When he stopped in front of them, Finn flashed Jason a grin and explained, “I was just wandering nearby and spotted something interesting, so I picked it up on a whim.”
Jason moved in, reaching for Finn, but Finn quickly took a step back, clutching his pocket protectively.
Seeing Finn act all mysterious, Jason got even more curious. “Come on, what is it? Hurry up and show me!”
Finn kept his hand over his pocket and said, “It’s nothing.”
Jason narrowed his eyes at Finn acting all sneaky and teased, “What’s up? Are you seriously planning to give that to your crush?”
Finn scoffed at Jason and said, “None of your business.”
Jason gave
e Finn a suspicious look and pressed, “Wait, do you actually have a crush?”
Finn grumbled under his breath, “Yeah.”
Jason slung an arm around Finn’s shoulders grinning as he teased, “So who is it? Someone I know?”
Charles and Naomi caught the whole exchange from nearby.
Charles wasn’t the nosy type, but he’d never heard Finn mention having a thing for anyone before–so now, he found himself watching Finn more closely.
Naomi just stared at Finn, curiosity practically written all over her face.
‘Yeah, like Finn would ever just say it out loud,‘ she thought to herself.
‘He’s got feelings for his best friend’s girl.‘ Naomi thought, shaking her head inwardly.
Just then, Naomi overheard Finn telling Jason, “I can’t say anything yet. When I finally win her over, you’ll all know about it.” Jason let the secret dangle, then turned to Charles and joked, “Charles, look at Finn–dude’s got secrets of his own now.” Charles just gave a little smile and glanced at Finn. “Never knew you liked anyone before. So this time, it’s serious, huh?” Finn’s ears went crimson as he nodded at Charles. “Yeah, she’s actually adorable when she mouths off.” Feeling all high and mighty from basking in the attention of a secret admirer, Naomi’s head shot up at those words.
She glanced at Finn, a flicker of confusion crossing her face–wait, was he not talking about her after all?
After all around Charles and the others, she always played the perfect angel–when had she ever snapped at anyone in front of them? Charles wasn’t nearly as npsy as Jason, who always had to dig out every secret. He just gave Finn a gentle smile and said, “Congrats.” Finn looked a bit downcast “Don’t congratulate me yet. I’m not sure I can actually win her over.”
Jason frowned in frustration. “Seriously? What kind of girl is blind enough to turn you down?”
Finn just gave a small smile. “She’s not like other girls.”
Jason rolled his eyes, clearly done with the conversation.
Meanwhile, Naomi stood there, completely lost in thought, her mind reeling from Finn’s words
It didn’t seem like he was talking about her at all.
Naomi thought to herself. But how is that possible? There aren’t any other girls around Finn, are there?”
With the proposal a success, everyone started letting the balloons go, sending them drifting up into the sky.
Bright balloons covered the ground, then slowly floated upward, soaring higher and higher unul they looked just like tiny stars, dotting the night sky.

The beautiful sight had everyone turning their heads to watch.
But Naomi wasn’t really in the mood for romance anymore. She glanced over and caught sight of Finn standing close by.
She quietly edged her way over, trying not to draw any attention.
Pretending it was just an accident, she let her hand brush against his arm.

Finn felt someone brush past him and turned quickly. When he saw it was Naomi, he instinctively stepped a little farther away.
Keeping his voice low, Finn said quietly, “Naomi, you just bumped into me. If Charles saw that, he’d totally get jealous.”
Naomi turned to Finn, momentarily stunned, only just realizing what had happened before she finally said, “Oh, sorry.”
His voice was much calmer now, though Naomi could still sense a hint of unease beneath it
She was just about to step forward when Charles turned to her and said. ‘Naomi, go on inside for now. I need to talk to Andrew, just the
Two of us.”
With a reluctant sigh. Naomi gave in. “Alright”
Once Naomi was gone, Charles climbed back into the car and called out to Andrew, Get in.”

couldn’t get away fast enough.
Charles stepped on the gas, and the car pulled away from the entrance of Joyacre Villa.
They pulled over in a deserted stretch, and Charles rolled down the window, shook a cigarette out of his pack, and lit up.
Letting the smoke drift out, he finally turned to Andrew, his voice a little heavy. “What’s going on with Troy?”

Andrew turned to face Charles, swallowing hard, his voice trembling as he said, “Troy… he… he made Stella lose her right hand. It’s… gone because of him.”
Charles took a deep drag on his cigarette, his expression growing complicated in the haze. He arched an eyebrow lightly and asked, “And then?”
Andrew’s face was dripping with sweat, his voice trembling with desperation. “Charles, please, you have to help me. Stella spilled everything to Troy–he’s not gonna let me get away with it.”
Charles flicked his cigarette away with a sudden snap, turning on Andrew with stormy eyes swirling with anger. His voice cut through the tension, sharp and biting: “Why didn’t you think about the consequences before you went and did something so reckless?”
