Chapter 77 Why did you just give in to her like that?
“Ms. Domont, we got the results from yesterday’s lawsuit. The court ruled in our favor. We don’t have to pay that outstanding amount. Here’s the judgment.”
Kaia took the court documents and flipped to the final page. Everything was exactly as she’d expected, though she could tell Megan was lying about the timing. This judgment definitely hadn’t come down yesterday.
“Thanks, Ms. Reeves.”
Megan had learned about Lucy’s termination and finally realized she’d picked the wrong person to mess with. She’d initially planned to make things difficult for Kaia to curry favor with the Graves Group. Still, now she knew Kaia had far more powerful backing.
With Julian behind her, they weren’t stupid enough to cross Kaia again.
“Ms. Domont, I’ve made reservations at a fancy restaurant for lunch. Would you like to join me?”
Kaia smiled politely but declined. “I appreciate the offer, Ms. Reeves, but I must return to the firm. Thanks anyway.”

The smile froze on Megan’s face.
As someone conducting due diligence, having lunch with them wouldn’t be appropriate. Besides, after yesterday’s condescending attitude, Kaia couldn’t muster much warmth toward Megan.
She could fake pleasantries for a few minutes, but putting on an act through an entire meal would be asking too much.
Kaia spent the entire afternoon compiling a detailed due diligence report on Ease Electronics and sending it to Jude. She stretched her arms and realized it was already six o’clock.
She gathered her things, ready to head home when she noticed Alyssa had sent her a location pin. Moments later, her phone
rang.
“Kaia, get over here and help me pick some clothes! I’m flying to Paris tomorrow for a fashion show.”
Kaia couldn’t help but envy Alyssa’s lifestyle. “Off hunting for inspiration again?”
Alyssa was an independent fashion designer who ran her studio on a whim. Some months, she’d release one collection; other times, she’d go months without creating anything, depending entirely on her mood and inspiration.
That was why she constantly jetted around the world, chasing creative sparks wherever they might strike.
Kaia envied Alyssa’s carefree, spontaneous life. In contrast, Alyssa envied Kaia’s clear sense of purpose and daily drive toward her goals.
Despite being complete opposites, these two women had become each other’s closest friends.
In an upscale boutique, Alyssa looked up and spotted Kaia. “Kaia, over here.”
Kaia walked over. “See anything you like?”
Alyssa shook her head. “Not really.”
She turned to the sales associate. “Is this all you have for new arrivals?”
“Yes, Ms. Graves. We’re getting another shipment tomorrow. Should we send them to Graves Manor as usual?”
As a VIP member, Alyssa typically had new pieces delivered to the manor for her to browse at home.
She shook her head. “No thanks, I’m flying out tomorrow.”

“Kaia, anything catches your eye?” She had noticed that Kaia hadn’t bought new clothes in ages.
Remembering her promise to Lucien for the weekend, Kaia looked around more seriously.
“Ms. Domont, a gorgeous purple gown is over there. You’d look absolutely stunning in it.”
The sales associate had a good eye and led her toward the window display.
As Kaia examined the dress more closely, she glanced up and caught sight of a couple outside the window.
Well, well-what a small world.
Luna spotted Kaia in the storefront window and let a barely perceptible smile curve her lips. “Alden, let’s check out this
store.”
Alden looked down at his phone and overlooked Kaia inside. He locked his screen and smiled warmly, “Sure, let’s go in. Buy whatever you like.”
“Kaia, have you decided on anything? Want to try something on?” Alyssa was equally oblivious to what had just unfolded.
As soon as she finished speaking, Luna had already linked arms
with Alden and glided toward them with practiced grace.
“Kaia, Alyssa, what a surprise seeing you here.” Luna’s voice was honeyed and soft.
Alyssa heard her voice and quietly rolled her eyes.
Running into this drama queen is precisely what I need.
Alden’s face went rigid, his gaze locked intensely on the woman before him.
Today, Kaia wore a peach-pink dress that revealed the natural flush in her cheeks. She rarely chose such feminine, soft colors, and the sight quickened Alden’s pulse.
Luna gritted her teeth, clearly sensing how different his attention was right now.
She tried desperately to reclaim his focus. “Alden, I want to try on that purple dress. I think it would look perfect on me. Will you buy it for me?”
Her finger pointed directly at the purple gown that Kaia had been admiring.
“Says who?” Alyssa shot Luna a sideways glare and rolled her eyes. “Kaia saw this dress first. Have you ever heard of first come, first served?”

Luna bit her lip and blinked her doe eyes appealingly. “Kaia, I fell in love with this dress when I saw it in the window. Could you maybe let me have it?”
Alden’s gaze stayed fixed on Kaia the entire time.
Honestly, purple wasn’t Luna’s color at all. Her delicate, understated style couldn’t handle such a bold, rich hue. Yet she insisted on having it anyway.
Alden thought that if Kaia would just say one soft word asking for his help, he’d convince Luna to give up the dress. But to his disappointment, Kaia simply raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Alyssa, I’m suddenly not crazy about this dress anymore. Since someone else wants it so badly, let her have it. Some people always want whatever’s in someone else’s hands. Once she actually puts it on, she’ll realize it doesn’t suit her.”
Alyssa had been ready to keep arguing, but since Kaia had spoken, she reluctantly backed down.
“Hmph! Some people love taking what belongs to others, don’t they?” Alyssa threw out the pointed comment.
Luna’s composure began to crack, but fortunately, Kaia and
Alyssa left before she completely lost it.
ป
The sales associate looked at Luna, clearly recognizing her as a high-end customer. “Miss, would you like me to wrap this up for you?”
Luna’s expression shifted several times before finally answering, “Yeah, wrap it up.”

Alyssa was still fuming as she remembered what happened. “Kaia, why did you just give in to her like that?”
