When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 130

Charles’s words were laced with veiled threats.

Teresa caught the meaning instantly, realizing Charles was standing up for Naomi.

Worried that Hector might get caught in the crossfire, Teresa stood up and said to him, “Hector, let’s find another place to eat.”

Charles watched her closely, his cold eyes narrowing as he studied them. A new suspicion began to form in his mind.

‘Is Teresa rushing to get divorced, not because of Troy, but because of Hector?‘ Charles wondered to himself.

These past couple of days, Charles kept trying to guess the real reason for Teresa’s eagerness to get divorced, but he just couldn’t figure out who it was really about.

As Hector rose to his feet, his frosty gaze met Charles’s. “Mr. Logan, since you say this isn’t about the research project, I really have no reason to stick around,” he replied, his tone polite but distant.

With those words, Hector firmly took Teresa by the arm and escorted her out of the restaurant.

Naomi’s eyes were red as she watched Hector walk away. She couldn’t stop herself from thinking, ‘Does Hector really dislike me because of Teresa? But that just doesn’t make sense, does it?‘

Charles turned to Naomi, knowing she must be feeling embarrassed.

. He reached out and gently touched her face, his voice soft and doting. “It’s alright. I’ll handle the research topic for you.”

Naomi felt even more aggrieved. “Charles, I’m sorry. I guess I’m just not clever enough.”

Charles pulled her into a hug, gently patting her back. “Don’t say that. You’re smart, you know.”

Naomi rested her head against Charles’s chest, gradually feeling at ease.

Hector picked another Chinese restaurant, and once they sat down, he asked Teresa to order for them.

After she finished ordering, Teresa looked up at Hector, worry written all over her face. “Hector, Naomi means the world to Charles. He’d never let anything bad happen to her. Maybe you should just let—”

Hector cut her off before she could finish. “Teresa, all I see are two people who don’t know how to behave. I stand by what I said, no regrets. Not everyone is cut out to be a doctor.”

Teresa knew Hector was backing her up, but she couldn’t help but worry about him. Just like Charles said, the higher one climbed, the more dangerous it got.

Hector was right, and Teresa couldn’t really add anything else.

When the waiter brought out their food, Hector dished out some rice for Teresa and passed her the fork.

As they ate, Hector asked, concern in his voice, “The grad school exams are coming up soon. How’s your prep going?”

Teresa nodded. “Yeah, I’m ready.”

She’d already started preparing for the exam before she got pregnant. So now, going over everything again, she didn’t find it too hard.

Hector noticed her confidence and smiled. Then he asked, “So, are you going for a professional degree or a research degree?”

Teresa replied, “Research degree. If everything goes well, I’ll finish my Ph.D. by the time I’m thirty–three. But by then, I’ll probably be an -old lady”

She was joking, but Hector took it seriously. “You’re not old. You’ve always been beautiful.”

When he said that, Teresa looked up at him and noticed his cars were turning red.

Teresa blinked in surprise, teasing, “Hector-

Hector, clearly flustered, hurried to change the subject. “Here, try the fish. They say it’s super fresh.”

Teresa laughed softly. “Thanks, Hector.”

After dinner, they strolled around for a bit before Teresa finally drove home. When she got home, it was still early, so she didn’t bother calling Charles.

Scrolling through her feed, Teresa kept getting Naomi’s account recommended to her, even though she’d already hit not interested. The algorithm just wouldn’t let it go.

Naomi had posted a short video, but she didn’t show Charles’s face–just the lower half of his body. Even with the voiceover, Charles’s voice was still easy to recognize.

“Yeah, it’s for my Ph.D. research topic. Right, I need it soon.” That was definitely Charles talking.

Naomi didn’t even need to flaunt it; Teresa could tell Charles would give her everything she wanted.

Sure, coming up with a Ph.D. topic was tough, but it was not like Hector was the only one who knew how to handle it.

Teresa tapped not interested again, and after scrolling through a couple more videos, her phone buzzed; Charles was calling.

She answered, and Charles said, “I can’t find these certificate.”

Teresa shot up in bed. “How is that possible?”

it.

Barbara heard the commotion and came upstairs to check. Seeing Teresa, she asked with concern, “Mrs. Logan, what are you looking for?

Just as she was about to leave, she heard a car horn outside. A moment later, Charles walked in.

Charles gave her a cold look. “Since we got married, you’ve been running everything at home. Shouldn’t you be the one who keeps the marriage certificate safe?”

Charles just replied, his tone flat, “I only saw the marriage certificate once when we got it. Haven’t seen it since.”

Teresa felt exhausted, both body and soul. This divorce was seriously making her head hurt. She was at a loss. “So what do we do now?”

Charles glanced at her anxious face and couldn’t help but joke, “Why don’t we just get married again? Then we can go get divorced all

over.”

Teresa didn’t crack a smile. “Try to remember. If you really can’t, we’ll just have to apply for a new one.”

Charles grunted, then pulled out a cigarette and lit it. As he lowered his head, Teresa caught sight of a red mark on his neck. It was impossible to ignore.

Teresa’s chest tightened. She couldn’t help but wonder, ‘He said he’d be late. Was he with Naomi in bed this whole time?‘

Charles took a drag from his cigarette and glanced at Teresa. “Other than you and me, only Barbara’s been here at Brocade Villa-”

Teresa cut him off before he could finish. “No, your mom’s been here, too.”

Charles paused, then said, “I’ll ask her.”

Teresa thought, ‘Even if it sounded crazy, you never know.

Charles called up Roselyn and asked her if she’d seen the marriage certificate.

Roselyn sounded pissed. “Seriously? What would I even want to steal from you guys? Your marriage certificate? Charles, are you crazy or something?”

Charles got chewed out and hung up.

Teresa overheard Roselyn yelling and said to Charles, “Guess we’ll just have to get a replacement.”

Charles nodded. “Yeah.”

Teresa stepped around Charles and headed for the door, but before she reached it, he called out, “Wait, Teresa.”

“What is it?” she said.

Charles turned and came over, looking down at her, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Why do you suddenly want to divorce me?”
