It was nearly five in the morning by the time Hector finished the brain surgery. He’d been on his feet for over seven hours, and every muscle in his body was numb.
Knowing Teresa was still with Troy, he quickly washed up and took a cab to the hospital.
When he got to the Emergency Department, he checked with a nurse and found out Teresa was still in the observation room.
So, he went straight over without a second thought.
The door to the observation room was slightly ajar, and the lights were on inside.
Just as Hector reached out to push the door open, he hesitated and pulled his hand back.
Through the crack, he saw Teresa and Troy lying together on the narrow hospital bed.
The bed was really only meant for one, yet somehow the two of them managed to share it.
Teresa looked so tiny, completely surrounded in Troy’s arms.
In that moment, she was completely Troy’s, nestled in his arms like she was part of him, belonging to no one else.
Hector reached for the door, but at the last moment, his hand fell back to his side.
His eyes burned red, and with a heavy heart, he quietly walked away from the room.
Early in the morning, Teresa woke up feeling hot and sweaty.
She was drenched, and as she blinked herself awake, she was startled to find herself tangled up in Troy’s arms.
Troy had her in such a tight embrace that Teresa could barely catch her breath. ‘Geez, does he have to squeeze so hard?‘ she thought.
Carefully, Teresa nudged Troy away before climbing down from the hospital bed.
Standing by the bed, Teresa found herself remembering what Hector had told her.
He said he’d be back soon.
But so much time had passed, and he still hadn’t returned.
Thinking about it made Teresa anxious–she wanted to go outside and give Hector a call.
But just as she opened the door, Teresa caught sight of Hector slumped on the bench by the entrance.
His eyes were bloodshot, shadows under them, with a rough layer of stubble along his jaw–he looked like he’d aged overnight.
Teresa came to a sudden stop, worry evident in her voice. “Hector, did you stay here the whole night?”
Hector looked at her, his eyes holding a trace of bitterness. He answered quietly, “Yeah.”
Seeing how worn out Hector looked, Teresa couldn’t help but worry that the surgery might’ve gone badly. “Did something go wrong with the operation?” she asked gently.
Hector shook his head, his voice tired but certain. “No, everything went fine.”
Teresa was still puzzled, so she asked, “Are you hungry?”
Hector nodded, “Yeah.”
Teresa frowned a little and suggested, “Want to go grab some breakfast together?”
Hector replied quietly, “Yeah.”
Noticing how Hector was barely speaking. Teresa frowned and asked, “Hector, are you okay? What’s wrong**

Hector lifted his face to her, his dark eyes hopeful and intense, searching her features for even the slightest hint of emotion. He didn’t seem willing to miss a single change in her expression.
He finally spoke, his voice low and vulnerable. “If I passed out… would you hold me the way you held him?”
Teresa frowned, clearly confused. “What do you mean?”
But before she could process it, Hector suddenly slumped right into her arms.
She barely managed to reach out in time, catching his head and steadying him before he hit the ground.
At the same moment, she cried out frantically, “Doctor! Doctor! Someone help!”
Doctors rushed in and quickly took Hector to the emergency room.
After running a bunch of tests, the doctor finally turned to Teresa, who still looked worried. “It’s really nothing serious,” the doctor said with a reassuring smile. “He just fainted–pulled an all–nighter and skipped breakfast, so his blood sugar tanked. Some rest and a good meal, and he’ll be fine.”
Teresa nodded, her voice gentle. “Okay, I got it.”
Uncertain and a bit anxious, Troy quickly slipped on his slippers and hurried out to look for her.
After a restless search through the hospital, Troy finally ended up at the infusion room in the Emergency Department.
The door wasn’t closed, and he could clearly hear Teresa and Hector’s voices coming from inside.
Hector’s gentle voice floated out: “Hey Teresa, want to have a taste of this porridge?”
Teresa sounded soft and a little shy. “You go ahead, Hector. I’m really not hungry.”
Hector coaxed her, “Come on, just try a little? Let me feed you, yeah?”

Teresa was about to refuse again, but before she could get a word out, the infusion room door was kicked open with a sharp bang.
At the sound. Teresa turned to see Troy standing there, backlit so his features were hard to make out.
Even without a clear look at his face, she could sense his anger practically burning in the air.
In the next moment, Troy marched right toward her, his whole posture aggressive and brimming with fury.
The closer Troy came, the clearer his face became–and the more furious he looked, anger practically radiating off him in waves.
Before Teresa could even get a word out, Troy barked at her, voice like a whip: “Teresa, you heartless woman! Did you really think you could juggle three guys all at the same time?”
Teresa frowned, a trace of frustration in her voice. “That’s not true, Troy! Don’t accuse me of something I didn’t do.”
Troy glared at her, then shot a look down at her hand. “Then tell me–what do you call this? Why are you holding his hand, huh?” Only then did Teresa look down at her own hand, following where Troy was staring.
And just as she feared, Hector was indeed holding her hand firmly.
The instant Hector realized everyone was watching, he squeezed Teresa’s hand even tighter, as if making it clear he had no intention of letting go.
At that moment, Hector looked up at Troy, his voice steady and determined. “You’re not the only one who’s into her–I am too.”
Troy’s face twisted with anger as he snapped, “You don’t get to like her!”
Hector didn’t back down. Locking eyes with Troy, he challenged, “Says who?”
Troy shot back, “For one thing, I’ve known her way longer than you–and she even said she was going to marry-”
But before he could finish, the nurse pushed open the door to the infusion room.
The nurse hurried over to Troy, sounding urgent. “Mr. Hamilton, your mother’s awake–she wants to see you now.
