Teresa heard Troy say that and gently tugged his arm. In a soft voice, she told him, “Troy, I can give you my blood. If you wait to get a transfusion at the blood bank, that’ll just waste precious time.”
Troy looked at her, his face cold. “You’ve already done more than enough for me. I don’t want you to go through any more of that, no matter what you say. I’m not letting you donate.”
Teresa frowned at him. “This is a matter of life and death, Troy. You can’t be like this.”
Troy ignored her. Instead, he turned to Hector and said, “Keep an eye on her.”
Then, without another word, Troy strode off.
Seeing how determined he was, Teresa let it go and didn’t say anything else.
Not long after Troy left, a nurse came in with an emergency blood bag.
Teresa wanted to call Troy back, but Hector stopped her. “The supply of A–type blood is dangerously low. Even with this emergency bag, with Rose’s current condition, she’ll probably need a second transfusion. It’s better Troy goes to donate and exchange blood himself.”
Teresa thought about it for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”
Hector was right–Rose would definitely need another transfusion for sure.
It wasn’t long before Troy returned.
Teresa saw him step out of the elevator, looking completely drained, his face pale as a ghost.
Seeing him stagger, Teresa rushed over and caught him just in time. “Are you okay?” she asked.
Troy had just donated a lot of blood and had barely managed to make it back from the donation area.
If he had to go down, it would be right into Teresa’s arms.
So the moment Teresa caught him, Troy completely gave in and slumped against her, letting himself fall into her arms.
Teresa, afraid he’d collapse, quickly caught him with both arms to steady him.
Troy leaned most of his weight on her, lowering his voice right by her ear. “Teresa, what am I supposed to do now?”
Kear.
Teresa was a little stunned and didn’t catch his meaning, so she reflexively asked, “What’s wrong?”
Troy nuzzled against her cheek. “I think I love you even more now.”
With those words, he blacked out right in her arms..
Teresa felt him go completely limp, his weight crushing down on her, and she realized she was about to lose her hold.
Just then, Hector rushed over and caught Troy before he could hit the floor.
With the nurses‘ help, they hurried Troy into the ER observation room.
After a quick check, the doctor confirmed Troy had just passed out from sheer exhaustion.
Teresa knew it was just because Troy had given blood–it really wasn’t a big deal.
Hector stood next to Teresa, turning to watch her noticing how she couldn’t take her eyes off Troy.
Seeing how anxious she looked, Hector finally asked, “Are you thinking of heading back?”
After giving it some serious thought, Teresa turned to Hector and said, “I want to stay here and look after hin
Hector frowned. “But his family’s going to show up soon, and with the doctors and nurses around, he’ll be fine. He’s just a bit weak from donating–it’s nothing dangerous.”
Even though Teresa knew it made sense, she insisted. “But he was there for me when I needed someone. I have to be here for him now.

Hector picked up on her resolve and said, “Then I’m not going anywhere–I’ll stay right here with you.”
Teresa frowned, concern in her voice. “It’s really late, Hector. Why don’t you head home?”
Hector replied firmly. “No way. I can’t just leave you here. I’m staying, like it or not.”
Teresa tried to talk him into leaving a couple more times, but Hector wouldn’t listen, so she could only sigh and drop the subject.
As Teresa kept watch over Troy, Hector’s phone suddenly rang.
He stood up and walked over to the window to take the call.
Teresa couldn’t hear what the person on the other end was saying, but she heard Hector say, “I can’t make it back. Find someone else to handle it.”
Hearing him. Teresa hurried over to his side.
She leaned over and gently tucked the blanket around him.
Just as she straightened up. Troy reached out and pulled her straight into his arms on the bed.

At the same time, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tight.
Her back pressed against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her waist, locking his fingers together across her stomach.
Troy rested his chin atop her head, his voice low and desperate. “Forget about Charles. Will you let me love you instead?”
Teresa tried to break free, but couldn’t. Sighing in resignation, she said, “But Troy, in the end, we’re on different paths.”

Troy gripped her even tighter, murmuring in her ear, his voice rough. “No, it’s not like that. There’s no ‘us‘–just me. I’m yours, your loyal dog. I belong to you.”
Hearing those words, Teresa tried even harder to wriggle out of his grasp.
Seeing her struggle, Troy only locked her tighter against his chest. “Teresa, I’m really cold. Don’t go.”
At his plea, Teresa stopped struggling.
His body really was ice–cold–it sent a chill straight through her back.
Troy had lost so much blood, he could barely stay conscious, his head swimming.
To hold her close, Troy had to use every ounce of strength he had left.
Only when he held Teresa in his arms did he finally start to feel a bit of warmth return to his body.
Troy’s body radiated heat, and Teresa–already tired–felt sleepiness hit her the moment he hugged her tight.
Before she knew it, Teresa had drifted off to sleep.
Hearing her gentle, even breathing, Troy couldn’t help but let out a quiet laugh.
