Kaia felt a sharp pang in her chest.

Vanessa was truly an innocent caught up in this nightmare because of her.

“There was no way I would’ve made that call myself,” Vanessa said quietly. “After I fainted, I woke up in some dark, dingy warehouse. I was terrified.”

“Don’t be afraid. I’m so sorry, Vanessa. It’s my fault you got dragged into this. Jerry was after me all along,” Kaia confessed, guilt heavy in her voice.

Vanessa wiped away her tears with determination.

“So what? That doesn’t change the fact that he’s a total psycho! He’s the one who did wrong, and he deserves to pay.”

Kaia still felt guilty but was moved by Vanessa’s understanding.
