Inside the elevator, Yvonne overheard Naomi cursing. She couldn’t care less, though. Her attention was fully on Teresa.

}

Having worked in the modeling industry, Yvonne had developed a thick skin. If she couldn’t handle a few insults, she wouldn’t have lasted long.

Honestly, Naomi’s little drama didn’t even register on Yvonne’s radar–it was nothing compared to the stuff she’d dealt with before.

She’d heard way worse and seen nastier people than Naomi.

Troy held Teresa tightly, his heart pounding in panic; when he saw blood on her face, he felt even more terrified.

Her face was pressed against his chest, and her eyes were already closed.

“Teresa, don’t fall asleep, you mustn’t fall asleep! Look at me- please, I’m begging you, look at me!” Troy pleaded.

Troy lowered his head, gently rubbing his face against Teresa’s..

He was on the verge of losing his mind, terrified that Teresa might never open her eyes again.

He’d waited so long, for this chance, and he couldn’t bear to lose her again.

“Don’t sleep, Teresa. I won’t try to be your boyfriend anymore, and I won’t force you to marry me, either. If you want to love Charles, then go ahead–just please, please wake up. I promise, as long as you get better, I’ll never push you again,” Troy pleaded, his voice trembling as he buried his face in the crook of her neck.

He was sobbing so hard that he could barely hear his own words.

Seeing Troy like this, Yvonne felt a pang of sympathy. She reached be fine. Don’t worry too much.”

her close.

But Troy barely registered Yvonne’s words; his quiet sobbing filled the air.

When the elevator reached the first floor, Troy carried Teresa into the Emergency Department, holding

After the doctors checked her over, they assured everyone that Teresa was okay and would wake up soon.

Even with the doctors‘ reassurance, Troy was so anxious he just kept pacing the hallway, heart aching,

All down the Emergency Department corridor, it was Troy’s restless figure moving back and forth.

Finally, a nurse came out and said, “Mr. Hamilton, she’s awake.”

As soon as Troy heard that, he rushed into the room like an arrow.

Teresa had just come to, still a little woozy.

Troy burst in, not caring about anything else. He practically yanked her into his arms, clutching her so tight his voice shook with fear and desperation right by her ear. “Teresa, please don’t ever make yourself sick again, okay? I’m really scared–terrified,” Troy pleaded, voice trembling.

As he spoke, tears streamed down his face.

Teresa felt something warm and wet by her cheek–it was Troy’s tears, falling silently onto her skin.

As Teresa gradually regained her senses, memories of what had just happened started to come back to her.

She’d always thought Troy’s kindness was just an act, but right now, she could really feel how scared he was. Is he really that afraid of losing me?‘

‘If he didn’t truly care about me, how could he possibly cry like this?‘ she wondered, startled by his tears.

Teresa stiffened for a few seconds, awkward and at a loss, but when she saw Troy was still sobbing uncontrollably, her heart softened. She gently lifted her hand and patted him on the back. “Troy, it’s just a cold, not some life–threatening illness. Come on… stop crying, will you?

But instead of letting go, Troy just held her even tighter. “Teresa, forget what I said earlier–I still want to be your lover.”

Teresa couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Troy, I’m a woman. How are you going to be my lover?”

When he heard her, Troy finally let her go, gazing seriously into her eyes. “Let me be your lover. I’ll help you with your shoes, wash your underwear, warm your bed, cook for you, serve you soup, bring you water–whatever you want, I’ll do it. As long as you let me stay by your side, I’d do anything for you.”

Teresa was moved by his words–no matter if it was real or not, she still felt touched.

Her eyes grew red, and she turned her head away, whispering, “Why would you want to do all these things that someone like you isn’t supposed to do?”

Troy put Teresa’s hand right over his heart. “Because I like you. I’ve liked you for so long. Back when you were marrying Charles, I asked you to be with me–I wasn’t just messing around. I meant every word. I really do like you.”

Teresa could feel his heartbeat thundering against her palm.

Her cheeks turned pink as she tried to pull her hand away, but Troy kept it pressed firmly to his chest. “Do you feel that?” he asked, voice low and intense.

Teresa’s face grew even hotter. “Troy, let me go, okay?”

But Troy wouldn’t let her. He guided her hand down to his waist, and with his other arm, he gripped her tightly by the waist and pulled her hard into his embrace.

Then he leaned in, finally letting go of all restraint. He closed his eyes and crushed his lips to hers.

Teresa sagged into his chest, her cheeks scorching hot, her whole face about to combust from the heat and embarrassment.

Even if his feelings weren’t real, at least Teresa could say she’d experienced what it was like to be loved by him.

She closed her eyes, feeling as helpless as a lamb at the mercy of the butcher, completely powerless to fight back.

When Troy finally let her go, he gazed down, drinking in every detail of her face, as if committing her features to memory.

Teresa didn’t answer his question, and Troy didn’t push her for one. Instead, he leaned in, nibbled softly at her ear as he murmured,

Meanwhile, after venting at Yvonne, Naomi took a moment to steady herself before heading for her department.

She’d been tied up with research all day, so much that she hadn’t even glanced at her phone once.

It was only when she left the lab that evening that she finally saw a message: “Yolanda’s fever won’t go away. Family members, please come to the hospital as soon as possible to help care for her.”

The message had been sent that morning, but Naomi was only seeing it now.

Even though Yolanda wasn’t Naomi’s own daughter, she was still Charles’s little girl. And for Naomi, anything that concerned Charles mattered to her too. ‘No matter what, this is about Charles–how could I just ignore it? she thought.

That’s why the moment Naomi walked out of the lab, she hurried straight over to the hospital without a second thought,

When she arrived at the department, she spotted Charles from afar, slumped on a bench, looking completely lost. Something heavy was clearly weighing on his mind his whole vibe was tangled and tense.

She walked over and quietly sat down beside him, reaching out to hold his hand. “How’s Yolanda doing?” Naomi asked softly, her eyes filled with concern.

At the sound of her voice, Charles finally came back to himself. “She’s okay now. Nothing serious, but the doctors want to keep her under observation for the night,” he replied, his voice tired but relieved.

Naomi caught just how tired Charles looked and offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry I got here so late,” she said softly.

Charles gave her a little shake of his head. “No worries. I know your research keeps you busy!”

Naomi edged closer until their shoulders touched. “Charles, rest on me for a while–you’ve gotta

be so

tired.”

Truth was, Charles was completely wiped out. He hadn’t caught a wink of sleep last night, work had him running all day, and he’d spent the whole afternoon at the hospital.

And that argument with Teresa earlier just left him feeling even more drained.

When Naorni said that, Charles didn’t hesitate–he simply tilted his head and rested it on her shoulder.

Naomi reached out and gently stroked his hair, her voice barely above a whisper. “Get some sleep.”

Charles’s tense body finally loosened up. “Okay,” he murmured.

He closed his eyes, surrendering to his exhaustion.

Naomi sat quietly on the bench with Charles leaning on her, yet for some reason, she found herself thinking about Troy.

Troy once called me the girl of his dreams, so why does he treat Teresa with so much care? Why does she get the tenderness I thought was meant for me?‘ Naomi wondered, her mind unsettled by the thought.
