When Ruby learned that Natalie had returned safe and sound, she had been overjoyed. She’d wanted to hold her daughter tight, to tell her everything she’d kept buried in her heart–but somehow, the joy never reached her chest. Her heart felt heavy; no matter how much she wanted to feel happy, she just couldn’t summon the strength.
After Waylon brought her back to the villa, her mood remained low. Since she hadn’t seen Natalie yet, she went to her room alone; but then she overheard everything Natalie had gone through, and her emotions completely collapsed.
Even after the family doctor examined her and urged her to stay positive, Ruby had barely steadied herself when she heard about Moses–how he hadn’t died after all, but had been sent away by Waylon when he was a child.
The revelation made Ruby so furious she could’ve killed Waylon on the spot.
And then, Baron returned.
Out of respect for him, Ruby had restrained herself from lashing out at Waylon; but when Yvonne got into trouble, she had no choice but to retreat back into her room, trying her best not to burden the family any further.
She truly hadn’t noticed the children.
Ever since Natalie’s kidnapping, she hadn’t paid much attention to them at all. The house had been silent–no laughter, no playful noise from the kids. How could I have been like this?
She was their grandmother.
Natalie had trusted Ruby enough to leave the children in her care.
And what have I done in return? Ruby’s eyes reddened, tears spilling fast.
“Natalie, I’m sorry–I’m so, so sorry. When I had my episode, I forgot all about the kids. I’m not fit to be their grandmother; I’m not fit to be anyone’s mother! Let’s go home right now- we’ll find out where they are!”
Her whole body trembled with emotion.
Seeing her like this made Natalie anxious, but she didn’t dare upset her further.
“Mom, please don’t panic. Maybe Flynn took care of things before he left. Let’s just wait for him, okay?”

Natalie was worried about the kids too–but she couldn’t let that worry send her mother spiraling again.
Ruby’s guilt grew unbearable; she thumped her chest with a trembling fist and choked out,
“Natalie, you should just send me back to the clinic. Like this, I’m only a burden to you.”
“Mom, don’t say that.”
Natalie tried to soothe her as she picked up her phone and called the villa.
It only rang a few times before someone answered.
“Hello, this is the Stone villa. Who’s speaking?”
The voice on the line was Sean’s, calm and clear.
Natalie’s heart leapt.
“Sean, it’s me. Are you and Susie doing alright at home?”
The moment Sean recognized her voice, he answered quickly, “Mommy! Uncle Flynn told Mason to come over and play with us before he left. And Mr. Payne’s here too, so don’t worry -we’re fine.”
The instant Natalie heard Payne was at the villa, she finally exhaled in relief.
Payne would never have gone alone–and if Mason, who hadn’t even been discharged from the hospital, was brought along, it meant Payne truly cared about the kids‘ safety.
Warmth spread through her chest.
Just then, a familiar voice came through the phone.
“Natalie, my husband called and said there’s been a lot going on at your place lately. He asked me to bring Mason over so the kids could play together; I hope you don’t mind?”
It was Aubree.
“Of course not. Thank you, Aubree.”
Natalie knew Aubree had no obligation to take her child to the Stone family villa; she’d done it purely to help, out of concern for the children’s safety.
Natalie wasn’t someone who confused right and wrong—she understood kindness and felt it

deeply.
“Aubree, once things settle down, I’ll send you a gift.”
“Deal! I was planning to get you something too.”

Her bright laughter carried through the receiver; it was so infectious that Natalie couldn’t help smiling herself.
“Alright.”
