, not a beast.”
Kaia froze for a second.
A beast?
