When Hector saw Teresa walking out of the Sullivan Mansion with Troy by her side, his heart clenched like it had been pricked by needle.

But as Teresa walked over to him, Hector still greeted her with a wide smile, raising his umbrella as he moved slowly toward her.

Once they stood side by side, Hector angled the umbrella completely to cover Teresa, shielding her from the rain as much as possible.

He looked down at her, his face breaking into a gentle smile. “Teresa.”

Teresa looked up at Hector and returned his smile. “Hector.”

Before heading out, she had carefully put on makeup, using concealer to hide the faint bruises on her face.

To Hector, Teresa looked perfectly healthy–as if she’d never been ill.

Hector switched the umbrella to his other hand and stepped beside Teresa. “Let’s get in the car.”

Troy stood off to the side, rolling his eyes at Hector’s actions.

Troy muttered under his breath with a quiet scoff, “All for show.”

Teresa whipped around and shot him a glare.

Seeing her glare, Troy deliberately turned his face away, refusing to meet her eyes or say anything.

Hector heard Troy’s snide comment too, but he didn’t get angry. Instead, he just gave a faint smile and gently said, “Teresa, let’s get in the car.”

Teresa nodded. “Yeah.”

Hector held the umbrella over both of them as they walked together toward the car.

When they reached the car, Hector opened the passenger side door for her.

Troy followed close behind Teresa, and the moment he saw Hector opening the front passenger door, he hurried over and pulled Teresa back just as she was about to get in.

At the same time, he turned to Hector and said, “Sweetheart can sit in the back. After all, she’s riding with me.

As he spoke, a roguish grin tugged at Troy’s lips.

Teresa tried to yank her hand free, but Troy’s grip was too strong–he effortlessly shoved her into the back seat.

The whole thing happened so quickly that Hector didn’t even have time to react before Teresa was already in the back.

Troy rolled down the window, showing off his boyish good looks. He arched his brow at Hector and said, “Mr. Reed, drive.

He deliberately stretched out the words, giving Hector a half–smirk as he spoke.

Hector folded up the umbrella, then glanced back at Teresa in the rear seat. Catching the guilt in her eyes, he just smiled softly at her and said, “Teresa, make sure you buckle your seat belt.”

Teresa nodded. “Okay.”

She leaned in to reach for the seat belt, but Troy was faster he snatched it up first and snapped it into place for her, not missing a beat.

After securing it, Troy turned to Hector with a cocky grin. “Sweetheart’s with me, Mr. Reed, so you can just relax. I’ve got her covered.”

Hector ignored Troy completely, not even sparing him a glance.

He slid into the driver’s seat and drove off.

On the drive to the restaurant, Troy just wouldn’t stop teasing Teresa from the back seat

“Sweetheart, you tired? Want me to give you a shoulder rub. hum?”

“Sweetheart, your hair’s all messy. Want me to tidy it up for you?”

“Sweetheart, you’re so cool and distant… But that’s exactly why I can’t get enough of you.”

Sweetheart, give me a smile, will you?”

Teresa knew exactly what Troy was up to–he was trying all sorts of tricks just to rile Hector. She wouldn’t play along, staying silent the whole ride.

His car had just stopped too; Charles wasted no time–he quickly unbuckled, stepped out, circled around to the passenger side, and opened the door himself.

Not once in five years of marriage had Charles ever shown her this kind of tenderness. Yet now, with Naomi, every devoted gesture seemed almost second nature to him–like he’d never known how to be any other way.

Teresa froze for a second, thrown off by their synchronized voices. Instinctively, she tore her eyes away from Charles and Naomi, who were just a short distance away.

After a moment’s hesitation, Teresa reached out to Hector, who was closest. He gently clasped her fingertips in his.

But the instant Troy saw Teresa pick Hector, the smile in his eyes vanished completely.

Seeing both Hector and Troy focused on Teresa at the same time sent an inexplicable pang of discomfort through Naomi.

Charles closed the car door and walked over, only to notice Nagini didn’t look quite herself. Worried, he asked, “You don’t look so good. What’s the matter?”

Naomi shook her head, her voice soft. “It’s nothing, really. Maybe I’m just a little chilly.”

She’d picked style over comfort today, wearing just a winter dress without any coat.

Catching her words, Charles immediately shrugged off his own jacket and draped it around her shoulders, then slipped his arm around her as they headed toward the restaurant.

Charles never even noticed the others; it was as if they weren’t even there.

Honestly, it made sense–his gaze was rooted in Naomi alone.

Right after Troy got out of the car, he saw Charles and Naomi. The moment he noticed Charles putting his jacket over Naomi’s shoulders, Troy got worried Teresa might be cold too, so he immediately started to take off his own jacket for her.

Teresa saw what Troy was trying to do and quickly waved him off. “I’m fine, Mr. Hamilton–no need, seriously.”

While Teresa was shutting Troy down, Hector smoothly draped his own jacket over her shoulders from behind.

At the same time, Hector said, “Teresa, let’s go in. Professor Judd just messaged–he’s been bugging us to hurry up.”

Hearing that, Teresa didn’t even pay attention to the jacket draped over her shoulders–she just turned to Hector and said, “Okay, let’s head inside.”

Troy said nothing, silently falling in step behind them.

When they’d just stepped into the restaurant, Troy called out, stopping Teresa in her tracks. “Sweetheart, hold on a second.”

She paused, and Troy came right over–his hand reaching to smooth out her hair, but then, with a quick, almost possessive motion, he slipped Hector’s jacket right off her shoulders.

Immediately, he replaced it with his own jacket and said, “I’ll be right outside. Anything comes up, you call me–I’ll come running. Got
