When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 132

Chapter 132

The next morning, Teresa finished her early shift. Wendy swung by to pick her up and whisked her off to get styled. With time running short, the makeup artist kept things simple.

Wendy chose a white, strapless, body–hugging gown for Teresa. The dress flowed all the way down, covering her long legs, but the top showed off just enough to turn heads.

Even after giving birth, Teresa’s figure was still stunning; her curves were killer, and her waist was so sexy.

Once Teresa was all dolled up–makeup flawless, heels on–Wendy couldn’t help but stare.

“Teresa, you’re a total knockout. Charles has no idea how lucky he is,” Wendy hooked her arm through Teresa’s and joked.

Teresa gazed at her reflection in the mirror, finding herself a little dazed.

Five years of marriage, and Charles had never taken her to any parties or galas. She’d hardly ever gone all out like this.

Every day makeup was nothing like the look she had tonight. Wrapped in her long dress, hair cascading down her back, her gentle charm just radiated.

When they arrived at the event venue, it was already buzzing with people.

Tonight’s event had it all–a fashion show, a dance floor, a lounge for business chats, and a kids‘ zone with snacks and fun activities.

As soon as Teresa and Wendy stepped inside, they spotted Charles in a sharp black suit, with Naomi by his side in a fiery red short dress that turned heads.

Naomi had her arm linked with Charles’s as they made their way upstairs, probably to talk business with someone. Down in the snack area, two kids were hanging out and chatting.

The little boy leaned over and asked, “Hey, is that pretty lady in the red dress your mom?”

Yolanda was the little girl, and since both kids had their backs to the door, they didn’t notice Teresa and Wendy coming in.

Yolanda thought for a second, then replied honestly, “Nope, that’s my dad’s friend.”

The boy blinked in surprise. Wow, really? You guys must be really tight.”

Yolanda took a bite of her cupcake, swung her legs, and tilted her chin up proudly. But she’s just like my mom, maybe even better than my mom.”

The boy blurted out, curious, “So what about your mom? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her pick you up from school. Did your mom pass away?

Yolanda paused, her cupcake halfway to her mouth, then murmured, “Sort of.”

Behind them, Teresa and Wendy caught every word the kids said.

Teresa felt a little sad hearing Yolanda say that about her, but she wasn’t upset.

Wendy, though, couldn’t help herself and called out loudly, “Yolanda?

Yolanda turned around and saw Teresa and Wendy. She quickly looked away, a bit sheepish, but didn’t say anything.

After Yolanda was born, Teresa took it upon herself to make Wendy her godmother.

Wendy might be a hopeless romantic, but when it came to caring for Yolanda, she was always all in–never half–hearted.

Back then, Yolanda was close to Teresa and was especially fond of Wendy. But now, she wouldn’t even greet Wendy anymore.

The little boy turned to look, too. Seeing Yolanda not say anything, he said, “Yolanda, why aren’t you saying hi? Miss Taylor always says we should be polite and greet people when we’re out.”

Yolanda’s cheeks turned red. She jumped off her stool and yelled at him. “It’s none of your business.”

With that, she pinched the boy and took off running. The boy yelped in pain and burst into tears.

Teresa let out a helpless sigh. “Do you really think she’d listen to me?

Just then, a waiter came over to Wendy. “Hello, Miss, the group is waiting for you upstairs.

Wendy nodded. “Alright, I know.

She turned to Teresa. “Teresa, I’ve got a meeting upstairs about a partnership. I’ll be back soon. Just wait in the lobby and have something to eat.”

Once Wendy headed upstairs, Teresa made her way over to the little boy, who was still sniffling. She crouched down, gently wiped his tears with a tissue, and coaxed, “Come on, tough guys don’t cry, right?”

The boy was still a little shaky, but the tears had stopped. He looked up at Teresa and said sweetly, “Wow, Miss, you’re so pretty–way prettier than the lady in the red dress.”

Teresa’s heart skipped a beat, but she felt a warm glow inside. She never thought a kid would say she was prettier than Naomi.

She gently patted his head and said, “Thank you.”

The little boy stretched out his arms, eyes still red. “Miss, can I get a hug?

Teresa was a mom, after all; she couldn’t say no to those hopeful eyes. She scooped him up, sat down, and settled him on her lap.

“How about I apologize for that little girl pinching you, okay?she said gently.

The boy blinked his big, round eyes. No, Miss, it’s not your fault. When I go back to school, I’ll tell Ms. Taylor, and she will talk to her about it.”

Teresa chuckled softly, “Alright, we’ll do it your way.”

Yolanda might not listen to her, but she had listened to the teacher.

The little boy tilted his head and asked earnestly, “Miss, can I add you on social media?

Before Teresa could say anything, a sudden buzz broke out at the entrance. She glanced over and saw Troy walking in with a woman, people flocking around them.

It was the same woman who’d been in Troy’s passenger seat last night. Today, she was dressed in a long dress, sporting an emerald bracelet, her hair half–up and half–down. Her high heels made her long, straight legs look even more striking.

Her figure was like a character straight out of a video game–curves where one wanted them, slim everywhere else.

With her arm hooked through Troy’s, they entered the hall together, surrounded by admirers. Their entrance had plenty of women eyeing them with envy.

From the moment Troy walked in, he spotted Teresa with a little boy in her arms. He frowned a little.

But he quickly looked away, making small talk with the people trying to butter him up–but it was obvious he couldn’t care less.

People raised their glasses, sneaking glances at the woman with Troy. “Mr. Hamilton, who’s the beauty you brought tonight?”

Troy grinned, his eyes full of meaning, and replied, “She’s the woman who’s always right by my side, every single day.”
