When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 185

Chapter 185

When Teresa spoke up, but didn’t ask Troy to let go, his chest tightened with sudden pain–almost like he was crushed from the inside.

He gave a relieved smile, pushing himself up from the hospital bed. “Let me carry you,” he murmured gently.

Teresa felt sticky and gross, her whole body uncomfortable. Hearing Troy’s words, she couldn’t help but think to herself, ‘Will he think I smell awful?‘—a wave of embarrassment washing over her.

She hesitated before answering, a touch of resistance in her voice. “Troy, it’s just a fever. I can manage on my own.”

As soon as she said that, the smile that had just lit up Troy’s eyes disappeared completely.

Seeing him like that, Teresa started to explain, but before she could say anything, Troy had already gotten out of bed. He lifted the blanket off her and scooped her up in his arms.

He looked down at her, his gaze sharp and possessive. “I’m carrying you, Teresa. Don’t even think you can get away from me.”

Teresa didn’t have the strength to fight back, let alone yell at him. She had no choice but to just let him do it.

Troy carried her into the bathroom, setting her gently onto the mat. Then he went back to the bed to fetch her shoes.

Once he brought the shoes over, he knelt down and slipped her feet into them one by one.

After making sure her shoes were on, Troy stood up and said, “Go on, do what you need to do. I won’t peek. I’ll stay right here for you.”

He turned his back to Teresa, standing ramrod straight.

Feeling a bit awkward with him standing so close by, Teresa murmured, “Troy, could you wait outside for me?”

Troy hesitated, then nodded. “Alright, I’ll wait right outside. Just let me know when you’re done.”

With that, he stepped out of the bathroom.

Teresa noticed his shadow through the door–Troy really was out there waiting for her.

By now, Teresa’s fever had broken, and her mind was starting to clear up.

She stared up at the ceiling, while Troy was watching her.

Feeling his gaze on her, Teresa turned her head to look at him. In a soft voice, she asked, “Do I smell bad?

Troy blinked, caught off guard by her question. He paused for a moment before answering, “No, not at all.” Teresa didn’t believe him. You’re lying.”

Troy got visibly anxious, blurting out, “Honestly, you really don’t smell at all!”

Seeing how desperate he was to make her believe it, Teresa furrowed her brows, searching his face for any sign of a lie.

But she just couldn’t get a read on him–he was impossible to understand.

In the end, Teresa turned her gaze away and just went back to staring at the ceiling.

Just then, Troy’s phone started ringing.

The room was silent, and Teresa heard a man’s voice through the phone. “Mr. Hamilton, I brought what you asked for. Should I bring it up now?”

Troy replied, “Yeah.”

The guy asked, “Which room should I bring it to?”

“Just call me when you get here, I’ll come out and get it,” Troy said.

After the brief exchange, Troy hung up.

Not long after, his phone rang again.

He got up and left the room, returning in less than two minutes.

He came back holding a bag with an insulated food container inside.

Teresa realized Troy had someone bring her something to eat.

He unpacked the little containers one after another, laying out an impressive lunch–savory meat broth, fresh veggies, rice wrapped in lettuce leaves, bite–sized steamed buns, and even some big, juicy shrimp.

Troy tucked a pillow behind Teresa’s back so she could lean comfortably, then picked up a small bowl and started feeding her, one spoonful at a time.

Teresa was way too hungry to put up a fight, so she simply let Troy take care of her.

The meal totally hit the spot. Teresa dug in, genuinely enjoying every bite and feeling completely content.

When they were halfway through, Troy finally asked, “Does it taste good?”

Teresa nodded, her voice sincere. “Yeah, it’s really good.”

Hearing that, Troy leisurely peeled another shrimp, arching his brow with a smile. “Since you love it so much, why not come over to my place next time? My mom will whip up even more dishes you’ll love.”

Teresa still had shrimp in her mouth when she heard that, and instinctively started coughing, caught off guard.

She was definitely choking–her face flushed, eyes watering as she struggled for breath.

Seeing her like that, Troy quickly set down the shrimp and handed her a glass of water, watching her take a sip. As she recovered, he spoke softly, “My mom prepared all of tonight’s food with a lot of thought and care.”

After taking a sip of water, Teresa felt the tightness in her chest ease a little. She glanced over at Troy, lips parting as if to say something

but in the end, the words just wouldn’t come. She had no idea how to even start.

When she kept silent, Troy just gave her a gentle smile. “Hey, why so quiet all of a sudden?” he asked softly,

Teresa swallowed, hesitant, her voice barely more than a whisper. “You know I’m still not divorced from Charles. And I have a kid. Troy, why are you putting me in such a hopeless position?”

Troy frowned, looking her straight in the eye. “I’ve already made it clear to my family–when it comes to who I want to marry, no one can stop me. They can give me their blessing or just stay out of my life for good. Besides, my mom isn’t anything like Roselyn, and I— I’m nothing like Charles. Not even close.

His words left Teresa momentarily stunned, her mind going blank as she tried to process what he’d just said.

Once upon a time, she’d actually wished Charles would say those words to her.

But now, she was no longer the Teresa she used to be.

Troy’s smooth words couldn’t pull the wool over her eyes anymore.

Teresa turned to look at him, her tone steady and honest. “What is it you really want from me, Troy? You can just come out and say it. If I can offer it, I will. But if it’s something I don’t have, there’s no need for you to waste your time sticking around me.”

Troy met her gaze, only to find her face completely indifferent, ice–cold.

After a brief silence, Troy finally asked, “Would you really give me what I want?”

Teresa picked up on the deeper implication behind his words, so instead of responding, she kept quiet.

When she stayed silent, Troy handed her the peeled shrimp and said, “My mom’s prepared so much just for you. When you get a chance, I really want to take you to meet her. Trust me, my mom’s amazing. And I am too.”

He made sure to put extra emphasis on those last three words.
