Chapter 67

Charles frowned slightly when he saw Teresa had chosen the back seat.

“Is she treating me like her chauffeur?‘ Charles thought.

But it was getting late, and he didn’t want to argue, so he just drove towards Logan Manor.

Teresa sat in the back seat, holding the gift box, her gaze drifting to the slowly receding scenery outside the window. She didn’t ask Charles what kind of gift he had brought, nor did she wonder why Yolanda wasn’t in the car.

She used to do everything for the family, but no one really appreciated her efforts. So now, she decided to put herself first.

The whole ride was silent. Neither Teresa nor Charles said a word to each other.

Halfway through the drive, Richard called. “Teresa, did Charles pick you up?” Richard asked.

“Yes, Richard,” Teresa replied.

“Good, then don’t rush. Just come back at your own pace,” Richard said.

“Okay, Richard,” Teresa said softly, lowering her head.

After hanging up, Teresa glanced at the time–it was already seven o’clock. By his usual routine, Richard would be heading to bed in just over an hour. But since he was waiting for her, he hadn’t started dinner yet.

Teresa felt grateful but also anxious about having to cook for Richard as soon as she got back. If she had to cook once she got to the manor, dinner would only be delayed even further. But luckily, she only planned to make one dish.

As for the gift, she’d asked Wendy to help her pick it out–a pair of really soft flat shoes. It wasn’t anything fancy, but Teresa had put a lot of thought into it.

By the time they got home, it was already half past seven. As Teresa and Charles stepped through the manor’s entrance, they could hear Roselyn’s resentful voice drifting out from the living room.

“Honestly, Teresa is getting way out of hand. Does she even realize what day it is? Not only did she not bother coming home early to help with dinner, but she had the nerve to show up late and keep the whole family waiting.

“She clearly doesn’t respect us at all,Roselyn grumbled.

As Roselyn finished, Teresa and Charles entered the living room together. Besides Roselyn and Zack, Charles’s sister Serena had already arrived, but his younger brother Andrew still wasn’t home yet.

Teresa thought, I’m not the only one who isn’t here yet, but Roselyn just loves singling me out. Isn’t she just doing this on purpose?

When Roselyn saw Teresa and Charles walk in together, she shot Teresa a look so fierce it was like she wanted to bite her head off.

But Teresa ignored her and focused her gaze on Richard. As she slowly approached, Teresa gave Richard a gentle smile and said, “Happy birthday, Richard. I’m sorry I’m late. I kept you waiting.”

With a warm smile, Richard greeted Teresa. “Teresa, you’re finally here! Come, sit next to me.

Richard had never liked Roselyn, and when she started badmouthing Teresa, he didn’t even acknowledge her. Now that Teresa was back, Richard was thrilled, while Roselyn couldn’t hide her annoyance, rolling her eyes.

Richard practically insisted Teresa sit by his side. He looked her over carefully and said with a touch of concern in his voice, “Have you been eating well lately? You look like you’ve lost weight.”

“No, Richard, you must be imagining things. I’ve been eating plenty, really, Teresa replied, knowing that Richard truly cared about her. Richard didn’t argue with her. Instead, he just said, “Well, make sure you eat plenty later I had Susan make all your favorite dishes. Teresa’s eyes reddened slightly as she nodded. “Okay, Richard”

Then, Richard turned his attention to Roselyn, who was clearly annoyed, and snapped, Where’s Andrew? Why unt he back yet?

Roselyn was just the daughter–in–law, and even Zack wouldn’t dare talk back to Richard. When he spoke, everyone listened.

She then remembered something and grabbed the gift box she had brought. “Richard, I got you a pair of soft–soled shoes. You can wear them when you go for walks or fishing. I hope you like them.”

Richard took the box, his eyes crinkling into a smile. “Teresa, you always pick the best gifts. I really like them.”

Teresa glanced over and saw the expensive gifts on the table. They were priceless treasures, all collected for the occasion.

Her own gift, however, was the simplest. Richard kept saying he liked it, but Teresa knew deep down it was because he cared about her and didn’t want her to feel bad.

Charles had been sitting off to the side on the sofa ever since they arrived at Logan Manor, his head down, tapping away on his phone. Teresa couldn’t tell if he was actually working or just messaging Naomi.

She had noticed him, but it was obvious he couldn’t care less about the gift she’d picked out for Richard.

As for Serena, she didn’t dislike Teresa the way Roselyn did, but she wasn’t exactly a fan either. Still, she was at least polite. Aside from greeting Teresa with a quick “Hey, Teresawhen she first came in, Serena hadn’t spoken to her at all.

Roselyn had three children in total. Charles was the eldest, while Andrew and Serena were boy–girl twinsSerena was born first, making her the older sister.

Both Serena and Andrew were only twentytwo and still in college. Serena was studying medicine, while Andrew was majoring i finance. But when it came to their studies, Serena was diligent and hardworking, while Andrew was just coasting by,

Even though they were twins, their personalities couldn’t have been more different.

Once Teresa walked into the kitchen, the maids greeted her respectfully, lowering their voices as they called out, Mrs. Logan.”

She replied softly, then rolled up her sleeves and started making the pie for Richard.

Halfway through cooking, Andrew finally showed up. He had dyed hair and small tattoos on his arms. Unlike Charles’s calm demeanor, Andrew was full of youthful energy, with a touch of rebellion

As soon as he walked into the living room, he called out to everyone, “Hey, Grandpa, Dad, Mam, Charles, Serena,

After greeting everyone, he glanced around and, not spotting Teresa anywhere, flopped down next to Charles, threw his legs up on the cuffer table, and leaned his head back against the sofa.

Andrew looked totally relaxed and grinned. Great, Teresa’s in the kitchen again. Looks like I’m in for a treat tonight

Serena gave Andrew’s leg a quick kick “Put your feet down and qui acting so entitled. Terest isn’t the mad at Logan Manor
