Chapter 214
Chapter 214
Naomi headed upstairs, catching a glimpse of Andrew downstairs as she turned the corner.
When she saw him looking totally lost and caught off guard, a warmth unexpectedly bloomed inside her.
With so many guys liking her, her heart felt sweet as honey.
Once upstairs, she made her way to Charles’s bedroom.
When she walked in, Charles was in the middle of changing out of his pajamas.
Naomi didn’t even hesitate, just walked straight over.

Hearing footsteps, Charles glanced back. When he realized it was Naomi, he casually started buttoning up his shirt and joked, “Couldn’t sleep in a little longer?”
Naomi stepped right up to him, stretching onto her tiptoes to tidy the collar of his shirt for him.
She purposely leaned in, closing the distance between them until all Charles had to do was lower his head a bit, and his cheek would brush against hers.

At the same time, she answered with a teasing smile, “You have work today, right? That’s why I came up to check on you. Honestly, if I didn’t help, you’d probably go to the office with your tie all crooked.”
She was always the one tying his ties for him.
As she spoke, she gave him a soft smile.

Charles looked down at her, and seeing her so full of smiles, he couldn’t help it a smile tugged at his lips too.
At that moment, Yolanda’s gentle voice drifted in from the doorway, “Daddy, Naomi.”
The two inside instinctively glanced toward the door, their little moment i
Doted.
Yolanda was standing there with her hair tumbling around her shoulders, still hugging her plush toy close.
Seeing Yolanda, Naomi couldn’t help but remember how Ava had pinched her last night.
Honestly, when Yolanda was crying from the pain, Naomi couldn’t deny she’d felt a twisted sense of excitement.
Charles saw it was Yolanda, held out his hand and said, “Come here, let Miss Naomi fix your hair for you.”
At that, Yolanda came into the room, hugging her stuffed animal.
Once Naomi finished styling Yolanda’s hair, she said, “All done.”
As Yolanda turned around, still clutching her plush toy, her sleeve slipped up a little, exposing a smattering of bruises on her arm.
Charles was too busy straightening his own clothes to even pay attention to Yolanda.
Suddenly, Naomi was hit by a wave of guilt and panic. Afraid that Charles might catch sight of the bruises on Yolanda’s arm, she instantly stepped in front of him, completely cutting off his line of sight to Yolanda.
Charles noticed Naomi stepping in front of him, blocking his view, so he frowned and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Naomi’s eyes flickered as an idea popped into her head. Putting on a serious face, she said, “Charles, you’re a man, and Yolanda’s just a little girl. You grailý shouldn’t be standing around with your shirt open in front of her–it might not be the best influence”
At this point, Charles’s shirt was still only half–buttoned.
Hearing this, Charles hurriedly fastened the rest of his buttons. He gave Naomi a look and said with a sheepish antile. Guess I was heting careless–good thing you’re paying attention”
Naomi sunted and said, “Alright, I’ll take Yolanda back to her room just come over when you’re done getting dressed
Charles nodded “Sounds good?

As she watched Charles and Naomi getting along so well, she felt her eyes sting, that familiar ache building up–on the verge of tears before she even realized it.
It wasn’t until Naomi finally turned back and reached for her hand that Yolanda’s hurt overwhelmed her, her tears spilling over as the feeling of being left out hit her hard.
Naomi noticed Yolanda quietly crying, but she didn’t even try to comfort her–she just led her back to the bedroom, pretending nothing had happened.
Once they were back, Naomi picked out an outfit for Yolanda to wear that day.
She ignored the tears in Yolanda’s eyes, carelessly pulling the clothes over her head without a hint of gentleness.
When Yolanda was finally dressed, she suddenly clung to Naomi’s hand, her voice trembling, eyes watery. “Aunt Naomi, will you always love me? You won’t stop loving me, right?”
Hearing this, Naomi reached up to gently wipe the tears from Yolanda’s cheeks, her tone full of tenderness. “Of course, sweetie I’ll always love you.”

The teacher started the roll call with a cheerful voice, moving down the list one by one, until everyone realized–Yolanda and her parent still hadn’t shown up.
“Can we go now or what? Do we really have to wait for every single person?” someone snapped, sounding fed up.
“Come on, it’s the weekend! I’ve still got a pile of work waiting for ine. I came out just for this trip, but we seriously can’t just waste our whole day here, another parent added, looking more and more annoyed.
“Hey teachers, can we move already? Time’s ticking–wasting it is just plain dumb. Don’t you get it?” another voice yelled out. impatience rising
Before long, the place was full of complaints, everyone talking over each other–the whole kindergarten was buzzing with frustration.

But right then, Monica suddenly tugged Aunt Teresa’s hand and called out, “Aunt Teresa.”
At her call, Teresa crouched down, her expression all gentle as she asked, “What’s wrong, Monica?”
Monica whispered, her voice barely above a murmur, “Mr. Hamilton keeps looking at you.”

Hearing that, Teresa glanced over in the direction Monica indicated.
Troy was standing in the crowd, with Zane Peterson right beside him.
But when Teresa looked over, Troy quickly averted his gaze.
Seeing that, Teresa gently rubbed Monica’s cheek and said, “Monica, Mr. Hamilton is just a friend. It’s perfectly normal if he looks at Aunt Teresa now and then.”
Monica was still little, so she didn’t really get it and didn’t ask any more. She just held onto Teresa’s hand and said, “Okay, I just want you to be happy!”
Teresa’s heart warmed at that. She pressed her forehead tenderly against Monica’s and smiled softly. “Okay.”
Twenty minutes later, Naomi finally showed up, fashionably late with Yolanda in tow.

When they reached the kindergarten gate, Naomi immediately saw all the grumpy faces and realized exactly why. Flashing an embarrassed smile, she quickly said, “Sorry for making everyone wait, we got stuck in traffic. Coffee’s on me later, and ice cream for all the kids–my treat!“,
With just a quick apology and a little treat, all the grumbling vanished in an instant, replaced by everyone suddenly cheering Naomi on and singing her praises.
“Yoyo’s mother isn’t just pretty, she’s got the kindest heart and she’s this generous too? Seriously, she’s one in a million!” someone gushed.
“Man, if my partner was even half as sweet and thoughtful as Yoyo’s mother, I’d count my blessings,” another parent sighed, clearly jealous.
“Yoyo’s Dad hit the jackpot–how did he end up with such an amazing woman?” someone else joked, shaking their head in awe.
Just like that, all the complaints from before were swapped out for flattery and compliments.
Naomi stood among them, grinning from ear to ear, practically glowing with happiness.
Yolanda was standing right next to Naomi, but with all eyes on Naomi, it was like she didn’t even exist–completely eclipsed by Naomi’s glow.
