Teresa’s response was flawless, but Troy still couldn’t shake his unease. “We’ve got a stove and all the kitchen stuff here. I’ll cook for her. You just need to stay with her. It’s late, and I really don’t like the idea of you going out now.”
Teresa turned, resolute. “But she said she wants food from that restaurant on the south side of town.”
Troy fell silent at that.
But a moment later, he quickly said, “Then I’ll go with you.”
Teresa looked at him. “Wendy’s still here. I need you to stay and keep an eye on her. I’m worried George might come back.”
Troy wanted to argue that Leo was there and that should be enough, but Teresa wasn’t in the mood to listen. She turned and headed straight for the elevator.
Troy watched her go, a knot of unease tightening in his chest.
Leo, noticing something was off with Teresa, said to Troy, “Troy, go after Teresa. I’ve got things covered here.”
With that reassurance, Troy didn’t hesitate. He hurried after her
By the time he reached the gate of the apartment complex, Troy spotted Teresa hopping into a taxi.
Before he could do anything, the cab rolled away.
But the taxi didn’t go south like she’d claimed–it headed straight for the north side of town.
In that moment, Troy’s suspicions vanished she really was lying to him.
He wasted no time and flagged down another cab. “Follow that car,” he told the driver.
About half an hour later, the taxi pulled up at the entrance of an apartment complex.
Teresa got out and blended in with the crowd heading inside,
But just as she was about to step through the gate, Troy caught up with her and pulled her back.
Troy glared at her, his voice sharp with anger as he demanded, “What the hell are you doing?”
Teresa blinked, a little surprised to see Troy, but then she put on her best innocent look and said, “I swear, Troy, I’m not up to anything.”
Troy fixed her with a cold, razor–sharp stare. “Didn’t you say you were heading south for some pork stew? But this is the north side.”
Teresa glanced around and played it off. “Oh, must’ve taken a wrong turn.”
Troy wasn’t buying it didn’t care if it was an accident or not. He grabbed her arm “Come on, we’re going back.“
Teresa jerked away from him. “I’m not going anywhere. If you want to leave, be my guest.”
Troy watched her stand her ground and it hit him in an instant–‘So that’s it. She came here on purpose
Troy suddenly realized–she’d come here on purpose. This wasn’t some innocent mistake.
He let go of her arm and demanded harshly. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Teresa got irritated, snapping at him. “Can’t you just stay out of my business for once?”
Troy was stunned for a moment, but then he grabbed her hand again. “No, you’re coming back with me.
Teresa resisted pulling against him, and in the scuttle, a folding knife hidden up her sleeve fell to the ground
Troy glanced down, and Teresa tried to grab it, but he was quicker. He stepped on it pining it to the ground.
Tray suddenly understood everything
His brows furrowed, tone sharp “Why the hell do you have a kunite?”

Teresa couldn’t hold it in anymore. Her body tensed, and she snapped at him, “George is a goddamn animal. He deserves to die. I’m gonna cut off his balls and feed them to the dogs.”
Troy grabbed her hand, his grip tightening. “And what about you? What happens after you do that?”
Teresa had made up her mind long ago. “I’d turn myself in.”
Troy shot back, his words clipped and raw, “What about me? What am I supposed to do then?”
Teresa just shook her head, tears rolling down her cheeks. “I don’t know.”
She gripped the knife tight, and she really had considered cutting George’s damn junk off.
As they reached the door, they could hear Wendy’s sobs coming from inside.
Wendy’s face was streaked with tears, her voice trembling as she pleaded, “Please, just let me be by myself for a while, okay?”
Teresa was out of options. She turned to Leo and said, “Leo, let’s just leave Wendy alone for a bit.”
No matter what she did, she just couldn’t stop worrying about Wendy.
So, she cautiously made her way to the bedroom door and pushed it open.
The moment it swung open, she yelled in right. “Wendy what are you doing!!”
Right after, she charged straight into the bedroom

In that moment, Wendy was gripping a knife, slashing hard at her own arm.
Blood instantly began to pour down her skin in thick, red streams.

Teresa’s heart was in her throat. Without a second thought, she rushed over and seized the blade with her bare hand.
Terrified that Wendy might yank the knife back, Teresa held on as tightly as she could, paying no mind to the blade cutting into her palm. Blood ran freely from between her fingers, splattering everywhere.
Wendy stared at her in horror, panic flooding her face. “Teresa, let go!” she cried, her voice shaking.
Teresa shouted, her voice desperate and determined, “I’m not letting go!”
Wendy’s face was twisted with grief, tears pouring down. “Teresa, please, just let me end it. Why am I even still here?”
Teresa’s eyes were rimmed red, her words choked with emotion. “You still have me! If something happened to you, what about me? What would I do without you?”
At that moment, Troy and Leo burst into the room, both their faces filled with worry.
Seeing Wendy falter at Teresa’s words, Leo quickly added, “I’m here too.”
Troy just let out a derisive snort.
Right now, all he cared about was Teresa being hurt.
His words got cold as he looked at Wendy. “You wanna die? Fine, go ahead. But think–once you’re gone, George gets to walk free. Nobody’s gonna stand up for you. The rest of us? Except for Teresa, none of us will lose a wink of sleep. I sure won’t shed a single tear.”
