Chapter 186
。
Teresa could tell that Troy was genuinely eager to prove he was doing fine.
But she honestly didn’t know what to say, so she just kept quiet.

Troy didn’t try to force anything. He knew Teresa still found it hard to trust people, and with her being unwell, it wasn’t right to put her on the spot like that.
So he let the matter drop.
After making sure Teresa finished her meal, Troy poured her a cup of hot water and patiently watched over her, insisting she drank every last drop.
But not long after she finished the water, Teresa started running a fever again.
Troy gave her some medicine for the fever, and soon she drifted off to sleep.
That entire night, Troy didn’t sleep a wink.
He stayed right by her bedside, wiping the sweat from her forehead, covering and uncovering her with the blanket, tending to her every need.
Not until the sky turned pale at dawn did Troy finally nod off at Teresa’s bedside, her hand still in his, slumped over the mattress from sheer exhaustion.
Being so tall, sleeping hunched over the bed was far from comfortable, but fatigue overtook him, and he passed out almost instantly.

Half–awake, Teresa sensed someone gripping her hand with almost crushing force, as if afraid she might disappear at any
Wincing from the pressure, she opened her eyes and saw Troy slumped at her bedside, holding her hand tight- like he were terrified she’d slip away if he let go.

She tried to move her hand, but Troy didn’t wake. Instead, he unconsciously shifted even closer, so near that if she leaned down just a little, their faces would almost touch.
She lowered her gaze, taking in every detail of Troy’s face–his straight nose, defined features, long lashes, and perfectly arched brows.
Who knew how many girls had lost their hearts to a face like his?
Yet despite all the rumors about Troy’s reputation, here he was–sitting by her hospital bed, looking after her with unwavering care.
‘How could I not have questions?‘ Teresa wondered, uncertainty swirling in her chest
A guy like Troy–he could be lacking in a lot of things, but women? That’s the last thing he’d ever run short of.
But all these things he was doing for her? They were as real as it gets, no pretending.
Teresa wasn’t made of stone. Even if Troy was just putting on an act, even if he had his own motives, everything he did for her was on a whole other level—like, one–in–a–million kind of
rare,
He could’ve easily kept his chin up, walked around all proud. Instead, he bent down just to help her put on her shoes. He could be sharing his bed with someone way prettier and hotter, yet here he was, holding her close–even if she was all sticky and a mess.
With all these thoughts swirling in Teresa’s mind, her heart couldn’t help but be moved.
She looked at Troy’s face, an overwhelming mix of emotions welled up inside her,
Suddenly, Teresa’s phone buzzed on the nightstand, lighting up the whole corner of the room.
She shook off thoughts of Troy and reached for her phone—it was a message from Charles.
Charles: “Come over to the hospital and look after Yolanda during the day. I’ve got a company meeting to attend.”

Teresa just sat there holding her phone for what felt like forever, her grip growing tight. She didn’t reply.
Yolanda might be sick, but did she ever really need someone like me as her mom?
Teresa didn’t bother to reply; taking care of Yolanda was the last thing on her mind.
She switched her phone to silent and tossed it right back onto the nightstand.
Troy looked so peaceful as he slept, and Teresa just couldn’t bring herself to wake him. She let him keep holding her hand, letting him rest as long as he needed.
At eight in the morning, the door to the hospital room creaked open, and Yvonne stepped inside.
The sound of the door woke Troy, and he opened his bloodshot eyes.
Yvonne noticed she’d disturbed Troy’s rest, and with a touch of embarrassment, she apologized. “I hope I didn’t bother you by coming over without asking Teresa first.”
Troy stood up, not the least bit upset. Instead, he smiled warmly and said, “You really don’t have to be so polite, Yvonne.”
Yvonne came in carrying a breakfast box. She set it down on the nightstand and turned to Troy, her tone gentle. “Sorry for making you go through so much last night. Thanks for staying up with her.”
Troy gave her a wide grin. “Don’t mention it, Yvonne. Looking after Teresa just feels like the right thing to do. And since you trusted me with the opportunity, I’m not about to let it slip by.”
Yvonne glanced at Troy, then over at Teresa.
As long as he could stay close to Teresa, nothing else mattered; he’d happily
Teresa lay quietly in the hospital bed with a complicated look on her face, lost in thought.
Yvonne walked over and gently felt Teresa’s forehead. Sensing she wasn’t feverish anymore, Yvonne quietly asked, “How about I come spend tonight with you?“,
She’d barely woken up when the nurse came in to hook her up to an IV drip.
The room was completely empty–no one there but Yolanda herself.
After hooking up the IV, the nurse glanced at Yolanda with a puzzled smile. “Honey, can you tell me where your mom went?”
Yolanda pouted and snapped back, “I only have an aunt. I don’t have a mom.”

Seeing Yolanda’s fierce little glare, the nurse quickly dropped the subject.
It hadn’t been long since the IV was hooked up, and Yolanda’s fever shot right back up again.
The nurse rushed to grab some fever medicine for
her.

But even after she took it, Yolanda still looked really unwell.
The nurse started to get anxious and went to consult the doctor. The doctor just waved it off, saying, “Relax, it’s normal for a flu fever to stick around for three days. She’ll be fine.”
But the nurse was still worried about Yolanda being all alone, so she kept a close eye on her.
If her fever didn’t go away, fine–but the moment the nurse checked her temperature again, it had actually gotten even higher.
Now clearly anxious, the nurse crouched down beside Yolanda and said, “Hey kiddo, can you tell me your mom’s phone number, please?”
Yolanda was already so out of it she could barely keep her eyes open, but somehow she blurted out a string of numbers as best she
could.
The nurse jotted the number down and then dialed it right away.
But the phone just kept ringing–no one picked up.

Still uneasy, the nurse sent a message: “This is the hospital. Yolanda Logan’s fever hasn’t gone down. Please have a family member come to the hospital to look after her as soon as possible.”
But after the message was sent, it was like dropping a stone into the sea–no reply, nothing at all.

The nurse put her phone away and turned back to Yolanda, only find her out cold.
Panicking, the nurse hit the emergency button.
In no time, Yolanda was wheeled straight into the kids‘ emergency room,
