Teresa was dabbing at Troy’s wound with a tissue when she heard his question. Her hand paused for just a moment, almost too subtle to

notice.

After a brief silence, she finally said, “We’re from two different worlds.”

With her head bowed, her long lashes cast a shadow across her face. She didn’t smile–her tone was deadly serious.

Troy felt a sting in his chest. Dropping his voice, he asked, heavy and hurt, “Teresa, I’ve been reaching out to you, taking step after step your way. Why won’t you take even one step toward me? Why is it always just me?”

Teresa kept pressing a tissue to Troy’s fingers, only then lifting her gaze to meet his. The instant their eyes locked, she saw nothing but deep anger and hurt blazing in his eyes.

She spaced out for a second, but then that scene from the other night–Troy kissing Naomi–crashed back into her mind out of nowhere.

Her expression froze, and her tone turned frigid. “You have your life, and I have mine.”

Troy was sick of this excuse. He’d heard her say it a hundred times already, and it grated on his nerves.

‘But back at the hospital, she sure wasn’t acting like this,‘ Troy thought, unable to shake the difference.

‘She let me hold her all night—there’s no nothing.

Troy’s temper snapped. He seized her arm, hauling her in close, his eyes locked on hers as he gritted out, “You’re lying to me!”

Teresa winced, her brows knitting in pain. “Troy, let go of me.”

Troy just couldn’t understand how she’d changed so much. Dropping his voice, he pressed on, “Tell me, what did I do wrong? If it’s my fault, I’ll fix it. Just tell me, okay?”

Teresa stared right back at him. “No, you haven’t done anything wrong. Not thing.”

Troy’s grip on her arm slackened a bit, a look of disbelief crossing his face. He asked, “So,

still have feelings for Charles, don’t you?”

Giving up, she met his gaze and said, ice in her voice, “I don’t love anyone. I only care about myself. That’s all there is to it.”

Her words stabbed right through Troy, leaving him raw. But in his mind, she was just making excuses–she still had a thing for Charles, he was sure of it.

He shoved her arm away, his voice burning with anger. “If you don’t want me, then stay out of my life! Even if I drop dead, it has nothing to do with you.”

With that, Troy spun on his heel and stormed off without a second thought.

She blurted out, “Troy.”

Troy froze, a flicker of hope sparking in his chest.

‘She must’ve been saying all that out of anger. Now she wants to win me back, he thought, his heart racing with anticipation.

But all he got was Teresa’s cold, matter–of–fact voice. “Monica and Zane are innocent. Let’s not take our feelings out on them. When we go back, let’s not make things awkward or fight anymore.”

Troy let out a sarcastic snort. That’s all you wanted to say?”

Teresa nodded, her voice cold and firm “Yes”

Before she could say another word, Troy marched right back, grabbed her by the back of the head, and yanked her into his arms. He didn’t care if she wanted it or not–he crashed lus lips down onto tiers, sealing her mouth with his own

Teresa felt herself suffocating, struggling hard and pounding against Troy’s chest, but not a single word could escape her lips.

It wasn’t until Teresa went limp, collapsing against him, that Troy finally let her go.

But with all those tabloid headlines about Troy and other women–and that night at the restaurant, when she’d actually seen him flirting up close with some celebrity actressit was impossible to believe.

Yet here he was, acting like he had done her some great favor, boldly declaring he stayed pure for her.

Teresa just couldn’t believe for a second that any of it was real—his claims of innocence, his carefully crafted image, all of it felt like nothing but lies to her.

To her, Troy’s words were empty–she knew better than to trust a single thing he said.

She noticed his tense mood and walked over, concern in her voice. “Mr. Hamilton, are you still upset about what Yolanda said?” Troy was still frustrated and barely glanced at her, replying curtly. “It’s not worth it.”

Yolanda was just a kid–he wasn’t about to get mad at her. What really bothered Troy was Zane’s situation, he genuinely felt sorry for him.

Naomi saw how cold Troy was toward her and assumed he was still holding a grudge against Yolanda–which probably meant he was annoyed at her too, just by association.

She couldn’t help but speak up. “Mr. Hamilton, I want to apologize on Yolanda’s behalf. She really shouldn’t have said these things to

Troy turned to look straight at her, his voice icy. “So, are you planning to apologize for her for the rest of her life?”

Naomi was completely thrown–she just stood there, lost for words.

After all. Naomi had never been a mother, so there was no way she could truly get how much it hurt Zane, hearing someone call him something like that.

Right then, her apology wasn’t really about understanding the gravity of the situation–it was just a quick fix to smooth things over.

Seeing Naomi at a loss for words, Troy felt a strange urge to laugh.

But before he could, Naomi suddenly leaned in closer to him.

At the same time, she deliberately brushed her chest against his arm.

Troy could tell Naomi was messing with him on purpose, and his face clouded over in an instant.

In the next moment, he deliberately stepped away from Naomi, putting a clear space between them.

Meanwhile, Teresa had just returned from the woods and spotted Troy and Naomi standing so close, it looked like they might end up in each each other’s arms.

She shot them a quick glance, then immediately started scanning the crowd for Monica.

Just then, Teresa heard Yolanda’s voice, sharp and cruel, shouting, “You’re a bastard! You’re a bastard! You’re a bastard! That’s all you are, Zane! You don’t even have a mom–you’re just a bastard!”
