Chapter 32 The bar
Kaia laughed dismissively, “Sure, I’ll pick you up tonight. Gotta go–1 have a court session this afternoon.”
She grabbed a quick bite at a convenience store before returning to the firm.
Warren eagerly asked. “Did we get the contract?”
Kaia gave a thumbs–up. “Secured.”
Jude’s team was overjoyed, while Miles‘ group was shrouded in gloom.
“Keep it low–key until Jude gets back,” Kaia reminded them.
Warren and Vanessa weren’t the type to boast–unless provoked by rivals.
At 1 PM, she left for court with her files.
By the time the hearing ended, it was already four in the afternoon.
Seeing Tobias‘ call, Kaia immediately rejected it.
Nothing good ever comes from him calling me.

fitting tomorrow!]
Kaia glanced at the message and almost laughed.

How many times do I have to say it before they understand? I really did break up with Alden.
Alyssa strode out of the terminal in a fiery tank top and hot pants, only to shiver violently the moment she stepped outside.
She immediately spotted Kaia at the gate and rushed over, throwing her arms around her.
“Kaia, my love, I missed you so much!”
Kaia patted her bare back. “Alright, I get it. Did you just fly in from Hawaii? There’s a gale tonight–put this on before you catch a cold!”
Alyssa giggled, slipping on the coat before planting a loud kiss on Kaia’s cheek.
“You’re the best, always looking out for me.”
Kaia wiped her cheek in mock disgust. “Enough. Hungry? Let’s get dinner!”
Alyssa tightened the coat and smirked. “Nope, we’re going

somewhere else! I promised to show you the world!”

Soon, Kaia found herself in a deafeningly loud bar. Alyssa gestured to a row of eye–catching male escorts and asked, “Well, darling? Do you like them?”
Kaia had always been the good girl, her heart devoted solely to Alden.
This kind of “selection” scene was entirely new to her.
“Alyssa, is this a good idea?”
“Not a fan of big abs? How about the college kid on the far right?”
After a slight hesitation, Kaia nodded. “Him, then.”
In a VIP lounge on the second floor, Lucien leaned lazily against. the sofa, swirling his glass absentmindedly. His gaze drifted through the floor–to–ceiling windows, fixed on the dance floor below.
“Since when does Mr. Graves have something on his mind?” a man teased lightly.
Lucien replied dryly, “Says the one with the most schemes.”

“Shit!” Landon Collins scowled at his phone.
Lucien raised a brow. “What?”

Landon gritted his teeth. “Stop drinking. Your niece is downstairs picking up gigolos–and your nephew’s fiancée is with her. Alyssa, you’re dead!”
Lucien’s eyes darkened. “Who was here?”
“That unloved Kaia, the one marrying Alden at month’s end.”
The next second, Landon watched as Lucien vaulted over the railing, landing smoothly on the first floor.
Kaia had only pointed randomly because the boy’s slender frame stood out starkly against the muscular male escorts beside him.
Alyssa hadn’t expected Kaia to prefer this delicate, scholarly type either.
“Alright, you–and you–stay with us.”
The boy in the white T–shirt sat beside Kaia, his cheeks slightly flushed. “Miss, let me pour you a drink.”
His voice was clear as a spring, brimming with the freshness of a college student.
Staring at that innocent face, Kaia was momentarily transported

back to her university days.

Alden in high school had been just like this–clean and crisp in his white button–ups. Standing there, he could make girls scream just by existing.
She hadn’t screamed, but even she had thought Alden back then was devastatingly handsome.
By university, he’d worked out, his frame no longer slender, but his words had also grown fewer.
“Miss?” The boy blinked his harmless eyes, biting his lip shyly.
Kaia snapped out of her daze and smiled, “How old are you?”
“I just turned nineteen.”
Only nineteen. At nineteen, I was still chasing after Alden.
The self–proclaimed nineteen–year–old timidly asked, “Pretty, would you like to order another bottle?
“Just the cheapest one, I… I haven’t met my quota today.”
Just as Kaia was about to say “okay,” a pair of arms–tracing with blue veins–effortlessly lifted the boy in white and tossed him out of the booth.
A man radiating icy dominance looked down at Kaia, who had

just taken a big gulp of her drink. She hiccupped. “Kaia, didn’t I tell you to drink less? Seems you didn’t listen to a word.”
Kaia jolted, tilting her head up at the man looming over her. Her eyes widened.
“Mr. Graves?”
Alyssa was equally startled.
Her hand was still resting on the male escort’s sculpted abs when a cold voice growled by her ear-
“Alyssa. Mind telling me what the hell you’re touching?”
If looks could kill, Alyssa would’ve been impaled through the heart by Landon’s frosty glare.
Landon gritted his teeth, shooting a venomous look at the stunned Kaia. “Lucien, I’ll take your niece home first!”
Without another word, he hauled Alyssa over his shoulder and stormed out.
Lucien slid one hand into his pocket, his gaze lazily drifting to Kaia’s lips. “And you? Walking out on your own, or do I carry you?”
Kaia was genuinely terrified.
Chapter 32 The bar
Oh my god.
Why does this feel like those terrible first–time horror stories?
First night trying this, and I get caught by my ex’s uncle?!
As the bar’s neon sign buzzed and flashed, Lucien’s silhouette elongated across the floor, engulfing her in darkness.
