After a tense pause, Troy just snatched everything out of Theodore’s hands and said, “No way, bro. You totally need my help.”
He grabbed all the stuff and marched off to the kitchen like he owned the place.
Theodore was left standing there, completely bewildered.
Just then, Yvonne walked in from outside, her hands loaded down with groceries, just like Troy earlier.
She’d caught Troy snatching everything from Theodore–and didn’t miss a single detail.
Seeing Theodore totally zoned out, she waved her hand right in front of his face.
Once he finally snapped back to reality, she flashed him a small smile and said, “If he wants to help out, just let him. It’s not like you’re losing anything.”
Theodore shot her a look and replied quietly, “I know what you mean, but I don’t agree.”
Yvonne just kept smiling and teased, “What good does it do if you disagree? In the end, it’s all up to Teresa anyway.”
Theodore just shrugged, took the bags from Yvonne, and followed Troy into the kitchen without another word.
Troy had just put everything away and was about to help Theodore with his bags when he noticed Yvonne coming in right behind him.
Not hesitating for a second, Troy went straight over and took the bags from Yvonne’s hands.
“Yvonne, you’re a lady–girls like you shouldn’t have to do the heavy lifting. Just leave all this grunt work to me,” Troy said with a grin.
Yvonne burst into a bright smile. “If Teresa ever ends up marrying you, who knows how lucky she’d be!”
Troy looked a little embarrassed and scratched the back of his head. “Yvonne, you’re just making fun of me. I’m really nothing special.”
Yvonne was about to say something else, but Theodore stepped forward, deliberately placing himself between her and Troy, making it impossible for them to even exchange another word.
Troy instantly picked up on Theodore’s message and realized he’d probably gotten a little too friendly. After he finished putting the bags away, he made hiinself scarce and kept a seriously low profile.
Yvonne was not only stunning but also an amazing cook. Since she was the one who invited Troy over, she wanted to show off her skills.
Theodore didn’t say anything–he just quietly hung back, playing sous chef, letting her take the lead in the kitchen.
Yvonne spent two hours cooking up a storm. She made Teresa a creamy chicken soup, a tasty mushroom and pork stir–fry, a big plate of garlic spare ribs, and some hearty lamb. On top of all that, she whipped up plenty of veggie sides to round out the meal.
At lunchtime, Troy even took the trouble to go upstairs and gently carry Teresa down to the dining room himself.
Throughout the meal, Troy took great care of Teresa, constantly serving her dishes and ladling soup for her.
Theodore saw all of this, but no matter what, he just couldn’t bring himself to feel happy about it.
Sometimes, when two families are just on totally different levels, it doesn’t really lead to anything good.
And on top of that, Troy’s reputation out there is kind of notorious.
As the meal was winding down, Troy excused himself, saying he needed to use the restroom.
Hiding out in the bathroom, he spammed his mom with ten desperate texts, each one screaming “SOS!!!*
Rose saw the barrage and replied with a single “?“.
Troy quickly messaged back. “Dinner’s over–should I jump in and wash the dishes, or just play it cool and do nothing?”
Rose Hamilton seemed to pull it over for a moment before coming to a decision.

She fired back, “Why aren’t you already scrubbing those dishes? Get on it!”
With his instructions clear, Troy washed his hands and slipped out of the bathroom.
When he got back to the dining room, everyone was just about done eating.

Not wanting to give Teresa any chance to refuse him, he glanced over at Theodore and Yvonne for backup. “Right, Theo, Yvonne? You guys wouldn’t actually be comfortable letting her go by herself, would you?”
Teresa felt herself getting anxious and a little exasperated. “Troy, you-”
Troy just shot her a calm, confident smile–his eyes said it all: he had absolutely no intention of backing down.
‘Knowing Theodore’s personality, Teresa was sure he’d never let Troy stay the night,‘ she thought to herself.
But in the very next moment, Theodore turned and said, “Go on upstairs and get some rest.”
Then he looked at the staff and instructed, “Please show Mr. Hamilton to the guest room.”
The servant nodded and did exactly as he was told.
Theodore cut her off. “Just this once.”
Teresa had no choice but to give in and let Theodore have his way.
By five in the afternoon, Hector was already waiting outside the Sullivan Mansion.
After getting the call. Teresa slipped a long coat over her fitted dress and was about to head downstairs.
She was trying to sneak downstairs without being noticed, but just as she reached the start of the stairs, Troy–who’d been holed up in the guest room–suddenly swung the door open.
“Did you forget something, Ms. Sullivan?” Troy’s voice was low and smooth, carrying a teasing note, but Teresa could also catch a hint of irritation Jurking underneath.
Teresa instantly felt guilty, turning back around with her eyes flicking anywhere but at Troy, refusing to meet his gaze.
Catching her reaction, Troy just gave her a knowing smile and strolled closer.

When he drew near, he dropped his voice, murmuring, “Even if you try to ditch me now, you know I’ll track you down later anyway. Why waste the effort?”
Teresa kept quiet and started down the stairs, with Troy sticking to her like a shadow, never more than a step behind.
Before Teresa even made it to the front steps, she caught sight of Hector’s car waiting outside.
He stood by the car, his tall figure wrapped in a black overcoat that only made him look more striking. Outside, a fine drizzle painted the air–soft, almost delicate, but unrelenting.
It was barely past five, yet the sky had already fallen into an early twilight gloom.
Hector held a clear umbrella above him, quietly waiting at his post, not the least bit impatient.
At the moment Teresa stepped out, he lifted the edge of his umbrella, and in that instant, his entire face lit up with a genuine, radiant smile.
He stood there under his see–through umbrella, so gentle and charming in the rain that he could melt your heart in an instant- honestly, just one look at him was enough to make you swoon.
