Chapter 79 It was driving her crazy
The pure white dress was flawless and dazzling.
Did Lucien… order this for me?
Lucien had barely been sitting for two minutes when Kaia’s bedroom door opened again.
He glanced up, brow lifting slightly. That fast?
But his expression shifted the moment he saw her—still in the same dress she’d been wearing earlier, holding something in her hands.
His brow creased. “What’s wrong? Something wrong with it?”
Kaia stepped forward, holding the white dress carefully, her expression unreadable.
“Lucien… you really want me to wear this one?”
Lucien nodded, his voice quiet but certain.
“Yeah. That’s the one.”
Kaia hesitated for a breath, then turned and walked back toward her room, the dress still pressed gently to her chest.

Was it just a coincidence?
A month ago that was exactly when he’d returned to the
country.
Did he order this dress right after coming back… and save it for
her?
She shook the thought away.
Still, when she slipped into the dress and turned to face the mirror, her breath caught in her throat.
The gown fit like it had been made just for her.
The skirt flowed effortlessly around her, hugging her curves with graceful ease. Tiny diamonds glittered from her waist down, cascading like a constellation spilling across the fabric.
As Kaia stepped out with graceful movements, Lucien’s eyes narrowed slightly, and Adam’s apple bobbed. His voice came out rough. “You look incredible.”
His intense gaze made her cheeks burn. She lifted her skirt slightly. “Isn’t it a bit much?”
Lucien let out a soft laugh. “Not at all.”
His girl looked glowing, so beautiful it took his breath away.

Kaia sighed, “Alright.”
She couldn’t shake the feeling that she looked like a bride,
and then she glanced at his black suit. He looked exactly like a
groom.
This damn matching outfit was driving her crazy.

Today’s event was a private gathering.
“Don’t worry,” Lucien said as they pulled up.
“It’s just a few childhood friends-basically like brothers to me. One of our old high school teachers-our physics teacher—is turning seventy. They’re throwing a small celebration for him.”
Kaia understood immediately.
Even if the guests saw her there, no one would gossip. No one would run back to Allen with stories. These weren’t people looking to stir drama-they were people Lucien trusted.
She gave a slight nod. “Got it. Thanks.”

Wiley had come alone tonight without a date. None of them would bring random women along for private gatherings like
this.
Landon was flying solo, too.
Among all the guys, Calvin was the only one with a girlfriend, and he was absolutely showing off.
“Mr. Smith, this is my girlfriend, Kayla Lewis.”
The minor entertainment industry starlet flashed a sweet smile. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Smith.”
“Haha, Kayla,” Kenneth said with a warm chuckle, “my wife watched your show the other night! She said someone as beautiful as you should be playing the lead, not just supporting roles.”
Kayla smiled politely. “Thank you-you’re too kind.”
Calvin patted Kayla’s hand affectionately. “She’s absolutely right. You’re gorgeous!”
But why wasn’t she getting lead roles? It was all because Calvin was holding her back. He loved Kayla but didn’t want her to become too famous. He preferred things this way-low-key,

romantic scenes with other actors.
For him, her current level of fame was perfect. As for what Kayla thought about it, that remained a mystery.
Landon and Wiley watched Calvin showing off his relationship and felt their teeth itch with irritation. The guy loved flaunting so much—they’d be thrilled when he eventually got dumped!
Kayla’s bright eyes flickered with curiosity. Why did her boyfriend’s two friends look at her with what seemed like a frustrated disappointment?
Kenneth glanced around the group. “Lucien’s not here? Did he go pick up his girlfriend?”
Lucien was several years older than them, but he’d also been Kenneth’s student back in high school. Technically speaking, Lucien was like a senior to Landon and the others.
Wiley smirked as he teased, “Mr. Smith, you don’t really know him. He’s so cold that nobody wants to hang out with him except us few. Without us, he wouldn’t have any friends at all, let alone a girlfriend.”
They all assumed that social media post from the other day was just some single guy’s wishful thinking.

Only Landon rubbed his nose thoughtfully, suspecting that bastard might actually show up with someone tonight.
Calvin chimed in, “Exactly. Mr. Smith, out of all your students, I’m definitely the most successful one.”
Landon and Wiley shot him deadly glares that screamed, “Seriously? Not having a girlfriend makes you unsuccessful?”
Kayla felt like Calvin was stirring up way too much trouble and tugged at his hand. Only then did Calvin finally shut up.
Lucien got out of the car and thoughtfully opened the door for Kaia. He offered his arm, and she naturally slipped hers through
his.
She didn’t notice the slight smile playing at the corners of his mouth, only hearing his deep voice whisper close to her ear.
“Come on, let’s go inside.”
The moment Lucien and Kaia stepped into the ballroom, they could feel every pair of eyes turning toward them.
Though only a handful of people stood scattered in small groups throughout the hall, the weight of so many curious and scrutinizing gazes made Kaia feel a surge of pressure.
