When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191

After all Troy’s antics, Teresa was so exhausted she didn’t have the strength to argue with him.

>

When Troy said he was her lover, Teresa was too tired to even correct him–she just let it slide, not caring anymore.

Still running a fever, Teresa felt weak and completely drained.

When the exhaustion finally overwhelmed her, she slipped into sleep once again.

But when she opened her eyes again, Teresa saw Yvonne’s face.

Yvonne had already washed off her makeup, so while she didn’t look as striking as she usually did, her flawless skin and natural charm still made it hard to look away.

Seeing Yvonne, Teresa couldn’t help but think of Yolanda. With red–rimmed eyes, she asked, “Yvonne, how’s Yolanda?”

Yvonne tucked the blanket snugly around Teresa and said, “Mr. Hamilton went to ask about her–her condition is stable now, so try not to worry.”

Hearing this, Teresa finally felt a bit more at ease. She nodded and said, “Yeah, I know.”

Yvonne gently wiped the sweat off Teresa’s forehead with a tissue, her voice soft. “Troy’s already headed home. I’ll be staying with you tonight.”

Thinking of Troy, Teresa zoned out for a moment.

But really, he was a trust–fund kid. Like he’d ever do something so humiliating for a guy.

Warming up the bed? Washing her laundry?

She knew not to take those words too seriously.

After taking her fever meds, Teresa was sweating up a storm, her skin damp and clammy. She snuggled under her blankets, figuring that if she sweated it out, she’d probably be back to her old, lively self by morning.

Before Teresa drifted off, Yvonne was perched right beside her, calmly flipping through a stack of magazines, quietly keeping her company as the night wore on.

In the dead of night, Teresa was jolted awake by the cold.

She opened her eyes and instinctively shuddered.

Right then, a gentle voice drifted to her ear, “Cold?”

It was Troy.

For a second, Teresa thought she must be imagining things–but when she turned her head, Troy’s face was really there, staring back at

her.

Teresa blinked in confusion. “Why are you back again?”

Troy tucked her in with a playful grin. “I’m your lover, aren’t I? Of course wherever your are is where I should be.”

Teresa frowned, brows drawn tight–obviously annoyed.

Noticing her reaction, Troy rushed to explain, “I forgot to tell Yvonne I was just going home to take a shower. I never said I wasn’t coming back. She had Monica to look after anyway, so I told her to head home. You… you’re not mad at me, are you?”

Teresa met his worried gaze, and despite herself, felt a pang of guilt. Her tone softened as she said, “Troy, thank you.”

Troy immediately broke into a wide grin. Sensing she was chilly, he teased, “Well, how about I climb in and keep you warın?

He was just living up to his role as her so–called lover.

But the moment Teresa heard that, her cheeks turned crimson. She blurted out, flustered, “No, I’m not cold.”

Seeing her turn him down, Troy didn’t insist. “Alright, get some sleep. I’ll just lie here by your bedside. If you get cold, just holler, and 1 be right there.”

Teresa didn’t say anything back. She just stared

at

him blankly.

Oddly enough, even after getting rejected, Troy seemed pretty happy about it.

He lay down by the side of the bed, grinned to himself a couple of times, and then drifted off to sleep.

But Troy was tall, and hunched over by the hospital bed, his long legs awkwardly tucked in, barely fitting there. No way could he get ar real rest like that.

Teresa had already dozed off twice, but now sleep just wouldn’t come.

She glanced over at Troy, his handsome face turned toward her.

She could really take in his good looks, but right now, his brow was scrunched up in discomfort.

Noticing he couldn’t get comfortable, Teresa gently nudged his shoulder and softly called his name, “Troy.”

Teresa had no idea how long she’d been lying there, still wide awake.

He brought his lips to her ear, nibbling at the tip as he murmured, “Are you thinking about Yolanda?”

Teresa flinched a little at the ticklish feeling on her ear, pulling away just a bit before replying softly, “No, I’m not worried about anyone.” Troy could see right through her, so he said gently, “If you really want to see Yolanda, let’s just go. I’ll go with you.”

When they finally got to the pediatric ward, Teresa spotted Charles from afar, leaning straight into Naomi’s shoulder, looking totally wiped out.

She automatically paused for a second, and Troy stopped with her, both of them just standing there.

Teresa didn’t go up to Charles and Naomi–she headed straight to the doctor’s office instead, not wasting a single second,

‘I still don’t really know what’s up with Yolanda, Teresa thought, her heart all knotted up. ‘Only when the doctor tells me herself that Yolanda’s okay, can I finally breathe easy.

Once she got into the office, the doctor on duty gave her the rundown on how Yolanda was doing.

Since Teresa was a doctor too, she immediately got what the doctor meant.

But it wasn’t until she heard it from the doctor herself that Teresa’s nerves finally settled.

As she left the office, Teresa couldn’t help but glance over at Charles again.

He was still resting his head on Naomi’s shoulder, looking completely drained.

They were facing away from Teresa, their bodies pressed close together, looking all cozy and affectionate.

Troy could see how upset Teresa was, so he stepped up and, without waiting for her permission, scooped her right into his arms.

Lowering his head, he gazed at her and said softly, “Baby, if you’ll let me, I’d love to be the man you lean on, too.”

Teresa met his gaze, but kept silent.

All the commotion over here caught Naomi’s attention, and she instinctively glanced over.

But all she caught was Troy’s retreating figure as he carried Teresa away, their backs vanishing from sight.

She’d overheard pretty much everything Troy had said to Teresa–though the words were muffled, she got the gist. Naomi couldn’t shake the feeling that Troy had said those words on purpose, making sure she heard every single He probably saw me with Charles and got all jealous,‘ she thought, a little amused.

Naomi figured she should set aside some time to clear things up with Troy.
