When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 201

Chapter 201

When Teresa left the room, no one tried to stop her.

Jason hated her, Ava resented her, and Yolanda didn’t need her…

Teresa thought to herself, ‘I guess it’s only natural. I’ve always been the odd one out.’

When Teresa got back to her own room, she caught the doctor making his rounds.

The doctor told her that her condition wasn’t serious and that they’d already been considering discharging her.

Even if the doctor hadn’t said anything, Teresa had already decided she was leaving the hospital today.

That afternoon, Yvonne came over and ran around handling everything for Teresa’s discharge.

By the time everything was sorted out, it was already past five.

Once all the errands were done, Yvonne took Teresa home to the Sullivan Mansion.

As soon as they stepped into the main hall of the Sullivan Mansion, Teresa immediately noticed Hector sitting very upright and proper on the sofa.

He looked tense and uneasy, clutching his teacup and taking small, anxious sips one after another.

When he saw Teresa and Yvonne walk in, he quickly got up from the sofa and greeted them, “Yvonne, Teresa, you’re back.

Yvonne was briefly taken aback to see Hector there but quickly offered a polite smile. “Hello, Dr. Reed.”

The tips of Hector’s ears flushed pink–a clear giveaway that he was embarrassed.

Teresa saw Hector was feeling awkward, so she walked over with a soft smile. “Come on, Hector, relax and sit down,” she said, trying to ease hirn.

Yvonne picked up on the vibe that the two needed some space, so she tactfully slipped away and went upstairs.

When Hector saw Teresa looking so thin, it felt like something twisted painfully inside him.

Teresa passed Hector a handful of dried fruit as she replied, “I’ve been running a fever the past couple of days, so I couldn’t make it to the hospital.”

Hearing that, Hector immediately reached out to check her forehead, then compared it with his own, just to make sure.

Once he was sure Teresa didn’t have a fever, he asked with concern, “Are you feeling any better today?”

Teresa nodded and smiled. “Yeah, I’m feeling much better now.”

Hector listened to her words in silence.

She darted into Teresa’s arms, her face streaked with both tears and laughter.

Teresa hugged Monica tightly, a wave of bittersweet emotion stinging her nose.

In that moment, she couldn’t help but think of Yolanda.

After their hug, Monica plopped right down on Teresa’s lap, the two of them sitting faceto–face

Monica reached out, absentmindedly playing with Teresa’s hair as she chattered, “Aunt Teresa, Mr. Reed brought so, so many presents! He got Grandpa wine and supplements, Grandma a cheongsam and some fancy skincare stuff, a tie for Dad, a watch for Mom, and there’s this giant box with your name on it…”

At that, Monica scooted closer and whispered secretively into Teresa’s ear, “Aunt Teresa, I snuck a peek—there’s all kinds of yummy snacks, drinks, a game console, and even some cute accessories!”

Then Monica straightened up, grinning from ear to ear. “He even got me presents too–so much chocolate, and tons of Barbie dolls!”

Teresa looked at Monica, charmed by how sweet and adorable she was. She couldn’t resist reaching out and brushing Monica’s nose with her finger, saying, “You little rascal.”

Monica let out a couple of giggles and said, “Then I’m going upstairs to play with my Barbies, Aunt Teresa!”

After dinner, Hector stayed and chatted with the Sullivans for a while longer.

But as it was getting late, he figured it would be inappropriate to linger any longer.

So, he stood up and politely said goodbye to everyone, one by one.

After Hector said his goodbyes, Theodore Sullivan suddenly instructed, “Teresa, go see Mr. Reed out.”

Teresa could tell Theodore’s words carried more meaning, but she had no choice but to go along with it. “Alright,” she replied obediently.

They walked in silence all the way as Teresa escorted Hector to the front gate.

Only when they reached the entrance did Hector finally turn to her and gently ask, “Are you alright?”

There was uncertainty in Teresa’s eyes, but she still nodded. “Yeah, I’m okay,” she replied.

There was a complicated look in Hector’s eyes, and more than once he opened his mouth to speak, but stopped himself at the last second.

He thought to himself, ‘Teresa isn’t divorced yet. It’s really not my place to say anything right now–it’d just make things harder for her?

So he figured, ‘Once she gets divorced, then I’ll talk to her about it.‘

Since Hector had been drinking, he couldn’t drive himself home. Conveniently, a taxi stopped nearby. Still, he lingered for a moment, visibly unwilling to part, and looked back at Teresa with a gentle, reluctant smile. “Alright, I’m heading home,” he said softly.

Teresa just nodded, her voice quiet. “Okay.”

Hector had one foot in the taxi, but suddenly straightened and turned back to Teresa, his voice hesitant. “Teresa, the truth is, I-”

He had words burning inside him, things he couldn’t hold back anymore–but fate just never seemed to give him the chance to say them.

Hector barely got a word out before a booming voice cut him off. “Teresa, Grandpa’s over at Joyacre Villa. I’m here to take you back for dinner.”

Right then, Charles’s eye–catching Rolls Royce glided to a stop behind the taxi.

The driver’s window slid down, and there was Charles, his chiseled features cast in high contrast.

Light and shadow tangled over his face, and just by tilting his head against the car, his presence alone dominated the entire entrance.
