Andrew’s heart plummeted at Charles’s scolding. In a panic, he blurted out, “Charles, I had no idea! How was I supposed to know Troy would treat that woman Teresa like she’s worth more than his own life?”

Charles’s expression stayed cool as he asked, “Even outsiders think she’s that important–so what about you? She’s been your sister–in- law for five years, hasn’t she? How could you go so far as to get someone to beat her up?”

Andrew stood there like he’d turned to stone, staring at Charles in utter disbelief.

After a long moment, Andrew let out a cold laugh. “Oh, come on–who do you think taught me? When have you ever given a damn about her? If you’d cared about her even once, Jason and I wouldn’t have ever treated her like this. Honestly, if anyone’s to blame, you’re the real problem here.”

Andrew’s words stabbed into Charles like needles, each one sharp and merciless.

After a long pause, Charles finally said, “At least I never laid a hand on her.”

Andrew laughed louder, practically sneering. “Oh, you think that makes you some sort of saint? Your coldness and neglect were the real knives. You’re the one who slowly killed the Teresa who used to laugh, who used to mess around, who always wanted to be with us as a family.”

Charles felt a surge of anger. He turned to glare at Andrew and growled, “Get out of the car. Go back to school.”

At this moment, Andrew wasn’t scared of Charles at all. He shot back, “Teresa falling for you was the dumbest thing she’s ever done.”

With that, Andrew got out of the car.

Before leaving, he angrily slammed the door shut, making the whole car shake with the impact.

The bang made Charles flinch inside, an involuntary shiver running down his spine.

Even though he wasn’t exactly thrilled with Andrew right now, Charles still called Liam.

When Liam answered, Charles got straight to the point: “Make sure someone keeps a close watch on Andrew and Troy at all times. If Troy tries anything, I want to know immediately. Don’t let him lay a finger on Andrew.”

“Got it, Mr. Logan,” Liam replied.

After hanging up, Charles drove back to Joyacre Villa.

That night, after Charles drifted off to sleep, he found himself dreaming about Teresasomething that caught him completely off guard.

All these years of being married, and yet this was the first time she’d ever entered his dreams.

In the dream, Teresa was always smiling at him, her warmth endless, and every message she sent seemed to brim with love

“Charles, do you think this color suits me?”

“Charles, do you think this hair tie looks nice?”

“Charles, I saw the neighbor’s cat when I was downstairs today. It was so cute–and it reached its little paw out to me!”

“Charles, I’ve got the bathwater ready. You can go take a shower now.”

“Charles, do you want porridge or noodles for breakfast tomorrow?”

Charles, are you coming home for dinner tought?”

“Charles, can you spend more time with me? But if you’re busy… never mind, it’s okay”

“Charles, the baby kicked me today. It’s like he hasn’t heard your voice in months.”

“Charles, I think I’m going into labor. Can you come home? I want you to be the first one to hold our baby after he’s born?

“Charles. I can’t do this alone anymore. Can you come back and help take care of Yolande

But in his dream, it wasn’t only the way Teresa kept calling his name and sending him messages–he remembered so many other moments with her, each scene full of the gentle care she’d shown him.

The room was shrouded in darkness. Charles kept staring into the emptiness, the weight pressing down on his chest refusing to go away.

After just two rings, she picked up.

It was already Iwo in the morning, but even at this hour, she answered so quickly.

Charles didn’t think much of it. He just lowered his voice and softly asked, “Are you asleep?”

Teresa’s voice came through, icy and detached. “Is there something you want?

She was nothing like before—back then, she’d poured her heart in every little thing for him. Now, she was a stranger

Charles cleared his throat softly before speaking again. “When are you coming back? Let’s have dinner together.”

Teresa didn’t even hesitate before refusing. “No, thanks.”

Hearing that, Charles quickly cut in, “Yolanda’s been asking for you–she wants you to go see the snow with her, says she really wants to play outside.”

Teresa didn’t get what he was trying to pull, but her reply was just as distant. “I’ve got exams coming up. I don’t have time to take her out.”

With that, Teresa was ready to hang up.

But before she could hang up, Wendy was jolted awake by another nightmare.

She frowned, crying out, “No–don’t!”

Seeing this, Teresa forgot about the call and rushed to Wendy’s side. “Wendy, are you okay?”

On the other end, when Charles realized Teresa was with Wendy, he finally felt at ease.

But even then, he was reluctant to end the call, lingering as if hoping for just a moment more of her presence.

Hearing Teresa’s voice made that hollow feeling inside him fade away bit by bit.

Holding the phone close, Charles couldn’t help himself he suddenly murmured, “Teresa, I… I miss you.”
