The Man That Owns It
His brows formed deep lines of surprise.

So, I clarified. “This morning, he’d left me a note asking to meet me in his cabin. V–Machai found the note and went to him.
He was pretty angry when he did. Then, this evening, I hear from Kurtis‘ friends that he’s checked out, but I don’t think that’s
true. I think Machai might have hurt him. Or do you have any idea if he truly checked out?”
Igor regarded me with a stunned expression. He lowered his gaze and something akin to pain reflected in his eyes.
“Mr. Stanislav?”
“Rali,” he sighed. “Why don’t you sit this one out, honey? Go to your cabin. Get some rest.”
What? My brows etched deep grooves. It took me a solid five seconds to piece it together. And once I did, it slapped the breath out of me.
“You’re aware of it.” I muttered, my eyes dancing across the floor in disbelief. “You know he’s dead.”
The man glanced around. He gently grabbed my hand and led me away to a more quiet corner of the bar.
I was so shocked I could’ve auditioned for a statue with my frozen expression.
“Rali, listen,” his voice lowered. “I need you to understand that I’m completely against what happened, but I didn’t really have a choice.”
“What choice? Did he threaten you?”
“No! N–Not exactly.”
“Then, what’re you talking about, Mr. Stanislav!? How can you let something of this nature happen on your boat!? Someone
was killed! Because I’m pretty sure Kurtis is dead.”
Igor ran his palm over his face, seeming conflicted.
“Igor,” yeah, I was done being formal now. “I cannot stand back and watch this happen. You need to do something–now.”
Igor’s voice cracked with helplessness. “Well, what can I possibly do, Rali? What can I possibly to the man who owns the
boat?”
There was an explosion in my mind.
Igor’s words took me longer than necessary to process, and when they did sink in, it felt as if a sledgehammer had landed right on my chest.
Wait…
“What’re you talking about?” I gave my head a shake. This had to be some ridiculous joke.
“Ze Voyage isn’t mine, Rali.” He spread his arms wide, gesturing at the grandeur around us. “I am simply the front man, the man lucky enough to be chosen by him to run the business. People know my name, but the truth is, Ze Voyage has never been mine.”
Oh, God. The revelation squeezed the breath from my lungs.
Igor Stanislav was never the owner of Ze Voyage. Void, The Torturer was.
My thoughts spiralled.

Zerali.
No. It couldn’t be. It wasn’t possible.
“So, I’m sorry, Rali,” Igor said, eyes soft but resigned “but there are a lot of things I can’t reveal because I’m not really the one
in charge. I can’t go against my boss can I?“.
I looked up at him, my eyes beginning to water. “Why? Because he pays you?”
