“Why? Baron made her cry!” Flynn rubbed the back of his head, feeling the slap had been unfair. He looked at Ruby with a pitiful expression, but she only sighed. Yvonne couldn’t help laughing.

“My sister cried because she was worried about my brother, not because my brother made her cry,” Yvonne explained. “Now do you understand why Aunt said that if you hit my brother, my sister would be the one who’s upset?”

Flynn’s brows knitted so tightly it looked like he could crush a fly between them. Worry was one thing, but why cry over it? In his mind, a couple of punches would’ve been enough. He didn’t dare say that out loud though; he didn’t want another slap. Still, he grumbled inwardly that women were troublesome and making money was easier.

Ruby looked at his blank, innocent expression and knew he hadn’t understood a thing. Her heart sank. “Flynn, do you think I’ll live long enough to see you get married?” she asked.

Yvonne almost burst out laughing. Flynn’s face fell. “Mom, don’t worry. If that’s your dying wish, I’ll buy a wife if I have to-just so you can rest in peace.”

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Ruby raised her arm and smacked him hard. “I’ll kill you myself today if I have to!”

Now that Baron had been confirmed as one of their own, Ruby no longer held back. All the anger she’d kept bottled up-especially over being lied to about her eldest son-came pouring out onto Flynn.

“Flynn, stop right there! You always said you’d protect me and take care of me, yet you and your father lied to me about your brother. How long have you known? You watched me grieve and said nothing. Now you’re talking about me dying? You ungrateful brat! If I don’t beat you to death today, I’ll be ashamed of having raised you!”

Ruby stormed toward him, but Flynn wasn’t stupid-he darted away as fast as he could.

“Mom, come on, that’s not fair! Dad told me to keep quiet, it wasn’t my idea!”

“How is it not your fault? Didn’t I carry you for ten months? Your father only donated one little sperm cell, and you listen to him instead of me? You heartless boy! Stop right there!”

mad?”

Natalie didn’t hesitate. She leaned in and kissed him quickly on the cheek.
