Chapter 80 A Nobody Celebrity
Lucien’s cool fingertips gently patted the back of her hand. “Don’t worry, I’m here. No one’s going to mess with you.”
Something about him just had this inexplicable power over her. Whenever he was around, she felt this strange sense of security wash over her.
“Lucien, did you finally get yourself a girlfriend?” Kenneth asked.
Lucien responded with his usual unhurried tone. “Mr. Smith, this is my girlfriend. She’s a lawyer.”
Kenneth’s eyes lit up with interest. “Well, I’ll be damned. You’ve got a sharp tongue yourself, but it looks like you found someone even sharper.”
Kaia smiled and nodded, then noticed the elderly woman beside
Kenneth.
“Sweetie, don’t mind my wife, she can’t speak. A lawyer, how wonderful! That’s really something!”
Wiley was genuinely shocked that Lucien brought a woman with him. But something about her face seemed familiar.
Calvin squinted his eyes, deep in thought.
Why does she look so familiar?
The more he stared, the more certain he became that he’d seen her before.
Neither of them could have imagined that Lucien’s so-called girlfriend was actually his nephew’s former fiancée.
Landon, the only one who knew the truth, mentally rolled his eyes at the whole charade.
Lucien actually brought her? That’s bold.
Doesn’t he care about what’s going to happen when his dad finds out?
It’s gonna blow up.
Lucien looked at his younger friends with smug satisfaction. “What’s the matter? Aren’t you gonna say hi to my girlfriend?”
Everyone exchanged bewildered looks.
“I’m talking to you guys. Come over and greet Kaia. I’m practically your elder here, so it’s only right that you introduce yourselves to her, don’t you think?”
The three of them were speechless and annoyed.
Chapter 80 A Nobody Celebrity
What a load of crap!
“Hi, Kaia.” Landon was the first to cave.
The other two reluctantly mumbled, “Hi, Kaia.’
Lucien frowned at their lackluster attitude. “Louder. And sound like you mean it.”
Wiley rolled his eyes internally and drawled sarcastically, “Hi there, Kaia!”
Calvin followed suit with the same tone.
It wasn’t that they had anything against Kaia—they just couldn’t stand Lucien acting all high and mighty!
“Kaia, you look familiar. Have we met before?”
Kaia’s heart skipped a beat.
Of course, they’d met-the Myers and Barnes families had attended that wedding.
Calvin said, “Yeah, Kaia, you do look familiar to me too.”
Right after he spoke, his girlfriend apparently pinched him hard enough to make him suck in a sharp breath and shut his mouth
immediately.
The group of childhood friends continued chatting about their usual topics.
Kayla stepped forward and took Kaia’s hand. “Let’s go check out that side of the room and let them talk.”
Kaia still felt awkward about kindness from strangers.
They hadn’t walked far when Kayla released her hand. She stuck out her tongue playfully. “Wasn’t their conversation totally boring?”
Kaia laughed softly, “Yeah, pretty much.”
“I’m Kayla Lewis. What’s your name?”
“I’m Kaia Domont. I know who you are.”
Kayla blinked in surprise. “You’ve seen my movies?”
“No.”
Kaia had actually recognized Kayla immediately. When she first started working at Vanguard Law Firm after graduation, she’d seen Kayla coming out of her boss’ office with red, tear-stained eyes. Kayla had been to their law firm before.
She felt a moment of disorientation. Even though she’d only caught a glimpse before, she could tell Kayla had changed dramatically.
“I saw you at the law firm that time.”
Kayla froze, her mind drifting back to that memory.
