When She Walks Away (Teresa) novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202

When Charles said Richard had gone to Joyacre Villa, Teresa instinctively tensed up inside.

After a moment’s thought, she said helplessly, “I know.”

Then, looking over at Hector standing by the taxi, she said, “You should head home first. Next time, dinner’s on me.”

Hector gave her a faint smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. He nodded, saying, “Alright, I’ll be waiting.”

Teresa gave him a quick smile before getting into Charles’s car.

By the time they got back to Joyacre Villa, it was already past eight in the evening.

Richard was perched on the sofa, his hand resting on that signature dragon–headed cane of his. Even dressed in casual clothes, he radiated an unmistakable air of authority.

When he caught sight of Teresa and Charles coming home together, the corners of Richard’s mouth finally softened into a rare, faint smile.

But as they approached, his face darkened again, and he grumbled, “Back so late–where exactly have you been?

Teresa answered evenly, “Grandpa, I just went back to visit my parents.”

Richard said gravely, concern etched on his face. “Yolanda still looks so fragile. You really ought to spend more time with her these days.”

Teresa just nodded, “Alright.”

That afternoon, both Teresa and Yolanda were discharged from the hospital at the same time.

Teresa didn’t feel like explaining anything, and honestly, she couldn’t care less about what Richard thought.

Besides, in twenty days, she’d have nothing more to do with the Logan family anyway.

So now, whatever Richard wanted, Teresa just nodded along and agreed to it.

Seeing Teresa acting so obedient, Richard finally looked pleased and gave a satisfied smile.

Parked at the sofa by the coffee table, Ava was snacking on fruit and watching TV.

When Richard came in, Ava was catching some sleep in her room.

She’d just woken up before this.

Ava had never met Richard before and was totally tuned out from whatever was being said over there.

But Richard saw everything she did, clear as day.

Seeing Ava dressed so simply, Richard immediately assumed she was just a maid at Joyacre Villa.

So, he couldn’t resist sneering, “What now? Do the staff at Joyacre Villa get to act as equals with the Logan family these days?

Richard made no attempt to disguise his disdain, bluntly directing his words at Ava.

When Ava heard herself being addressed, she turned around. Looking at Richard, dressed impeccably and exuding an unmistakable air of authority, she couldn’t help but feel a wave of anxiety rise in her chest.

At that moment, she also saw Teresa and Charles standing there obediently. There was no doubt the only one who could make the two of them act like that was an elder from the Logan family.

From his age, Ava guessed this had to be Charles’s grandfather, Richard–the Logan family patriarch

Now that she realized who he was, Ava couldn’t help but feel a twinge of fear

But before she could say anything, Teresa cut in, her voice sharp: “Aunt Ava, have you forgotten the rules of Joyacre Villa

At Teresa’s words, Ava felt an unexplainable irritation bubbling up. But with Richard right there, she didn’t dare show it.

So, she just swallowed her annoyance and kept quiet.

She rose from the sofa and walked respectfully over to Teresa, lowering her voice, “Is there something you’d like to eat, Teresa? Just let me know and I’ll take care of it.”

Teresa turned her head towards Ava, a subtle and ambiguous smile on her lips. She paused to think for a moment, then finally said, “Aunt Ava, I’d like some Beef Wellington.”

As Teresa said the dish’s name, her smile was soft and harmless, not a hint of hostility in her eyes.

Ava knew full well Teresa was making things tough on purpose, but she could only nod and reply, “Alright, I’ll make it for you right now.” ‘She thought to herself, Fine, whatever she asks, I’ll just do it.’

But unexpectedly, after Ava disappeared into the kitchen, Richard turned and grumbled, “Teresa, isn’t it a bit late to keep the staff busy over this?

As the mood between Teresa and Charles grew more awkward, Richard finally spoke up. “Enough already. If Teresa wants Beef Wellington, just let her have it–it’s no big deal.”

Just then, a soft voice called out from the doorway. “Charles?

It was Naomi, coming back home.

Richard glanced at Naomi, then turned to Charles and asked, “And who might this be?*

When Charles was asked, Teresa turned her gaze to him, wanting to see how he’d answer.

For a moment, everyone’s eyes were on Charles.

Charles remained unfazed, looking at his grandfather as he said, “This is Yolanda’s tutor.”

Richard frowned. “Yolanda’s still so young—why does she need a tutor?”

Charles explained, “Yolanda loves playing on her tablet, so I hired a tutor to teach her something else.”

Before Richard could say anything, Naomi gave a deep bow and greeted him, “Hello, Grandpa.”

“Hello,” Richard replied with a gentle nod.

Seeing Grandpa smiling, Naomi felt her nerves ease up a bit.

“Grandpa, do you mind if I go upstairs to keep Yolanda company?” she asked softly.

Grandpa nodded. “Mm, go ahead.”

Naomi smiled again. “Alright, Grandpa. You should get some rest too. Goodnight.”

Not once did Naomi spare Teresa a glance, making it clear she didn’t even acknowledge her existence the whole time.

After Naomi went upstairs, Richard turned to Teresa and Charles and said, “That girl’s really nice–cheerful, lively, great personality. think she’s a great pick as Yolanda’s tutor.”

Teresa didn’t respond to that.

Instead, Charles just smiled faintly and said, “Yeah, she’s always had a great personality.”

As he said this, he couldn’t help but glance up the stairs in the direction Naomi had gone.

In that moment, his gaze was practically brimming with pride.
