Chapter 127
Teresa dusted off the divorce papers and left Brocade Villa with them.
When she arrived at Joyacre Villa, Teresa parked her car by the roadside but didn’t go inside.
Joyacre Villa had once been Teresa’s home, where she lived with her daughter and husband. Now, Joyacre Villa was Naomi’s home.
Ava was inside, and Teresa really didn’t want to see that face.
Teresa sat in her car for almost an hour before Charles finally pulled up at the entrance of Joyacre Villa.

Charles stepped out from the driver’s seat, opened the back door, and gently lifted Yolanda out. Then he turned around to help Naomi out of the car. Only after both of them were out did he close the car door.
For someone as proud as Charles, it was rare to see him put his pride aside like this.

After locking the car, Charles and Naomi each took one of Yolanda’s hands, and the three of them walked together toward Joyacre Villa.
Right as they were about to step inside, Teresa got out of her car and called after them, “Wait, Charles.”
Her voice made all three of them freeze in place–Charles, Yolanda, and Naomi. None of them expected Teresa to show up at Joyacre Villa this late at night.

Charles turned around and saw Teresa walking toward him from the roadside. Her face was unreadable, neither sad nor happy.
When she stopped about ten feet away from him, Teresa said, “Charles, let’s talk.”
Charles paused for a moment, then turned to them and said, “You two head inside first. I’ll just have a quick word with her and then come back.”
Yolanda stood in front of Naomi, her round eyes locked on Teresa. For some reason, she actually felt a little happy when she heard her mom’s voice.
But when Teresa didn’t pay her any attention, Yolanda’s mood instantly soured.
So after Charles told them to go in, Yolanda huffed and marched angrily into Joyacre Villa. Naomi went in after her.
Teresa could tell from the look on Yolanda’s face that her daughter didn’t really think much of her anymore. But honestly, none of that mattered to her now.
Once Yolanda and Naomi had gone inside Joyacre Villa, Teresa handed Charles the divorce papers with her left hand and said, “These are the divorce papers I brought. Take a look, and if there’s nothing wrong, just sign them.”
Charles stared at the papers in the soft orange glow, and for a moment, he felt a chill in his chest. But in the end, he reached out and took them.
But before he could say anything, Naomi’s voice called out from inside Joyacre Villa, “Charles, Yolanda’s got a stomachache again.”
Charles immediately hurried toward Joyacre Villa. But this time, Teresa called out to stop him. “Charles, wait.”
Charles paused and said, I’ve got the papers. I’ll look them over and text you when I’m done.
Teresa didn’t want to wait any longer. She quickly said, “It’ll only take a few minutes to check them. If everything’s good, we can move forward with the process.”
Charles hesitated for a moment, then flipped through the divorce papers.
After skimming them, he closed the file and said to Teresa, “This isn’t thorough enough. Let me draft a proper agreement. Don’t worry. Til let you know as soon as it’s ready so you can come sign
Teresa sucked in a shaky breath, her chest so tight it felt like she could barely breathe. Getting married had been so easy, but getting divorced felt like jumping through endless hoops.
She felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her, but she could say nothing. Settling the divorce by agreement was the best choice right now If they went through the courts, it’d just make things take even longer.

Charles tucked the papers under his arm and headed toward Joyacre Villa. After a few steps, he paused and glanced back at Teresa. “Want to come inside?”
Teresa shook her head. “No need.”
Teresa leaned back against the door, knowing there was no point in fighting him, so she just let him.
For some reason, Troy was convinced she wasn’t telling the truth. His gaze was icy and suspicious as he probed, “Did Charles do this to you?
Teresa quickly shook her head “No, it has nothing to do with him.”
Troy’s anger only deepened, his voice dropping even lower. “You’re still covering for him?”
Teresa frowned. I’m not
Seeing her hesitate, Troy let out a bitter laugh. “Teresa, you’re a total liar. I must be the biggest fool for letting you play me all these years I’m just a damn idiot

He was angry, furious even, but all he could do was call her a liar. He wanted to say more, but the only word that came out was liar,
He was scared of hurting her, scared he’d end up regretting it for the rest of his life. When one really cared about someone, that fear
never went away.
One would be afraid of saying something harsh, afraid of doing something stupid, and afraid of just screwing everything up.
Teresa saw how worked up Troy was, her brows knitting together. She looked at him, completely lost–she had no idea what he was talking about.
She thought to herself. When did I ever lie to him?‘
Troy avoided her gaze, his voice hoarse as he asked, “Where’s the first aid kit?”
Teresa replied, “Troy, I can do it myself. You really don’t have to bother.”
Troy felt awful inside. After struggling with himself for a moment,
ent, he reached out and pressed her face to his chest.

“Teresa.” Troy murmured, “sometimes I just wish I could shrink you down and hide you in my pocket, so no one could ever take you away from me.”
