Chapter 223
The officer agreed without hesitation. “Alright, we’ll handle it as soon as possible.”
After making sure Teresa was alright, the officer left the hospital room.
He came back a few moments later.

Sitting down next to her bed, the officer looked apologetic. “We just investigated, but the security camera in the room isn’t working.”
Teresa’s heart sank.
Frustration bubbled up, her eyes brimming with tears. Teresa snapped at the officer, “Then why are you telling me this? Go check the other cameras–don’t just stand here!”
Seeing how upset she was, the officer lowered his voice. “It’s okay, we’ve already documented everything. Let us handle things from
here.”
Teresa wasn’t satisfied. She wanted Roselyn, Andrew, Stella, and Ethan arrested right then and there.
But since the officer had said that, she couldn’t throw a fit and keep making a scene
After the officer left, it suddenly hit Teresa–maybe the Logan family had already covered their tracks.
Reporting this to the police was probably useless; she knew nothing would come
That night, Teresa tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
It wasn’t until the next morning that the doctors came to check on her.
of it.
Even though Teresa was covered in bruises and cuts, they pretended not to see anything. Instead, they put on an act of concern and asked, “Teresa, where’s your family?”
Teresa didn’t answer. She just shot them a look from her reddened eyes.
The head doctor, a woman, softly advised, “You’re still very weak. Even if you don’t need a full rest period right now, you really ought to have someone from your family by your side.”
Teresa still didn’t respond.
Seeing her reaction, the doctors didn’t press the issue.
Once the doctors finished their rounds, Teresa realized just how hungry she was–her stomach actually hurt from the emptiness.
She hadn’t had a single bite of food or even a drop of water since last night.
She could barely sit up, much less make it outside to find something to eat.
The doctor really was right about one thing–Teresa needed someone to look after her now more than ever.
But who was left? Who could she even turn to?
Reaching out to the Sullivans was out of the question. If Theodore got wind of any of this, his temper would explode and he’d go straight after the Logan family.
Troy crossed her mind for a moment, and she considered calling him. But after a brief hesitation, she pushed the thought aside–better not to get him involved, either.
As for Hector, he was just a doctor. If she dragged him into all this mess, it would only jeopardize his future, and she didn’t want that for
him.
That left only one person she could turn to–Charles.
She borrowed the nurse’s phone and called him; maybe seeing an unfamiliar number, Charles actually answered.
“Hello?” His voice was hoarse, like he’d just woken up.

Teresa bit her lip, then finally spoke. “Charles, it’s me, 1-”
But before she could finish, Charles hung up without a second thought.

Teresa knew Charles was furious about her ending the pregnancy, but right now, with her life practically hanging by a thread, she had nowhere else to turn–he was her last hope.
But Charles turned out to be even colder than she’d ever imagined.
He didn’t even want to give her time to finish speaking.
As the busy signal droned on, Teresa couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh.
After the laughter faded, the tears came back, streaming down her cheeks once more.
Right now, Teresa was down to her last hope.
She dialed Wendy’s number, and Wendy picked up in a flash. “Hello? Who is this?”

y, can you come to the hospital? I really
Teresa’s nose stung, her tears pouring down even harder. In a shaky voice, she sobbed, “Wendy, need need someone with me.”
Wendy didn’t hesitate.
-a moment later, she was grabbing her coat and heading out the door.
Seeing how upset Wendy was, Teresa hurried to reassure her, her own voice trembling, “Wendy, really, I’m okay.”
Over all these years, Wendy had never seen Teresa like this–not so broken, not so vulnerable. Seeing her in such a state, Wendy realized Teresa was only putting on a brave face to keep her from worrying.
With that, Wendy turned and walked out of the room, wiping away her tears as she went.
Because she was so focused on hiding her face, she didn’t even realize Leo was standing quietly in the corner of the elevator

Leo wasn’t sure what was up with her, but seeing Wendy so heartbroken just made his own chest tighten a bit.
Her face was streaked with tears. Noticing this, Leo fished a handkerchief out of his pocket and quietly offered it to her.

Wendy didn’t even glance up when he handed it over. She just assumed someone wanted an autograph, so she signed her name on it without a second thought.
Since Wendy made food videos, she had become a minor internet celebrity in her own right.
Getting recognized in public was just part of her daily routine now.
So when Leo handed her the handkerchief, Wendy reflexively assumed he must be a fan.
She’d barely finished signing her name when the elevator doors slid open.
Wendy quickly pulled up her mask and stepped out.
Leo was still standing in the corner of the elevator, gripping that autographed handkerchief, totally dazed and not quite knowing what
had just happened.›
But finally, he couldn’t hold it back and let out a little chuckle.
Leo couldn’t help thinking to himself, ‘Honestly, Wendy was kinda adorable just now.‘
After Wendy got some food, she came back and even fed Teresa herself.
When Teresa finished eating, Wendy cleaned up the leftovers.
Right then, Teresa’s new phone started ringing.
It was a call from Dr. Spencer.
Dr. Spencer’s voice came over the line, “Teresa, why didn’t you come in to work today?”

Teresa’s voice came out hoarse, “Dr. Spencer, I’m sorry, I haven’t been feeling well these past couple of days and was hoping to take a few days off.”
Dr. Spencer snapped the moment he heard she wanted time off again. “Why can’t you give notice for your leave ahead of time?”
Before Teresa could answer, Wendy grabbed the phone and barked, “Seriously? How’s she supposed to know she’s getting sick in advance? Go ahead, tell me!”
There was only silence on the other end.
Wendy, her anger boiling over, shot back, “If you can’t handle the job as a boss, maybe you should step down. If you’re okay with the leave, just dock her pay. If not, then fire her. But stop nagging her with this crap already.”
